The stabilization while walking seems much better than the 3rd party camera apps. I think with it being an apple product they can hit parts of the hardware (like the sensor shift) that the other apps can’t access.
I think this app is actually a perfect middle ground between the native camera app and Blackmagic’s. A real pro will want BM, but this gives you fully manual control of all the important features in a simple and intuitive interface. Other than not having h.265 log and limited aspect ratios , this camera app is everything I would have wanted and will be my daily driver capture app. Perfect for those who want a little more manual control than the native app but really don’t need to go as deep as BM lets you.

Ok,not so bad, I still think the Blackmagic app has more options.. I wish Apple would come with Cinematic mode in LOG in iphone 16, would buy it right away 😅

@@clafflin493bro, he’s 100% right. For the life of me, I could not get any other camera to connect to my brand new iPad. I had everything set up correctly with wifi and bluetooth, everyone was logged into an Apple ID, and it still would not work. One iPhone could see my iPad and could even start the connection process where he had to put in the share code, while the other just could not see my iPad at all. All were on the same wifi. I restarted the iPad and the iPhones, restarted the app and still nothing worked. It was extremely frustrating.
I downloaded this app on my iPhone 13 Pro Max and it will not let me record in ProRes. I get a notification saying "ProRes 3840 x 2160 at 30 fps is only supported when your device has a minimum storage capacity of 256GB or when recording to external storage" I currently have plenty of space on my phone so this is kind of disappointing.
Just some thoughts on the multi cam app. They really should have a single button to match all cameras to a given device, and if any camera can't match then warn which device didn't match and how. That way if one is using a bunch of different iPhones they can match to the weakest option easily without having to tinker around with a bunch of cameras only to find the last one is the weakest link and having to go back and readjust all the others to match. Secondly they need to not only fix the rang issue, but figure out a way to remote join a camera from a different internet location otherwise this is just a very limited and cheesy option and not very pro at all.
Is it worth it to get the 15 pro this summer and film all my travels (upgrading from 12 pro max ) I have a carrier upgrade, and would like to use it with a cage from small rig and my older lenses a couple moment lenses and 37mm lenses or I can wait for the 16 and then also wait for the new cage and adapters and cases etc so I’m assuming I won’t be able to get it until 6 months from now in December. Could there be a case for the 15 pro now and have 6 months of experience with the phone or is it better to just sit and wait and see what they got in the meantime and just get the 16 instead? Thanks in advance, much love from fleetwood bc
Wait until after sept 10th 2024 to get the iPhone 16. Not much longer and well worth waiting for. No matter what the specs will be, they will be improved upon what we have now.

I used the Blackmagic app while on a trip to Portugal and when I get back 3/4 of the the video clips have no sound Luckily that was a secondary as brought my BMPCC6k as primary and used iPhone for all backup shots
Yeah I always feel spoiled that the pocket cameras still record real time audio so you can align it later in post if desired. But yes the app sadly does not have the same ability.
I think people reviewing Apple products often don't understand the company very well. Apple isn't trying to compete with Blackmagic...they've intentionally given them a particular lane on the platform which is mutually beneficial for both companies. If they wanted to Sherlock Blackmagic or Mavis or any of the other camera apps they certainly could. So why aren't they? That's the question you all need to answer rather than "why didn't Apple do....?" Apple is all about the ecosystem and they tend to roll out capacity over time rather than frontl oading everything, all at once. Most advanced professionals (people who make films/TV/Streaming) are (probably)not going to use this at all (yet). But there are a lot of folks who are also professionals (RUclipsrs, skilled enthusiasts, independent media) who are in Apple's ecosystem who now have one more reason to stay and maybe even double down. Someone who was perfectly content with their pre-M iPad and who makes content suddenly has a compelling reason to upgrade. The multicam is perfect for BTS and on location (indoor) set ups (like conventions and tech shows) and for video podcasts. It does a good job of putting a very advanced workflow at the fingertips of folks who either don't want the hassle of setting something like this up or who don't yet know how or who don't have two or three of the same camera. There are number of ways to get a multicam view but almost nothing is as simple as this. Yes, I realize this is the "standalone" app review. But here in lies the misunderstanding. Apple doesn't see this as a standalone app for people shoot, record, and edit as usual. They're building a Final Cut infrastructure/ecosystem and if they don't abandon it, may result in more buy-in for their products/philosophy...which Hotel California-esque, all the time. Apple's "Pro" moniker is at least somewhat about flattery: it can make people feel more skilled (or powerful) than they maybe are at the moment. Apple doesn't get everything right all the time but they have been consistently strategic about stuff like this. And their vision of "pro" has always been to simplify what is (needlessly) complex. Sometimes they're right, sometimes they're wrong. But that's their culture.
It’s literally the first version on day 1 release and people are crying about it and trying to compare it to a product that came out at least a year ago and has had many updates.
I feel this is an unfair review. Continuity camera is what they’re using. It’s been well documented to be a 20-30 foot range on Mac for years now. I feel you wanted black magic camera which is free or p3 camera which is paid.
Hey man, thanks I give you a thumbs up😅 👍 I agree with you about black magic app , at least for iPhone, I’m not professional, but I can take good pictures and videos 😊

Your take is narrow. Only a tiny percentage use this for podcasting. Think bigger-life events like graduations and weddings, or even sharing video from network cameras on Apple's Final Cut app with production crews. Apple's design reaches the masses. The number of people attending these events far outweighs podcast creators. Broaden your scope, man. It's clear you're biased-possibly sponsored by Blackmagic or a fan. As a channel host, you should know how few people use Blackmagic compared to Apple. I own both, and I'm the only one I know who does. As fun as it is to watch you talk with the same background every video, you need to quit being so freaking lazy and actually show, gear in action. I just watched three or four videos where people seem to be working together with literally no issue at all like the ones you described. So that I have visual evidence, for you I have a hearsay story about you and your wife upstairs. Step it up, dude. The most impressive thing I ever see you do is make cages that you don’t look strong enough to carry.
