Love you did a segment on Gibson. My grandpa played pro baseball from 1960 till 1969.(Ed Rakow) He's a Shenley park guy. He said when he was a kid even the infield was scared when he was at bat. Ball hot!!!!

Thank you, DK, for your J1Q response! Any other team (almost) with a starting lineup like ours has the bats to keep them competitive during the game. It's beyond time to give these pitchers - and the city they represent - the offense AND relief pitching that brings along the runs scored and stay competitive in all aspects of the game.

While we are chatting so pleasantly, The Pirates are only 1/2 game out...........of LAST place!! Yes, let's add a hitter.....after getting rid of our worthless hitting coach!! And manager!! ( who was also a hitting coach..... but can't see a problem?)

I've been a fan of the negro leagues for decades. I grew up less than a mile from the Homestead field where they sometimes played. ( I played there too). But I can't see combining the records of the negro league records with the MLB teams. The Negro league competion was way too inconsistent. I like the idea of naming the MVP award after josh. Definitely put josh on the pgh. Mt. Rushmore. And Satchel was definitely one of the best ever.

DK.... Former Pirate Tucipita Marcano, has been the 1st player in 100 years to be banned for life, for betting 25 times, while playing for the Pirates. Do you think that hastened his delarture back to the Padres??

How to win the World Series. Sign Bauer from the Mexican league. Rent a couple bats before the trade deadline. That's it.

I would prefer NOT to sign another domestic abuser, but all that aside…who would we even replace in the rotation lol. Your solution is to sign a POS and clubhouse cancer to fix the ONE aspect of our team that isn’t currently broken

I’m sorry I know u said you’re not trying to rewrite history but you did. You changed what it means to be apart of the Pirates franchise to that u could rewrite someone into it who wasn’t there. If that isn’t rewriting history I’m not sure what is. It’s a travesty he never was but at the end of the day either he was or he wasn’t and he wasn’t. I definitely think we should acknowledge who was great from the negro leagues, but also to say that he would’ve been just as good or better in a combined league is also wrong, more players, more competition, lesser stats. And saying that he couldn’t be in the mlb is true but doesn’t matter, that’s just an excuse to rewrite the history.

@@dkpittsburghsportspirates this is what i mean though, I never said anything about it being bad for anyone. I very clearly commented on you saying you wouldn’t rewrite history and then doing that exact thing. Also I didn’t compare those stories, I compared your response to both videos receiving push back. Saying I did that is a disgustingly bad faith argument. I really can’t tell if you did that out of ignorance or malice cause my perception of you really was either you’re too smart to do that accidentally and too nice to do it purposefully.

I'm not remotely in support of the move. There's no question there were numerous MLB quality players, including star and super star level players, in the league. However, it's highly likely the negro leagues overall were sub-par leagues. Roughly 10% of the population filling out 8 teams (at least it was 8 teams I saw on Baseball Reference) and roughly 90% of the population filling out 16 teams in the AL & NL. Even if we say that 10% of the population generated 2 or 3 times more MLB quality level players than the other 90% did, those 8 teams overall still are weaker teams, not unlike the Japanese leagues now. It really sucks, but they didn't play MLB. Numerous Negro League stars have rightly been honored with inclusion into the Hall of Fame, but I don't think it makes sense to mix their stats with the MLB stats. As for some of the other leagues considered major leagues, we probably should seriously think of dropping one or more of them from being considered major leagues. The Union Association comes to mind in regards to that. Just look at Hugh Daily's stats before and after his 1884 UA season, vs that UA season. Seems pretty obvious that was a sub-par league that shouldn't be considered a major league.
