There's always something to learn. There was a couple seconds of the truck in the river with snow with the cable run out the front, that was taking the same day that Bryce dropped off the truck over a year ago. 🤪😂
Great video. I've got the factory pto for the dump bed. Didn't know if I was in gear first I could still move. Been disengaging after the bed is up to put it in gear. TY Definitely wanting to find a winch but for the 6x6....
Another great video. I have the same same setup..... do you always leave the cable run to the back? I was thinking I would do the same since these trucks are usually better to back out of trouble than pulling yourself further in.
The pto lock out is kind of annoying, but based on some of the drivers I knew in the military, I understand why they would try catering to the lowest common denominator...... ;-) On our 2-1/2 ton trucks, to prevent damage on the winches, they used to pull the shear pins out. The older mechanical Duce just had a lever for the pto inside, and if it was engaged outside, off it would go. (Along with the bumper it was hooked to eventually.) It amazing how easily your truck can pull the pickups around. ;-)
On a lot of these clips, you have two people pulling the winch cable out. Couldn't you have had one person in the cab using the winch out switch and one person walking backwards just to keep slight tension to avoid a tangle? I haven't had a chance yet to try this on my own truck.
Great vid! Is your truck an A1 with the Cat C7? Overall, do you find that your truck is reliable? I had a 5 ton (1990) 6x6 and it needed constant repair/updating due to its age even though it only had 7,000 miles on it.
I'm hoping the power take off being on maybe the reason my truck won't fill in gear. I'm going to have to check it out. Hopefully my issue is that easy to fix. Maybe some rookie didn't know how to engage the transmission with the PTO being on I didn't realize the PTA was on before they wrote it up as transmission won't engage...
My truck didn't engage in reverse from the auction. It was just due to low voltage signal to the transmission. The truck had two dead batteries. Swapped them out with new ones and it shifted perfectly.
@@NEILSWORLD I hope my problem is similarly that easy. I do also have a transmission oil temperature light on, and the front drive shaft is slightly bent which needs replaced...
I bought mine at an online government auction. There are plenty of them for sale in the civilian world. Martin go through the mechanically and gives a six-month warranty. fmtvsales.com/
Another great instructional video... just makes me wish I had a winch! I love the added capability. Good work!
Thank you David, the winch has been pretty handy 👍
I learned a lot and I don't have an OEM winch. I like how you saved up 6 months of footage to make this video. Keep up the awesome work Neil!

Great video. I can't wait to buy one of these.
Your videos are simple, informative, and super helpful. Please keep up the great work. And thanks for sharing the knowledge
Thank you!!
Excellent information on the PTO system. I was excited to see you covered the truck being in gear then engaging the PTO. 👍
Thanks
Chad, your truck is an A1, can you engage your PTO while in gear also?
Thanks in advance.
D Craigslist i haven’t actually tried yet.

My engage - disengage shifter is stuck in the disengage position! Any advice? Great video! 👍

I routed the cable to the back after installing the snow plow this winter. I'm thinking I might bring it to the front for the summer, not sure.

Why is it annoying? Its dead simple
@@flight2k5 Its also dead not required. They put it on so stupid people don't get confused.

You could do it that way. 👍
Nice paint job on that dash board
Thanks
Holy shit! That's quite the rig with the V plow and sander!!!
Thanks, I love it😁
Very informative...!!!!!.
Thanks
Great video - thanks. M1078 part pickup truck/part UTV
My own transformer.

Mine is a 1997 A0 with a Cat 3116. I've put over 6,000 miles on it and it hasn't let me down yet.
Shame the FMTV doesn't have locking diffs, would make it a lot less prone to getting stuck.
A mechanical locker can be added
The opening shot made me pucker and involuntary move my head to the left
Lol, watch out for those spring loaded cables!!

Like the winch set up and how the line is ran
The great thing about it is you can run the line to the front or the back 👍
@@NEILSWORLD could you show how you ran everything
Definitely, it's all factory-installed from Stewart and Stevenson. I will do a detail video on switching the cable from the rear to the front.
there is no dif lock?
No
Anyone know if an A1 can do the same thing where the tires can drive while winching?
Yes it can
the winch in my truck wont work i hear it try to winch out or in but it wont turn, any ideas? i have a 98 LMTV
Possibly low on fluid.
No. The fluid is good
Look in the TECHNICAL MANUAL MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS for troubleshooting. Lookin manual TM 9-2320-365-20-2 chapter 2 - 28. That is page 2 - 1945.
NEILVVT I will. Thanks
you need another winch to pull out the cable 😂
No 🤣, the hydraulic oil just makes it slow. 😁
want one
Everybody should have at least one 😆👍
Gotta get a life. Watching winch vidio? Lol
Nothing wrong with that. just select a play list and get it run!!
Shit that was boring commen sense to most ex military
Thanks for watching 👍
@@NEILSWORLD sorry if I came across a bit harsh I'm ex military and I'm going through a bit of a bad time I apologise 😔
No worries. Lots of civilians are buying these trucks and they don't have a lot of knowledge about them.
