  • Installing air conditioning in a Humvee. Installing a 12v Universal A/C kit in a #hmmwv
    #ac #airconditioning #hummer #humvee
    In this video, I am installing a 12volt Universal Air Conditioning system in my Humvee. I feel like the red dot systems are big and bulky and way too expensive ($3000+) and I wanted something that would fit on top of the radio tray. I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting A/C in their military vehicle.
    Also, I took the time an effort to create a proper color coded wiring diagram for the install. you can find it at the 18:17 mark
    The links for the relay and 5 terminal connector are as follows:

    Any Parker hose store will be able to professionally crimp A/C connections to the hoses and offer corresponding coupling ends for the components. Screw type hose clamps Will leak refrigerant under pressure. Best of luck with the project

      @@MyHumveeMathilda ..Chris, I've been following your channel. I have a M-1025A2. I plan to add A/C in the future, and will most likely use the same type of system...Question is, with the supply and return lines routed up through the floor to the radio tray ( condenser) .How do you plan to remove tray / dog house to service the engine without diss connecting it, and loosing your charge? Also what type of grommet did you use to protect lines from sharp edges of the holes drilled for them???

    • @MyHumveeMathilda
      @MyHumveeMathilda  Год назад

      Rubber grommets you get at harbor freight. I haven’t shown it in the video. Small stuff I did after as clean up. And I’ve used riv nuts to fasten the ac to the top shelf of the dash. It’ll unscrew and I’ll be able to move the tray to the side Incase I need to open the doghouse. I won’t be disconnecting the hoses.

    ECC Auto LLC is also a great place to get kits. Actually the kit shown in this video looks like the exact kit I bought from ECC. It comes with everything but the engine bracket, belt and Freon. Vintage air is twice the price and no compressor

    Good afternoon. Great and informative video. Quick quest about placement in the radio tray above dog house, how is the ease of access when opening dog house to service plugs and such? Is extra length of hose and wiring tucked away. Thanks in advance Happy New year

    • @MyHumveeMathilda
      @MyHumveeMathilda  9 месяцев назад

      Honestly, just like if you have all the radios connected, you’d have to remove them before opening the doghouse. I’ve tried putting rivnuts at the top of the tray, so it’s easy to remove and bend out of the way if need be.

    How is it still holding up ? I’m curious if it would cool down a 939 5 ton series truck cab .

    I'm curious on how long it will hold before those hose clamps start leaking.
    I would recommend getting those hoses crimped but maybe they hold? who knows, depends on how hot the ambient temp gets and how high the pressure gets as a result. I am not HVAC mechanic so who knows, it may not be a problem lol.

    • @MyHumveeMathilda
      @MyHumveeMathilda  Год назад

      I hope they hold too.

      I also hope those lines are refrigerant hoses. Regular hoses will probably degrade with refrigerant. But again, who knows. Let us know if anything happens. I want to know if I wasted my money on crimps and expensive hoses lol

    I am surprised that this was not available as a 24 volt version. I know they make them aftermarket for older Semi Tractors where people customize them for show trucks. Probably would have been twice the price. I have been eyeing the unit offered by Midwest Military but at $5K? Nice thing is one replaces the heater box with their all in one unit and you add a box plenum at the front of the dash. Looks really nice but $5K? They have got to be kidding!
    At least it will be a cool ride in the summer. How is the heater for winter?

    • @MyHumveeMathilda
      @MyHumveeMathilda  Год назад +1

      Exactly. $5000 VS $600, I’d go for the latter. There is a 24v kit as well, but I already had the 12v kit bought. The heater works well too.

    Im looking to see if anyone has installed a low pro RV A/C unit on a fiberglass or steel roof? They usually run on 110volt but a inverter would solve that issue. You can get a 24v to 110volt 3000 watt for $270. You can get a 13,500 BTU one for about $1150...and it wont be a added pulley to the engine

    Does it make a difference to only run one of the belts to the alternator?

    • @MyHumveeMathilda
      @MyHumveeMathilda  Год назад

      Great question. I was worried in the beginning because I had to remove one of the belts and use it on the compressor and that left only one belt running to the alternator. But it was a brand new belt, so I was hoping it wouldn’t make much of a difference. I’ve been driving it since then, put about 200 to 300 miles on it no problem so far.

    • @MyHumveeMathilda
      @MyHumveeMathilda  Год назад +3

      Actually the interior of a humvee isn’t much larger than a typical suv. As long as the weatherstrip is good and there’s no leaks in the cab this works perfectly. Believe me, I drove it for two days on sunny days. It works just fine. I wouldn’t use it in the desert though.
