Gotta verify that purchase. That’s why I watch reviews. Sometimes I watch reviews of games I know I’ll never get but still find them entertaining too. 🤷♂️
I think "a step in the right direction" is absolutely the best way to describe this game. Not amazing, not awful, lots of promising progress that just needs another go and a bigger budget.
I'm having more fun with this game. Then I have any other game within the last couple years. Lol. Maybe sense the day of pokemon arceus legends release. Lol.
It’s been 30 years and they’ve yet to make a good Sonic game. How many steps can you take, regardless of if they’re good or bad, before you realize the path is just.. shit?
To hear they actually got the speed and control down in the game is good news. For some reason newer Sonic games forget to nail those fundamentals, which blows my mind because that used to define the feel of the old games.

These Before You Buy videos are one of the modern things I'm thankful for. Getting on YT and seeing if a game's worth buying... that didn't exist when I was a kid. Even if the conclusion often is "yeah, nah, this isn't for me", I'm still grateful others are putting in the not inconsiderate amount of work required to find that out. Thank you.
I wholeheartedly agree. Even watching gameplay videos can be misleading, it can look super fun until you actually play it yourself and realize the game is bad. These videos really tell it how it is in black and white and after seeing them it gives a much more realistic expectation of what you're buying.
They could have mitigated the “random floating structures” problem by making the level design materialize after you activate a switch. The game’s theme around digitization would have made it really easy.
If they ever make a Sonic Frontiers 2/open zone style sonic game, I'm all for it. The skeleton for this new generation of sonic gameplay is pretty solid. Include momentum based physics, adding bigger more denser biomes, a bigger skill tree and increasing the difficulty of the game can easily put Sonic back on the map. And please have Ian Flynn be the writer from here on out.
I want better gravity physics and like. Sometimes, while at max boost with speed force lighting, sometimes sonic decides that random subtle incline is a boost ramp and fucking sends you across the map.
The 3D action gameplay where you can freely move around as sonic is one of the best reasons why sonic frontiers is my favourite gameplay, the music is awesome, the skills are epic, they look amazing, best part is where you get to play as other characters further through the game.
I feel like they could’ve done a game focused in a city, which would justify the abundance of rails (although apparently there is an in-game explanation for the rails on each island), but it is a great concept that could definitely be expanded upon
Seriously. When I hear open world sonic I think of a GTA V sized map - but the city I picture is Robotropolis. Would be amazing to be running through the green hills (pun intended) and then crest up to see a polluted city in the distance, then run down and into the city, doing the RB/LB dodges around the rubble of the destroyed road.
The reason this game appeals to me is that I like the way Sonic seems to control. I liked the movement of the Adventure series more than the almonst-on-rails Boost series and this game is looking like a combination of both in a good way.
If you like sonic adventure and know the lore this game is amazing. There's tons of references to the adventure series. Sonic has voice lines referencing mystic ruins and Tikal. Stuff like that
Honestly being a Sonic fan, it gets my attention because of the sheer effort alone. Sega truly tried to make a Mario Odyssey esque game with Sonic and I can appreciate that. Throw in a Player Creation map mode that players can share online and this game's lifespan just increased a good 1-2 years, not including DLC.
It's what got my attention as someone who kind of gave up on Sonic. Like they really tried, it's why I'm getting the game. Still not jumping for it and have other games on my radar so might be a while. But I bet I enjoy it and maybe by then they fixed some flaws with patches.
This is what I hate about modern "gamers": You judge games not based on whether they're fun or not, but based on how much "effort" you *percieve* it to have behind its making. That's like someone judging the quality of a program based on how many lines of code it took to write. I've seen people ACTUALLY considering 2D games to not be "real games" just because they think it takes less effort to make them. Because of people like you and your feedback, games are becoming WORSE.
After completing the game, I can say I absolutely loved it. It was just very fun. All the things I got to do and the type of world I was in just made me feel like sonic. In my eyes, that made whatever fault it had feel insignificant. Sonic is just a beast who is able to break physics completely in this game, and I think that is a good thing in this case. His homing attack goes against gravity now. I personally did enjoy the combat because of the variety of moves I could pull off against the mini-bosses. I didn't feel like it was tedious because, like botw, It was really up to me to decide how much of it did I want to do. I didn't need to fight all the bosses or clear all the stages if I didn't feel like it. Above all, sonic handles like a dream in the overworld. Others have complained that he handles poorly in the cyber stages, though that wasn't my personal impression of it. Overall, it made me feel like sonic, which is an amazing feet. I think this is a great new direction for sonic to go into. They just need to refine it more. Hopefully they dont abandon it, like they did with other styles in the past.
I really see the potential this game has in terms of its impact on future 3d sonic games. I truly believe this is a step in the right direction and I'm excited to see what Sega does with this formula. This review has made me a tad bit disappointed in quite a few things though as I thought this game was really gonna be really really good, but it's just good enough essentially. I'm still gonna play it as a Sonic fan and I'm sure I'll like it.
And thankfully for the first time since the Dreamcast games, where not perfect but still solid and honestly are better time burners now than most of their contemporary mascot 3d games; we finally have a 3d sonic that is not perfect, but solid and shows promise for the future.
I'm always torn on 2. It's fantastic, but I hate the forced team play. If it had adventure fields, and each character was unique like in SA1 it would be unsurpassable. I always go back between 1 & 2 as my favorite 3D sonic.
I do appreciate the transparency in not knowing whether or not you'd be able to explain the game and your thoughts in as much of an unbiased manner as you could. Great video!
My impression so far is they made a new engine that could work for adventure 3. But weren't confident enough in it, so they made this instead. That way they could test how things worked, how to structure levels, and also make some money from it
That is NOT how game development works. They don't drop millions of dollars and years of development time and passion from at least dozens to hundreds of people into a project just to 'test some stuff out'. What a ridiculous comment.
@@cenciende9401 that's not what i was implying. I was thinking, maybe they loved the engine so much that before working on adventure 3, they made this game to get a good feel on how the new engine works, see what it can and can't do as well as get audience feedback to see what they should and shouldn't do next game. And overall most reviewer do like how the gameplays, but still think the rest of the game itself needs more work.
Can you guys shut up about Adventure 3. They basically already made it with 06. Seems like you care more about the name of the game than if it’s actually good
Frontiers is amazing. Best 3D Sonic game in more than a DECADE. The level design, platforming in the open zone, the sense of speed and incredible combat to top it off!
I've been a Sonic fan since Sonic 2, but I've felt more and more alienated from the series since Sonic Heroes, and my faith in Sonic Team couldn't get much lower. However, Sonic Mania drew me back in, and the IDW comics are absolutely fantastic. When I heard that Ian Flynn, one of the head writers of the IDW Sonic comics, was writing the story for Frontiers, that gave me hope for the game. I'm glad to hear generally positive reviews for the game, and I can't wait to get my hands on it. It's a pretty good time to be a Sonic fan right now, and I hope it stays that way from now on. Hopefully, they'll address the criticisms, and the next game will be a more polished experience.
The last sonic game I played was mania I never played the adventure games idk modern sonic never really clicked with me idk why low key this feels like a tech demo
But is it sonic team? They weren't involved with colors remake, and look at it. And on top of that, they asked for a delay for some reason with this game. It's Sega, they're the reason 06 failed, the reason the wii exclusive games were given priority over the aniversey game, and the reason ever game since 06 has had a massive list of problems. Because Sega doesn't care, they're not the one's being blamed. They've been treating us the same way ea does, but because they don't ask for money in form of micro transactions, nobody seems to notice or care. Just blame the group we know are constantly rushed and forced to work on multiple projects at once, it's fine, it's not like management could just hire more staff and better manage time to make good games like Nintendo does, you know, the people they lost to. Sonic team isn't the problem, and this game and colors ultimate are proof of such, Sega needs to shut the fuck up and do their hardest, otherwise Sega deserves to finally go out of business, sad as it is.
Honestly aside from the pop-in I can see this as being pretty damn fun. I can tell this is the case of a company ACTUALLY LEARNING from their mistakes and trying to course correct. Reminds me of how I felt about Pokemon Legends Arceus, a good foundation for the future.
In the little I played I was WAY too pre-occupied with controlling sonic to notice or care about a rail popping in. My experience is very limited with this title thus far, but, still it bears note.
@@Princeofunderworld32 to be fair it's probably the only way (switch in mind) to handle sonics speed coupled with an open world without lots of loading
The random way they just stick assets like rails in random places with absolutely no context or meaning, makes it feel like a custom Tony Hawk Pro Skater level that an 8 year old made one day after school 😅
As a Sonic-fan, it kinda worried me to think that Sonic Frontires was released A DAY BEFORE GoW: Ragnorok. But, the game came out strong and succeeded very well; it didn't get overshadowed by the big AAA. I'm too proud of Sonic Team.
That pop in looks pretty inexcusable. Draw distance should be a priority in open world games. Especially one where you move so fast. Normally they use lower quality LOD meshes for diatant stuff, but all of the "game elements" are already just boxes. So I understand that that would't work too well, but there has to be something they could have done. Use mountains for occlusion zones instead of just having big empty spaces? Not useing a hyper real art style? Even the digitize effect idea would have been fine. I hope it's better on pc or at least has a work around.
I completely and totally agree. I hate the fact it's realistic when it could have been literally the same but with Sonic's traditional checkered landscape textures. It just looks like a fan game in Unreal Engine 5. And omigosh the draw distance 😑. You said it perfectly: it's inexcusable. It's just plain terrible. How tf is someone supposed to go from the new Ratchet and Clank on the PS5 to this? Being a "Sonic" game does not excuse it. This game straight up looks like shit. And it doesn't feel good to say that. Dammit.
What might explain (but definitely not excuse) the issue is the graphics and lighting engine being in-house: the Hedgehog Engine 2, which was cobbled up for Forces. Something tells me the engine is not able to render all the elements, which is jarring and not what you want in a game like this.
@@robwaters8848 I know I am only pointing out one part of your reply, I'm making that clear, but what does realism in environment in a Sonic game over the more cartoonish landscape of some venues in the series detract from it? I believe the checkered ground from the many Hill Zones don't fit the narrative of mystery the game is pushing. In addition, realistic environments are nothing new to this franchise, seeing as '06 to Black Knight have somewhat realistic locals. But I will agree it's definitely not what would be expected of a Sonic game, but this is the next step to a new era. Maybe the checkered dirt will return in the next installment, or not, knowing the overuse of Green Hill.
I haven't played a Sonic game since Sonic Adventure 1&2 on the Sega Dreamcast. It'd be nice if they blended something like this with a soft reboot of that series. I think it would do well and possibly get the series back on track. Then again, I grew up playing Sonic games on the Genesis and have a little bias towards the series. Definitely will pick this up on a sale, should be a good game for my Steam Deck
I wish he would have said something about the character interactions in this story, there were some generally great cutscenes between Sonic and friends, they felt like actual characters and not just Sonics cheerleaders as usual.
I've played a lot of Sonic games (he was even in a 3D fight game on the Sega Saturn) and I'm very glad to see them tackle the formula for this. I'm looking forward to it and to what they can do with it in the future. Finger's crossed that this leads to an epic Nights game!
If by 3D fighting game you're referring to Sonic the Fighters that wasn't on the Saturn, it was an arcade game. It was during that time period and other arcade fighting games by Sega got ported to the Saturn so it's easy to get them mixed.
Nights didn’t sell that well on the Saturn outside of Japan. And Journey Into Dreams did even Worse on Wii. UNG and MonKing Games are going to ask SEGA to remaster both for the Avalon console launching Next Year and hopefully a FULL fledged FULL 4K sequel for the SEGA RAZOR in 2024!
I gotta say this is a fair Review. I beat it at my own pace, 35 hours in and only missing 2 trophies I don't really care for. My short review is I give it a 8/10. Its a very very solid and proper game. Things I agree with >> It's a open world platformer but with Sonic which makes it soo much more fun! 👍🏾 I totally felt that too. >>it's FAST as hell. imo they did very well with capturing the speed aspect. >> and controls feels good too! even at super speeds I felt totally in control and I could do advanced skills at the will of my own ability to try it. > I actually enjoyed the combat system >> > I wouldn't quite say it's lacking polish, but some spots feel like some of the nuts are just hand tight. but as mentioned it's NOT enough to inconvenience you. and it is kind of easy >> I also agree its EASILY one of the *best* , deep, and more pleasant sonic games I've played or seen in a WHILE. And he didn't even mention word of how epic / and literally beautiful the music/score is. I honestly just think we're just spoiled these days. and IMO people/media just dragg out negative things now (probably for views). it's at very *minimum* a pretty good and enjoyable game.🤙🏾🤙🏾
Now this, this is a good review of the game. Great. Other reviews were not bad, but this one understands the fundamentals of this game in comparison to previous titles INSTEAD of previous Triple A games.
That's a hard line to walk for a reviewer. How it compares to other games is what most people want, but how it compares to Sonic games is what sonic fans want. Somehow this guy did both, and very eloquently.
Literally waited to hear falcons take, as a big sonic fan myself - pretty sure we’re about the same age. I knew that it wasn’t going to be perfect by any means, but to hear him say that they finally (mostly) nailed it, and are going in the right direction is enough for me.
@@takoshihitsamaru4675 It definitely sounds like he is, although he’s the first person to say that he’s biased. I’m sure that there’s plenty of problems with the controls, but I also think this is probably the best sonic game they’ve done since adventures. That’s said, I will def wait for a major sale, not worth 70$
This seems like the most level-headed review I've seen today. I've seen a lot of polarizing opinions, but this seemed to encompass the best of both sides. FWIW I did play the Switch version early on Yuzu and after REFUSING to buy forces (only mainline sonic I didn't buy, EVER) I would have to say I was very surprised that I felt the need to pre-order this one. Considering how janky Yuzu's running it is right now, I think that's a testament to the FRESHNESS of what is here.
I'll give it a shot after watching this. When you mentioned momentum the '94 Speed, or '06 Crank came to mind. Sonic has to keep moving at a certain speed, and the slower he gets the drowning theme starts getting louder. Something tells me the majority of players won't like that intense feeling of pressure, especially when it's constant.
This actually looks quite good. I dont usually like the Sonic games due to being level based and too quick, but this style suits me more, similar to Mario Odyssey and Spyro which I like
Even with the mixed reviews, this has been one of the better received games as of late for the franchise. I'm hoping that they can take this and improve on it.
Sonic will always be one of my favourite video game character and I can’t ever dislike Sonic games especially when real effort is actually put into a game. Will be getting this for sure.
My mistake was approaching it like a typical open world game but with Sonic's speed. The 'Breath of the Wild' part of my brain took over without me realising. Once I thought, "duh, it's a Sonic game, go fast" I realised that I could actually get some really good movement flow going and it became a lot more fun. Think of it as an open world game that you're _supposed_ to speedrun, with slower sections and collectables acting as breaks, and it becomes pretty damn good.
I can feel the Falcons pain on this one! I was glad it was you whom reviewed it brotha! I bought the game with the steelbook from best buy because of you! I'm glad it isn't perfect lol...but, it's the first sonic game I've purchased in my life and that speaks volumes! Thanks for still getting me stoked for this game and I can't wait to play it! I played sonic all the way back on the genesis and now get to play a new sonic game with my newborn baby boy!
ngl if they took the money from all the sonic movies and took a good amount of time to finish this game it could’ve been one of the better sonic games, this game gets me excited for the future they were on the right track but the graphics and the stuff poping up randomly on the map just shows it wasn’t ready to be released, so close tho.
From everything I've seen, and I'm still waiting on the pre-order to arrive. But I feel this is a good step for the franchise, and it deserves further development! But 1st I would hope they could iron out some of the bugs from Frontiers. Like the pop-in, which I agree with your idea on how to address it, to better fit with the games Cyberspace theme. But if any future DLC becomes a thing, other than outfits. I think maybe they can add another island, perhaps a snowy one, given I've heard the number of different biomes are limited. At the end of the day, it's a Sonic game, it's gonna have a couple of issues. But what's here is impressive, surely better than how Forces turned out, and I'm really looking forward to it!
They finally found a formula that works for a 3d Sonic game. They just need to execute it better and not rush it out... I am really looking forward to the next one.
If this game had a Chao Garden I would 100% buy it. I will never understand why the Chao Garden was discontinued. Sonic Adventure 2 Battle was one of my favorite games of all time, but I haven't touched a Sonic game since then due to no Chao Garden in later entries.
I love watching videos like this after I've already bought and completed the game. I like being able to compare ans contrast other people's opinions and thoughts against my own experience with a game. Just finished this one a few moments ago (and enjoyed every bit of it). *Definitely worth* the 60 bucks I spent on it. $60/$60 game in my opinion. Game was absolutely amazing to me. They did such a good job with it. Makes me *super interested* in the next game, of which I'd love to see it be Sonic Adventure 3. With this formula they can do some really good stuff with the franchise. Really like and appreciate the story. Seems like the writers are setting up a solid foundation to link all previous games and formulate a solid story from here on out. Which I'm completely down for. As of now, this would be my second-favorite 3D Sonic game. 1) Sonic Adventure 2 2) Sonic Frontiers 3) Sonic Generations 4) Sonic Adventure
Sonic Frontiers is the best Sonic game in the entire franchise! This game in it of itself is a masterpiece regardless of Sonic games! The open world is so fun to explore and you can run freely and platform at full speed and fight enemies, bosses and Titans, it's so fun! You can also combat and fight a lot of unique enemies and bosses, and unlock a lot of new combat moves and skills, at the skill tree! You can also upgrade Sonic, you can upgrade his strength, speed, ring capacity and defense! The story is the best out of the whole franchise, and the voice acting is very good, Roger Craig Smith did an amazing job as the voice of Sonic! The music in this game is incredible and it's the best music in the entire franchise! The Super Sonic fights against the Titans were amazing and some of the best fights in a video game! 10/10
"You can also upgrade Sonic, you can upgrade his strength, speed, ring capacity and defense!" Sounds a little RPG-ish like Sonic & The Secret Rings...AND I LOVED THAT GAME-BUT I HOPE THE LEARNING CURVE WITH CONTROLS IS LESS TEDIOUS.
Alright! Now this is the video I was looking forward too. *You guys always give an honorable view point on the before you buy videos.* Still looking forward to playing the game though, cause I feel like my opinion might be a bit different 👍
You're not making any sense, his conclusion is that it's a fantastic 3D Sonic game and good overall game. For your opinion to be different means that you expect to NOT like it, so why the hell would you say you're looking forward to playing it!?
you say that like you can polish a turd and when has sega ever sorted out there sonic games?ever 3d sonic games stuck with their issues until the end of time....
As someone who was pretty bad at video games as a kid this game felt pretty accessible to me in terms of controls - def agree with the critiques here though. I didn't play much sonic before because the gameplay used to feel very slippery(?) to me, but I think the action style gameplay in frontiers made it more manageable. Now that I'm more accustomed to it though I would definitely do a run in high speed style. The music SLAPS though omg.
About to be on the last island. I'd give the game an 8.5 out of 10. Really fun and I'm having a blast! A few issues. I wish the game would explicitly tell me things. Like the Wyvern fight. I had the HARDEST time with that fight until I accidentally discovered that parry can be HELD DOWN. That changed everything. Or the timed free-fall sections. Didn't know I could hold boost to fall faster. I did eventually see the parry thing on a loading screen but it was WAY after the fact. Open world is a lil empty and there isn't much incentive to collect every single memory medal on each island as getting a few hundred from fishing will get you through the entire game. But overall, I'm having a blast with this game and I hope there's a sequel because if they improve upon this we could eventually get a 3D game that rivals Mania!
Absolutely hit the nail on the head with this review! It's Authentic and honest. The "before you buy" line of reviews are by far the most valuable unbiased takes when it comes to game recommendations!
It would be cool if there was some "bullet time" style of play. Giving you a short break from the absurd speed to sorta see things from Sonic's perspective, of which I'd imagine would resemble the world around him in slow motion.
I personally really liked this game and the cyberspace levels were really fun for me but the music was amazing and I was impressed with how well they switched from 3d to 2d in the open world
I personally don’t mind having to play through the same gameplay loop multiple times. I’m a huge fan of NMH 3 and for that game and all it’s flaws I really love the combat and general gameplay, and find myself sinking hours and hours into its missions. I feel like Sonic Frontiers could do that too. As long as it’s fun to play, I’m happy! And as a longtime Sonic fan, I am HYPED TO PLAY THIS GAME!
Controlling Sonic's movement was not janky in Sonic Adventure. The game itself was janky, getting stuck to walls, etc., yeah that's janky and buggy. But just running in open areas, simply running around, Sonic was at his best in 3D in Adventures. It was smooth and perfect.
That pop in raises a lot of flags for me. It was popping in as you were flying from one platform to another and going at speed having to guess where you're supposed land sounds infuriating
If I want a game, I buy it. I'd rather experience it for myself than be influenced by other people's opinions. That being said, I do agree with some of the negatives you mentioned. However, the game is still fun. So I'm glad that I bought it.
Sonic is the video game equivalent of Weezer. A couple classics, a lot of duds, but a surprisingly large fan base that goes along for the ride hoping the next release will be a revival in quality despite the constant disappointments
I wasn't expecting game of the year material but is such a relief to hear is genuinely a good game, thank god, is the first time i have been excited for a 3D sonic game since sonic generations
I already have the game since Saturday. I must say it ain't perfect it doesn't always look the best. But it's fairly enjoyable. It's just a fun simple experience being everyone's favorite blue speedster.
The movement of Sonic seems so overly stiff, even from these updated gameplay clips, I'm still hesitant to purchase, at least at full price, I've only played Generations and Mania so far when it comes to these modern Sonic games
My big drawback so far... it was a missed opportunity to flex the environment details using the controller. Similar to the Astro's Playroom with the vibrations differentiating between the various terrains (grass, metal, mud, and whatnot) and the weather (wind, rain, and so on). Then again it did just come out. Who know what they may fix and/or have planned for the future. I'd like to think it's an expansive game with new missions, story, and characters. Maybe an online aspect allowing fastest times to be posted. Multiplayer could be raid/dungeon format. I am enjoying it though. Learning to let go of forward, and just boost, while on the rails is a thing to learn otherwise changing rails or falling off is a high possibility.
I think the little puzzles around the open world are fun to zip and bounce around on, and the 3d levels do a nice job of bringing back the 3d for just enough to break up the gameplay. They can obvious take this further with a sequel but very solid game coming from a gameplay focused gamer.
I love to watch a "before you buy" after I buy, but before I play.

@@retropulse03 Exactly! You put it so perfectly.
sonic 06 moment
The game literally just Tony Hawk Pro Skater but on Sonic's way 😌
Mirror’s edge
👍🏼
It's what got my attention as someone who kind of gave up on Sonic. Like they really tried, it's why I'm getting the game. Still not jumping for it and have other games on my radar so might be a while. But I bet I enjoy it and maybe by then they fixed some flaws with patches.
A map creator would be brilliant! This would foster such a huge community around this entry!
Look so boring imo
This is what I hate about modern "gamers":
You judge games not based on whether they're fun or not, but based on how much "effort" you *percieve* it to have behind its making.
That's like someone judging the quality of a program based on how many lines of code it took to write.
I've seen people ACTUALLY considering 2D games to not be "real games" just because they think it takes less effort to make them.
Because of people like you and your feedback, games are becoming WORSE.

I Am An Admin For Sonic Frontiers,Thank You For Playing The Game.

My impression so far is they made a new engine that could work for adventure 3. But weren't confident enough in it, so they made this instead. That way they could test how things worked, how to structure levels, and also make some money from it
god I wish there was a Adventure 3. THEY WOULD MAKE SO MUCH MONEY

That is NOT how game development works. They don't drop millions of dollars and years of development time and passion from at least dozens to hundreds of people into a project just to 'test some stuff out'. What a ridiculous comment.
@@cenciende9401 that's not what i was implying.
Our boy Ian snuck in some cheeky jabs at the meta era writing and its the most satisfying thing to watch =)))
The IDW comics suck swollen chimp testicles. Like if you got a bunch of jaded C-tier MCU hipster writers to work on a Sonic project.

Honestly aside from the pop-in I can see this as being pretty damn fun. I can tell this is the case of a company ACTUALLY LEARNING from their mistakes and trying to course correct. Reminds me of how I felt about Pokemon Legends Arceus, a good foundation for the future.
Maybe they will fix the pop in with update/patches
In the little I played I was WAY too pre-occupied with controlling sonic to notice or care about a rail popping in.
My experience is very limited with this title thus far, but, still it bears note.

As a Sonic-fan, it kinda worried me to think that Sonic Frontires was released A DAY BEFORE GoW: Ragnorok. But, the game came out strong and succeeded very well; it didn't get overshadowed by the big AAA. I'm too proud of Sonic Team.
Always the most trustworthy reviews for me!
Dammit.
Yeah the pop in is atrocious.
I mean heck, Adventure 1 and 2 were already going for realistic environment (for the era at least). Sonic just.... somehow fits everywhere.

If by 3D fighting game you're referring to Sonic the Fighters that wasn't on the Saturn, it was an arcade game. It was during that time period and other arcade fighting games by Sega got ported to the Saturn so it's easy to get them mixed.

>>it's FAST as hell. imo they did very well with capturing the speed aspect.
>> and controls feels good too! even at super speeds I felt totally in control and I could do advanced skills at the will of my own ability to try it.
> I actually enjoyed the combat system
>> > I wouldn't quite say it's lacking polish, but some spots feel like some of the nuts are just hand tight. but as mentioned it's NOT enough to inconvenience you.
and it is kind of easy
>> I also agree its EASILY one of the *best* , deep, and more pleasant sonic games I've played or seen in a WHILE.
I just came from Ralph's review and honestly, I think Falcon is being hugely forgiving of some fundamentally bad design decisions and mechanics.
@@takoshihitsamaru4675 It definitely sounds like he is, although he’s the first person to say that he’s biased. When you mentioned momentum the '94 Speed, or '06 Crank came to mind. Sonic has to keep moving at a certain speed, and the slower he gets the drowning theme starts getting louder. Something tells me the majority of players won't like that intense feeling of pressure, especially when it's constant.

Even with the mixed reviews, this has been one of the better received games as of late for the franchise. I'm hoping that they can take this and improve on it.
This channel is one of the VERY FEW that I trust with reviews. There are a lot of reviews saying this game is trash.
It's trash but by sonic game standards it's good
Sonic will always be one of my favourite video game character and I can’t ever dislike Sonic games especially when real effort is actually put into a game.
Think of it as an open world game that you're _supposed_ to speedrun, with slower sections and collectables acting as breaks, and it becomes pretty damn good.

ngl if they took the money from all the sonic movies and took a good amount of time to finish this game it could’ve been one of the better sonic games, this game gets me excited for the future they were on the right track but the graphics and the stuff poping up randomly on the map just shows it wasn’t ready to be released, so close tho.

Controlling Sonic's movement was not janky in Sonic Adventure. The game itself was janky, getting stuck to walls, etc., yeah that's janky and buggy. But just running in open areas, simply running around, Sonic was at his best in 3D in Adventures. It was smooth and perfect.

If I want a game, I buy it. I'd rather experience it for myself than be influenced by other people's opinions. That being said, I do agree with some of the negatives you mentioned. However, the game is still fun. So I'm glad that I bought it.
I like how sonic controls for the most part. Stopping on a dime works great for me
Sonic is the video game equivalent of Weezer. A couple classics, a lot of duds, but a surprisingly large fan base that goes along for the ride hoping the next release will be a revival in quality despite the constant disappointments
Like Weezer as in… “only any good during the early 90s”? 😂
The good games definitely outnumber the bad, it's just people always focus on the bad.
@@AYTM1200 so basically weezer
Best review I’ve heard, sounded real and honest
I wasn't expecting game of the year material but is such a relief to hear is genuinely a good game, thank god, is the first time i have been excited for a 3D sonic game since sonic generations
It ain’t game of the year material
@@shrigga9636 He said he wasn't expecting it to be game of the year material not that it IS game of the year material.
@@nyarlahaiyore yeah I just clocked that my bad
8:13 what is that weird outline effect around sonic and the fishing pole
Is going in right direction.
It Could become what 06 failed to capture. FRONTIER Should let you play as Shadow and Silver Aswell
Probably afraid of "knee-jerk" reaction: "Oh no, not another Sonic 06!"
Looks pretty good to me. Gonna have to grab this one
Open world makes perfect sense for Sonic considering how insanely fast he is, pretty surprised it took this damn long to put him in a big open world.
Just be happy they finally did it
I already have the game since Saturday. I must say it ain't perfect it doesn't always look the best. But it's fairly enjoyable. It's just a fun simple experience being everyone's favorite blue speedster.
that’s honestly a great thing to hear… i wish the color palette was more interesting, but if it’s fun and enjoyable i might eventually check this out
Thank you for not exaggerating
