These are the only HOBs i use. The onky thing i dont like about them is the skimmer feature it takes away from the suction on the intake. So i actually just block off the skimmer part with plastic and some silicone. Other than that they are awesome

Has a lot of space for filter media. Have never use HOB. My mother’s 29gal has one. Seem to do great. May use one on another project. Thanks Danny for info

You need to place your foam media vertical so the water flows through it and not around it.

It does great this way. Easy to remove and clean. It's catching enough that the water is crystal clear.
