It's really hard to tell how the stars of the NL would have done had they played their entire careers in MLB as there is such a small sample of players who made the transition. Of those players like Doby, Robinson ,Irvin, Campanella, the transition was very successful but on the whole its easy to tell the pitching in the NL was far inferior to ML pitching as while they kept their power their BA took a huge hit. Would Gibson hit .400 in the Majors? Probably not. But he would have been a solid .300 hitter with 30 to 40 HRs a year.

What’s sad is the fact that during the “barnstorming” part of Baseball in the 30’s and 40’s were white teams playing against the Negro teams. White players respected and enjoyed playing against, which means “with” these players. But asked if they want them in MLB? Almost all said “no”.
America has never been perfect, but it has always “tried” to be.
What black players, indeed, their struggle to be equal period, is a testament to the greatness of our nation, as by the 90’s and early 2000’s race was so far removed from peoples lives that it was just a scratch on American history.
