man I love your channel, you have pulled me out of a pinch with my rig so many times by checking in on your videos. I'm currently running into issues on my TCM not getting power so next step is I'm going to wire direct 12v to it so I can determine if the TCM is faulted or wiring to it is. Truck was running great this week then just crapped out randomly and went into limp mode so either a wire got knocked loose going to the TCM, relay crapped out, or TCM randomly died. Lets hope its a cheaper of the bunch and just a bad wire lol. Cheers brother!
Thank you for the kind words. Fingers crossed it’s a bad wire.🤞 I just had a similar issue with my back up light. Hoping it’s a bad wire or ground and I don’t have to open up the shifter.
@@MyHumveeMathilda If it ends up being TCM or I can't solve the mystery, I'm planning on getting the new stand alone TCM from BlackdogCustoms so I can just do away with the whole current setup. Ive been wanting to make a trip down that way anyway to see their facility but cost wise the wife is going to really put a hurting on me bc I am in the middle of some expensive remodels at my shop to now throw in more humvee expenses, oops. Again though seriously this is always my favorite go-to humvee channel on YT. Cheers brother!
I just found your RUclips channel. I really like your style and the information as well as how you explain things. In this video I love the look your cat gave you ha ha.
Love your content and how you don’t filter the things you say for example you said you want to add a lot of shit instead of some of these RUclipsrs filtering and saying yeah guys I want to add a bunch of stuff or things. Keep up the good work. Im looking to get a hmmwv myself soon. So your channel has helped realize how much more I can do myself instead of paying others to do it
Thanks. I really enjoyed the presentation. I installed a converter (20A) that has been killing me batteries. I also had a kill switch, but i put it on the positive side. Thanks
I am still having issues after installing the new converter. I also placed a kill switch on the negative, yet still getting power to 12v side. I believe it's because I have a few items still grounded to fame with power at the fuse box. Your thoughts.
I don't know if I can continue to watch, the shock and awe I felt after hearing someone swear, I was like my poor fucking ears...lmao, keep up the AMAZING work my friend, you inspire many of us DIY humvee guys to go forth and tackle our wish lists!!!
Man, cool video. I'm LS swapping to a 6.0l and didnt want to have a 3rd battery. This should save a ton of rewiring. Beautiful truck by the way. The paint is really nice
I will soon when I do my console. But it’s fairly simple. Red from fuse positive to switch, to light bar. Black wire from lightbar back to fuse box negative. Use the correct amp fuse in the fuse box based on how many amps the lightbar pulls.
Well two things. It’s not really necessary to have a kill switch for your battery. Having a kill switch for the step down for the 12v makes sense so it’s not running when the truck is off. That might be why your battery is draining. Try using a battery tender. I did a video on charging the humvee in my playlist. Don’t need an expensive trickle charger. Have a look.
I made a cutoff switch from the negative of the battery to the Orion. That’ll cutoff the 12v. No kill switch for the batteries. If your batteries are getting drained you need to invest in a 24v trickle charger. Check out my video on charging your Humvee. ruclips.net/video/O463vhUa37M/видео.htmlsi=hwUdpcChPsqS_J5s
Since your disconnect is running through the negative there is not a certain amperage needed on that toggle correct? I have not installed the step down yet but your video has given me the info i needed to get this done next weekend.
@@rsriddle1982 regular amperage that a 12v battery would handle. If I had to do it again, I would install the Orion higher up in the truck, not in the battery compartment. But you’re free to install it wherever you please. . Good luck with your install.
Thank you so much for a detailed explanation on how to set it up. I have one question though would it effect the fan if i built a little snorkel for it so when forging water cant get in there?
Great video as usual. At this point, you need to introduce your subscribers to the equalizer on your laptop that is always making a guest appearance in your videos.
@romaellodfranco72 Lol. I didn’t even notice it there. (Wink wink) It is my ‘study’ pew. 🔫 my trusty SCCY CPX-2 9mm. One of many I have around the house. (Couch pew, kitchen pew, basement pew, garage pew etc etc… you get the idea) 😆
What happens if I ground a 12v accessory (let’s say license plate led) to the frame and run the power wire to the 12v fuse box? I have the Orion on a switch so it really only gets power when the truck is running and I switch the converter on?
You’ll burn out your 12v accessory. Think of it this way. When you connect any accessory, let’s say a 24V accessory to the 24v battery set and then back to the frame, You’re completing a 24V circuit. That’s 24v positive and back to 24V negative if you run a 12V positive from the Orion to a 12V accessory and then complete the circuit to a 24V negative/frame, think of what that does to the circuit. You’re completing a 24V return. Grounding makes sense if the entire machine is a 12V system. But when you have dual volts systems, remember what the Ghostbusters said, do not cross the streams. 😂 do a little extra work, by running a black wire back to the 12V negative on the fusebox just to be safe.
Not yet, but here’s an idea, run a direct line to one of the batteries for the power. Not through the Orion. Make sure your truck is always on a 24v trickle charger.
Thank you. For the amber lights check out my previous videos for accessories. It is 12v, costs 12 bucks from Amazon and I have already hooked them up to my step down.
That works if the load and draw on the 12v tap is minimal and you have a cutoff switch. Otherwise I’ve heard there’s a risk of improperly balanced output. But I’m no expert on electronics. 🤷🏻♂️🙂

Thanks. I really enjoyed the presentation. I installed a converter (20A) that has been killing me batteries. I also had a kill switch, but i put it on the positive side. Thanks
Oh noes! 😲 … always negative side, it cuts the circuit and no current flows through. Positive side is probably why you have the drain.
I am still having issues after installing the new converter. I also placed a kill switch on the negative, yet still getting power to 12v side. I believe it's because I have a few items still grounded to fame with power at the fuse box. Your thoughts.
Make sure 12v gets grounded back to the fuse box and only 24v stuff gets grounded to frame.

Very interesting. I’ve seen a couple LS swaps in Humvees. There’s a guy who has a channel on RUclips about it. Let me know how it goes.
Very informative. I need this on my Unimog that also runs on 24v. I might be considering getting a Converter of 100amps. Amazon time. 😊

@@MyHumveeMathilda I’ll probably get a 6 fuse box so it can fit under the passenger seat.

Always wondered what would happen to the 12v side during fording …. The fan is so low assuming it would blow.
Good point. I’m hoping the kill switch that I’m putting on the center console, cutting off the 12v at the negative main might protect it.
