Funny to read these comments while in my opinion the Witcher1 is better than the 2nd and 3rd game. Not just in atmosphere, but in storytelling and many people who actually played the 1st game not really cared about the eastereggs this game offers. Those who saying completed to 100% this game has many secrets you have to walkthrough several times to find all of them. Currently i've started my 5th walkthrough in the Witcher1 haven't played it since 2023, but this is a game i like so much.
For me Witcher1 is the closest to the Witcher books from the trilogy, it's actually gives details to some parts of the books, which i find it insane. Currently i only know Metro Exodus which following the books so well. Ofc it's "outdated" that's why they making the 20th anniversary remake of this game. Many players just give up their walkthrough after prologue and they refusing to finish chapter1 because they find it "boring"... I actually kinda understand there perspective, but this game reach it's beggining in chapter2 when you get your silver sword.
This game requires 52hours to beat for first time covering every quest/side-quest, reading every papers and books. I really think this game is so unique it's still worth it to play even after decades.

honestly, you playing witcher 1 is getting a subscribe from me by itself. ive been a witcher fan for over 7 years now and only couple months ago i actually finished witcher 1. this series, both books and games, can absolutely steal your heart and never give it back. but the first game can be very frustrating because of its age, but i hope you can look past it and immerse yourself into the story and remember that this is almost a two decades old game haha. my pro tip for the hard parts is dont be afraid to watch hella old tutorial videos, they cut hours of struggle down to nearly zero :) sorry if this is a bother to read, just hope you'll enjoy it and maybe continue onto the rest of games because trust it gets SO MUCH better

A note on the Sword stance: this is VERY much how you hold a sword in a fight. One of the ways at least. This guard is called the Roof (Vom Tag) in German manuscripts and Posta di Falcone in Italian (might also be Posta di Donna).

Yep, TW1 engine really HATE "mad clickling" like in Diablo or similar productions :) but on easy mode you have sword icon changing color to yellow when you should click again to add next move to combo (more skillpoint in style = more hits in combo you may add, each hit in combo make bigger damage, so it's better to try combos as often as possible) and nope, you are unable to switch difficult midgame so it's good you started from it :D
Also little tip for current chapter in Wyzima outskirts - you will have option to buy oil against specters, but it and no matter what keep at least one for final battle :D

Witcher books and games veteran here. Im glad you started with part 1 .
I remember anticipating the game to come out back in 2006 and 2007 being fresh after reading the books - sweet memories ;).
As for Netflix show, it barely resembles the books, definitely doesnt have the vibe of books or games, lots of story has been changed or added for no reason. I was terribly dissappointed because it doesnt feel like Witcher at all.
Try Polish tv series from 2002, it has 13 episodes. Its very low budget series, some of story is also made up but it has the vibe of original book source. I remember I watched it on VHS tape back in 2004/2006 even before I've read the books.

At the outskirt (chapter 1) you have to sell everything to make much money to buy all the books! To get proof from a killed monster you have to know the monster from a special book. The other weapons aren't useful, but you can sell them too for some gold. Have fun and explore this cool world!

    - TW1 have realy outdated mechanics (it was made on aurora device, just like Neverwinter Nights 1) but I agree you should start your adventure with games from first part (after you read books ;) ) so I strongly suggest setting dificulty on easiest one and play it just for story
    - about cinematics - Geralt wanted to help Adda not kill her, that's why he not used sword, and that as you said 'kamehama' was just extended aard sign :) later he just scared striga to be able to slip in her coffin to break curse... entire cinematic is one of stories in first book :)

When it comes to the starting cinematic that you saw, it was supposed to be an adaptation of part of the short story "The Witcher" from the first The Witcher book, "The Last Wish". While it isn't bad at all and relatively faithful if you look at it broadly and ignore some very questionable choices (to say the least), what can jump out the most to someone that knows what actually went down is that they made Geralt trade several more blows with the striga unnecessarily, do two absolutely ridiculous jumps from too high that would've definitely broken his legs and also all of that wacky parkour. I guess they thought it'd make the cinematic cooler and more engaging to have this extra stuff, but as I see it, it just made it kinda cringe if you know the IP well, as doesn't really reflect Geralt's methodical approach as a professional that shouldn't be goofing around and breaking his legs for no reason lol. Maybe the remake will do a better job and stick closer to the source material, which doesn't really need any weird additions like the ones made.
In any case, I recommend also reading the books if you can, not only to know more about TW's universe so you can better enjoy the games, which are supposed to be non-canon continuations, but also experience the very cool style and story that Andrzej Sapkowski wrote. I hope you have fun with TW1 and manage to finish it! I really like this game despite all of its problems.

A lot of things in game are almost copy of the stories from book, they made hundrets of dialogues in a way to pit book-quote there etc... Geralt have amnesy, right, but Alvin play role almost as Ciri, Triss behave like Yen, we have striga quest AGAIN and so on and so on... only after TW1 hit minor success CDPR let themselves add litle more to the game in TW2 and later at TW3 :)

3:18:27 I had the same problem with hair, your graphic card is too good 😉 to fix it You need to make less FPS per second by changing it in your graphic card settings for this game.

Each game follows on from the first and you meet many of the same people in the later games.
Controls are a bit clunky and combat is more about rhythm than skill, but you do need to select the proper stance, etc.
    Good luck.
As a side not, this was the very first game from the studio and it was made with an engine not built for third person games.
Also, all of the creatures in this game are based on real European folk lore.

this game came out 2 freakin years between dragon age origins so don't be surprise he's holding his sword "like that" or that they mention parrying but thtat doesn't have to mean it's an actual available mechanic , silly! :D:D

For many poles first games has best story. Its most witcher type story. Next games go on too big scale. Its like first game is Spiderman homecoming, second is spider man no way home. And third is Spiderman into the multiverse vs Galactus vs DC.
About difficulty lvl. Only first chapter is hard. Second game, go for easy bc they fck up fight mechanics. And its looks like in full action rpg, but its not. Its turn based but in real life so its very confusing.

Holy shiet. You're probably like, one out of ten people who played this game on RUclips 😂 Most people never played Witcher 1 or 2. They skipped straight to Witcher 3 and then proclaim themselves as a Witcher fan. You though, you're my people 👌 This game means a lot to me. Without this game I wouldn't be here today. You're gonna have fun with it. Cheers!

Game was created on aurora engine from BioWare. Bioware was watching develepment of Witcher from its beginings. They just ripped off many idea sfrom witcher world - like status of elves and Gray wardens are just worse witchers etc. Love u done witcher content :)

The first game is more like a student project made by people who had no idea how to make a video game.

I think the devs are making a remake of the 1rst witcher game, so may be you could have started with 3 and then play the remake of 1 when it comes out and then 2 x) I mean, this one is very old and not that good ^^' Might be a pain to play but brave of you to try :) I didn't xD I started with 3 and loved it

Well surely a "tough one" in this day and age... Not that its bad, but it aged quiet a bit and it is CDPR's first game so...
But anyone who likes goldies definitely should give it a try, though especially the story and quality ramps up from part 2 onwards.
On the other hand it definitely is a good start for someone not familiar with the underlying story, the books or lore.
And just to say it out loud, this game was pretty much peak tech at the time.

@@Mere_Prologue its not simple and irrelevant because its heavily story based and what it does is show the gamer isn't interested in actually paying attention to what is going on which is why i watch its a glimpse of what's to come so if she can't pay attention for a short cutscene i know the playthrough will be a lot of not paying attention and its just not going to be enjoyable. if the gamer is more interested in chat and stuff going on outside the game then its just worth watching. and you're absolutely right i will go look for another one, someone that's interested in gaming over what chat has to say about food, their daily lives and random crap
