I went to the premiere for Dicks the Musical in LA, saw Saw X, Gen V, Bottoms, and probably more. I consume so much I'm not sure.
Poor things
@@wrentheunicornI can't wait to see Dicks The Musical
Pulp Fiction really convinced me my bob cut looked good for far too long
Maybe it was good lol
I thought only men liked that film
Same, I got the pixie-ish cut that Fabienne had.
(tbh it wasn't a bad look though...)
This was literally me three months ago lol but to feel like ur Mia Wallace was not so bad
@@dafuzzymonsterhavent talked to many women I take it?
My brother was initially reluctant to watch Mean Girls or Legally Blonde with me, considering them to be "girly." He ended up really enjoying them, and was surprised by how hilarious they were.
the humor really does work on everyone, which is incredibly impressive
I don't see the connection between those two movies
Legally blonde is incredible
Recently watched Mean Girls for the first time, it’s kind of “girly” but it’s also just a really good movie.
I liked all the Wes short films on Netflix. The Swan, the Rat Catcher, and Poison were all unique and I enjoyed them all.
I had no idea these were already out and I can't wait to see them. Loved Henry Sugar.
Update: Loved them! Reminded me that Roald Dahl can be wonderfully twisted sometimes, and Poison was my favourite of the three
The rat catcher was probably my favorite of those. Ralph Fiennes was perfectly creepy
They were good, but I do wish there was ever so slightly less narration... it got a bit grating and I had urges to just go and read the stories instead
the ending of poison was very very good@@maxresdefault_
Saw Scott Pilgrim for the first time. Knew nothing about it, and it was nuts to butts from start to finish, and I was dying laughing from all the nonsense that was happening. Very fun.
I’ve been rewatching Scott Pilgrim regularly for the past 13 years and it remains so much fun! 😻
In my top 3 - so so good
nuts to butts- i love that
Pulp Fiction seems like one of those films that was everyones favourite film at one point and none of us want to admit it.
On the contrary I’d say it was what everyone said their favorite film was at one point, even though it never really was
facts
I really hope Wes Anderson makes more of those Roald Dahl shorts. They really were something special.
As someone who loved so many adaptations if Dahl's work as a kid, those shorts felt like they could have been lifted right out of my childhood.
Little espresso shots of Wes Anderson

I watched one movie every day this September. It was definitely something. Some highlights were Prisoners, Prince of Egypt, Dead Poets Society, Bringing Up Baby, and Blade Runner 2049 (all first time watches).
Great first time in watch picks.
This video is what I'm most excited about at the beginning of each month
I watched sideways at 15 and was too young to understand. Rewatched it in my 30s and ooof! Hit me like a ton of bricks. I highly recommend revisiting when you’re older. Paul’s character is perfection. You gotta be a bit jaded by life to see through the pretension. At least imo
Fiona and cake was my highlight of the month. If you're a fan of Adventure Time it's an absolute treat a fan service and incredible animation and storytelling
Watched both Palm Springs and The Worst Person in the World for the first time this month, two very different films about love but both super rewarding in their own ways!
Also rewatched The Silence of the Lambs, which was one of my favourites when I was younger - still a masterpiece obviously, but somehow I found it way more viscerally disturbing that I did back then? Teenage me was hardcore in a way that current me is not lmao
Silence (of the lambs) is golden. One of my favourite thriller/horrors out there. If you haven't check out Manhunter, which came before and is a slightly different take on the story Red Dragon (another in the Lecter series but not Hopkins), it's a bit 80s but I would say that in a good way.
As for Palm Springs I've only seen it once, remember thinking it was okay, but didn't add that much to the time loop idea, then again I flip flop a lot on whether Andy Samberg is funny or not.
Watched Puss in Boots the last wish. That movie is fucking great I was not expecting it to be so wonderfully animated and heartfelt. Also the way John Mulaney delivers lines as Big Jack Horner is fucking incredible I laughed so hard at lines that otherwise i would just give nasal exhale reactions
While I too love the film, I actually found Mulaney one of the weaker elements, his voice is just too recognisable to me that it draws me out of the film quite a bit. (that is also the case for me when I rewatch Into the Spider-verse)
Karsten when he goes to a screening of some old ass movie that is packed with people: OMG THAT WAS ONE OF IF NOT MY FAVOURITE MOVIE GOING EXPERIENCE EVER!
Since its october 14th, I thought I'd suggest the leftovers, its one of my favorite shows, its so devastating and weird with a great plot and characters :)
I watched King of Comedy for the first time in September. It exceeded my already high expectations!
I watched reservoir dogs for the first time, I've seen most of Tarantino's movies don't know why it took me so long to get to it. 10/10
Watched around 40 movies this past month but I think the stand outs are Song to Song (Malick) and The Piano Teacher (Haneke). Oh and I almost forgot about Clint Eastwood´s Unforgiven and The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (Tommy Lee Jones) which I think are probably between my favorite westerns so far.
What? The scene at Jimmy’s house is basically perfect, and one of the best parts of the film even with the Tarantino self-insert.
pretty good month tbh, really excited for October as always
I watched a lot of short silent films from the 1900s because im trying to watch the most popular movie from every year and i also watched the new season of the newsreader
What's your favorite movie of 1901-1910, 1911-21, etc? ☺️
@@JimJakubJames 1910 frankenstein and the cameraman’s revenge but i haven’t finished the 1910s so that might change
That Sorcerer take is genuinely insane. Literally a perfect film
If you haven’t seen shop around the corner, it’s what you’ve got mail was based on and I feel does a much better job at developing the romance. But I also have an affinity for James Stewart so I might be bias
I watched:
Dune 2021 (4/5 - Rewatch)
The Princess Bride (4/5)
Z (4.5/5)
Werckmeister Harmonies (5/5 - Rewatch)
Tokyo Story (5/5 - Rewatch)

Yeah I had a pretty great month
Never stop these videos man
Ever since i first saw sorcerer, every once or twice a year or so, i get the craziest hankering to rewatch it. Friedkin’s directing style is so raw and visceral, but in this unplaceable way. Everything feels hushed and disturbed. Sorcerer might be my favorite of his big 3.
Two of my new favorite things in the world that I watched in September are The Late Show, an Art Carney movie from 1977, and Twin Peaks: The Return
Ngl, the entire part of Pulp Fiction with the Wolf might be my favorite sequence. I wouldn't change one millisecond of it
I know Pulp Fiction is every film major's favorite movie (besides Fight Club)... but it's just sooo fucking good.
Every time one of these videos comes out I realize that it's already been a month since the last one and I just feel the crushing weight of time pushing me down
I watched Ocean’s Eleven (2001) for the first time and I was absolutely stunned by how immersive the experience was. The filmmaking was so brilliant and I believe it’s the PERFECT heist movie
Paul Giamatti in Sideways reminded me of his role in Private Parts and you have to review that one it was one of my mom's favourites so we had it on VHS and watched it a lot
standouts from september for me were the father (2020), linda linda linda, april story, and grave of the fireflies! and ofc I did my duty and rewatched fantastic mr fox 🫡
I saw the grave of the fireflies. Haven't left my room since
Give The Descendants and Nebraska a chance if you can. Really great Payne films.
What I watched in September
Whisper of the Heart - 5/5
I really loved this one, the scene where the main character is unsure whether or not to write because she is not sure she is good and has no real experience, I deeply related to that scene as an aspiring young filmmaker, but with no experience. Everything in this film connected with me on a very personal level. Also I’m a hopeless romantic so the romance was great. Beyond
The Dark Knight - 5/5
What can I say, I’m a huge Christopher Nolan fan, a huge Batman fan, and a huge fan of all the actors involved. I love it. One of my new favorite films of all time.
Princess Mononoke - 5/5
I think this may be my favorite Ghibli and Miyazaki movie, I loved everything about it, from the characters to the story to the world it created. I’m a big fantasy guy and this was incredible. One of my new favorite films of all time.
The Flash - 2.5/5
I thought this was meh. I liked Michael Keaton, and one or two cameos were okay, but I was expecting something more. It was very slow and it felt like not much happened.
Amadeus - 5/5
A masterpiece of a period drama, I loved this one quite a bit and it’s probably in my favorites list now.
The Dark Knight Rises- 4/5
A lot of issues, but I still really enjoyed myself and it has some stand out scenes.
The Bear - 5/5
I finally finished this show and I love it so much. The characters are so realistic and relatable, the writing is so sharp and entertaining. And the cinematography and framing are brilliant.
Howl’s Moving Castle 5/5
I know it has some story issues, but this was a first time watch for me and I absolutely loved it. The animation was obviously gorgeous, the story was amazing, the.. aghw just everything about it. It was so comforting and warm and I just loved it.
Cinema Paradiso - 5/5
I know it is a bit predictable and doesn’t do anything new. But I loved it. I thought it was a beautiful film about film and I related to a lot of it. Most likely in my favorites.
🔄Sabrina (90s) - 4.5/5
Look. I know it is cliche, and formulaic, and not a stand out rom com, but ever since I saw this movie as a kid I’ve loved it, I don’t really know why, but something about it just connected with me, and I think it’s a pretty well shot film. And obviously Harrison ford is always a win.
The Invisible Guest - 3.5/5
A Spanish thriller I watched at a youth group. I enjoyed this one a lot, it was really small scale, not a big game changer, but a really fun, really entertaining thriller.
Porco Rosso - 3/5
A Ghibli movie that was okay. I didn’t have that many expectations, so I wasn’t surprised or disappointed, it didn’t blow me away, and it didn’t depress me. There’s some stuff I like in here, the aerial shots are gorgeous, some scenes are fun, Michael Keaton is good, but idk, I know it was short but it felt pretty long, and there wasn’t much going on and the ending was a little anti-climatic. Idk. I kinda like it, but I’m not passionate about it.
Thank you Karsten, very cool
Watched Sorcerer last month and your thoughts were pretty much mine to a tee. Was not feeling it for a long time but once the last hour or so hit it got super intense. Am also curious to see how a rewatch will be
Bake Off is just perfect switch your brain off TV (and as a collector of Herdy stuff, Herbert the Herdy cake was obviously my favourite).
watched both parts of kill bill! they were so great and dramatic I loved it
as usual such a good watchlist this month!
for me some of my favoriite first watches of September has to be Theatre Camp, Booksmart, Past Lives, The Game, Misery, and No One Will Save You.
It made me so mad it took me so long to watch misery and the game, but such a fun month
Interesting how you felt about Sorcerer at the beginning, personally the intro scenes already felt very intense and engaging. Particularly cool since those scenes weren't in the original film
I recently watched the 2015 film "A Perfect Day"
Funny thing - I hate the overuse of drone cameras (and this film has plenty), but they just work in this movie!
Benicio del Toro gives one of my favorite performances of his in this one
Highly recommend
I've been waiting to watch Bottoms all year and I'm going crazy waiting for it to come out in the UK
Update: I watched it the weekend it came out and I loved it! My #2 film of the year
I also just watched pulp fiction last month. And recently bought sideways at a book/media sale for a $1. Def looking forward to watching it
I follow you on letterbox yet I live for a what I watched this month
Been wanting to watch All About my Mother since I really enjoy Pain and Glory. The mommy issues only made me more interested, this is a great reminder to look for it.
Ah damn, I was looking forward to you talking about Prison On Fire, one of my favorites
you definitely don't need to go full spanish with it but Almodóvar is pronounced all-moe-DOE-var
Sorcerer does what Wages of Fear does (since its a remake of it) where it takes a while for it to get going but once it gets going it GOES
Actually watched "A Man Escaped" for the first time this month. YES. It is happier than most of Bresson's other works.
Sorcerer is so great, and I think it definitely is even better on a second watch. The first act is kind of jarring and seems almost unnecessary, but once you see what Friedkin is doing, especially by the end, it becomes vital to set these guys up for their inevitable fates. A masterpiece.
I just saw a saragossa manuscript and I have to say that it was one of the best movies I have ever saw
i started watching all almodovar films this year and im nearly done. saving todo sobre mi madre for last!
I watched 44 movies in september, I've had a lot of time since university classes will restart in october
Excited to check out Moonrise! This month I watched:
Trust, Saw 3D, The Fanatic, Tamara, Opening Night, Joe Dirt, One False Move, 28 Weeks Later, Choose Love, Lost in Translation, Pride, The Iron Giant, Zero Day, The Man Who Wasn't There, Angst, Apollo 18, Mrs. Doubtfire, Liar Liar, Happy Gilmore, Phone Booth, Cursed, Rat Race, The Blackening, A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 and 3, The Wicker Man (both), My Soul to Take, Bottoms, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and Saw X!
Agree with everything u said about Legally Blonde, one of my all time fav as well
yesss im so early love u and ur vids karsten your constantly entertaining and well done on being most followed letterboxd account lol
Will Oldham from "Old Joy" is one of my favorite songwriters.
Please watch, if you haven't already "The Shop Around the Corner" which "You've Got Mail" is sort of based on. It's one of my favorite films!
So, quite a few films for me this month with the majority being new:
- Cobweb: On national cinema day I ended up seeing this as other films were sold out. Overall it was passable, some fun ideas and middling performances. The plot is pretty barebones, but as someone described it online, it's like a dark fairy-tale. If you think that going in I think you can have a good time. Some fun creepy moments throughout make it something I'd rewatch.
- Murder on the Orient Express: Decided to rewatch the first two Branagh Poirot films in anticipation for the third. Think this faired a little better than my first watch. Still wasn't great though as Branagh's portrayal is such a departure from the character. The film making is also a bit hit and miss, some long shots work while others don't. But stuffing the supporting cast with big names helps a bit, Johnny Depp was better than I remembered so that was good, but Michele Pfieffer was worse imo.
- Death on the Nile: Again, faired better than my first watch. Shame I'd forgotten Russell effing Brand was in it though, and watched it the day news about his t**tery came out. Aside from that the film was pretty solid. The locations are filmed nicely, the long shots work better here. And Poirot is a little more his book self only slightly. The mystery is done really well, with some good twist moments when you don't expect them. I did spot a few bad cases of ADR though throughout.
- A Haunting In Venice: So now the new Poirot film. And this one was... alright? Poirot as a character is more reclusive and awkward which I approve of. The tone shift for a more horror based film is interesting and uses the setting well for it. Some performances are better than others, Tina Fey feels like she's overacting a bit. And some of the clues were a bit too obvious which did slightly spoil the twists. Also I know it wants to be dark, but sometimes I could barely see anything.
- Possum: Gave this a go as it was on Prime. Should have been about an hour shorter. It started out this creepy psychological horror film, but got to a point where it felt so repetitive and tedious that I began to hate it. Shame too as it seemed to have a lot of potential. I wouldn't bother checking this film out. Maybe the short story it's based off is better? I cba to read it.
- Men: I should've learnt my lesson with Possum. Another film with good potential, but gets so caught up with being artsy and pretentious that it becomes a meandering piece of crap by the end. Rory Kinnear's overacting and Jessie Buckley's open mouth gawking makes for a tough watch. Also for a film trying to say something on a woman's experience on abuse, maybe a man shouldn't have written the film? Shame too as there's some great cinematography for nearly all the film.
- Megamind: This was on tv, and my Dad and I happened to watch it. Whilst I'm very familiar with the film he wasn't. We both had a great time. It was about as excellent as it always is. A fun animated film, a fun look at the concept of superheroes and villains. Just a joy from start to finish, easily the best film I watched this month.
- Hallowe'en Party: I decided to check out the David Suchet tv special of this story, which I knew was the supposed story A Haunting in Venice was based off. And wow, these were two drastically different stories, even the victim was a different person entirely. While there was a little too much story crammed in and some slightly trippy camera shots, overall it was still great. Suchet was and will always be Poirot in my mind, he has the character down perfectly. Plus it got me more in the Halloween spirit than Haunting did somehow.
- Saw II: I'd only seen the first saw before and Spiral, and despite knowing a lot about the rest (videos on certain traps in the series etc) I thought I'd have a go with the second entry. Pretty fun, I like the increase of victims stuck in an escape room like setting. But doesn't really come close to the story of the original, even if the tests and traps have been beefed up. And if I didn't know one of the end twists I would've been delightfully shocked, as is was still fun.
I have also been rewatching the whole series of the BBC tv show Ghosts in preparation for it's final series (5) in October. Excellent comedy show that I highly advise to anyone, even if you're American and would probably enjoy the inferior US remake more. While the first two episodes are a bit different to the rest of the show, I would encourage you to at least watch the first series (6 episodes) if you can, it has so much heart behind it more people should take notice.
Well done if you read my whole comment, sometimes I feel like I should make a video covering my thoughts each month.
Would definitely be interested if you did animation reviews of tv shows and movies
I watched the Creator. It was awesome and the fact that it has a relatively low budget compared to modern blockbusters is crazy to me. Gareth Edwards and everyone involved did an awesome job.
I AM SO HAPPY ABOUT THIS KARSTEN GREAT BRITISH BAKING SHOW ERA
You should definitely watch “The Wages of Fear,” the movie that “Sorcerer” is based on. Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on how they compare.
I watched Hypnotic, Stan Lee, A Haunting in Venice, Angle, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, Saw 1-3, Priest (1995), The Blind.
I watched vertigo for the first time this month and wow was I not disappointed !
I watched sorcerer and bottoms this month also
Karsten please, I’ve been waiting for an in depth video on asteroid city, I’ve only seen fifteen video essays on it and I still don’t know what to think
I’ll be honest, I didn’t have too many stand out movies I saw in September when compared to usual
I continued watching through the Rambo movies with the bad 3rd one and decent fourth one. I preferred Hot Shots! Part Deux to both of them though unironically
I watched some kitchen sink dramas in the form of Sweet Sixteen and Fish Tank which are films I wouldn’t normally watch
I saw two classic rom-coms which I loved: When Harry Met Sally and Roman Holiday
And I saw quite a bit from Wes Anderson. I checked out three of his films for the first time this month. The Life Aquatic was good but not a favourite of mine. The Royal Tenenbaums was fantastic. And The Grand Budapest Hotel was easily my favourite that I saw this month
I too watched three Wes Anderson movies this month namely, Asteroid City, The Life Aquatic & The French Dispatch.
I’ve only seen Pulp Fiction and Asteroid City from this video, both really good movies.
How tf is it already October I am going to throw up
Take some Pepto!

Looking Foward to Spooktober! 👻
Last weekend [literally last day of the month] started watching through Hayao Miyazaki's filmography with a plan to then watch all of Isao Takahata's filmography before The Boy and The Heron comes out in December. I'm watching with someone, so right now we're only through Cagliostro [4.5/5] and Nausicaa [4/5]. I liked Nausicaa a lot more this time I watched it, though I still think I'm going to like Princess Mononoke more when we re-watch it. Super looking forward to the movies I haven't seen yet from Miyazaki [Totoro, Kiki, Porco Rosso, Ponyo] and looking forward to seeing Takahata's films beyond The Grave of the Fireflies [which I'm already dreading, that movie crushed me on first watch]. The other films I saw last month were They Cloned Tyrone [4/5], Lilo and Stitch again [5/5], The Hunchback of Notre Dame again [5/5], The Beauty and The Beast [3/5, fight me], and Barbie [6/5, more perfect for me than I thought a movie could be]. Lots of animation, lots of moving into a new apartment, lots of settling into a new job, lots of Toddlers & Tiaras [1/5, physically painful to watch, I'm not the only person in the house though] and Hell's Kitchen [3/5].
I love GBBS but I can't stream it on Mexico. It used to air on bbc channel but here it went to TV heaven some years ago
I haven’t watched Pulp Fiction but heard good things about it and I’m aware the story isn’t told chronologically, which can work out fine, depending on how you want to tell the story. One day I’ll watch this movie. I don’t watch many Indie or “Arthouse” style movies, as the Arthouse ones in particular, don’t interest me as much as a lower budget movie or an Indie project. Not watched Bottoms because it isn’t my type of movie. I don’t watch many documentary films but I do sometimes watch the odd one on streaming but never at the cinema. Not heard of Sorcerer but I may check it out at some point and see how it is. Not heard of Poet Justice and didn’t know 2Pac was in any movies but nice to hear that he has a good performance in this. I may well check this out at some point. I haven’t seen You’ve Got Mail but heard it’s a pretty decent movie for the time it was realised. May well check this out one day. Heard Legally Blonde is quite good, so I may well check this out some day, along with the sequel. I didn’t watch Astroid City as I watched The French Dispatch last year and had a hard time with it, so I figured the Wes Anderson style may not be for me. Shall have to wait and see if I watch another one of his movies again. Not seem Sideways but I may well check it out at some point. Shall have to wait and see. I’m yet to watch The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar short film but I may well check it out at some point too, but as it’s Wes Anderson, it’ll take me longer to watch it. The Great British Bake-Off is always a fun show for me and I’m glad you think the same too. Thank you for your sharing your thoughts on movies that aren’t just the ones that were released at the cinema in September but other movies that have been previously released in general and some which I weren’t aware of before.
Reece Witherspoon’s best performance? Cooome ooon now
The man in the moon?
Election?
Legally blonde is one ☝🏼 of her best but cannot be considered THE best

Hi Karsten I love your videos ~~ I would love if you could put a list of the movies in the description, or put timestamps in the video!
What I watched this month:
- Marry My Dead Body (Netflix, 8/10, really loved it - especially the ending)
- Warlord of the Sea (6/10 was okay but very predictable and low budget)
- Fake It Till You Make it (2023 series) 10/10 loved this! So many little details to pick up on. I really loved how they handled the break up of the obsessive bf couple on the bridge. I‘m used to seeing such men be portrayed as physically violent but I liked that it was shown that it was a psychological problem and that he needs treatment but they still separated.
The Descendants by Alexander Payne is also pretty good.
BAKE OFFFFFFFF YESSSSS
Please check out The Peasants whenever possible, its like Loving Vincent but more real and witcher 3 sidequest
I watched cube(1997) highly recommend for a horror/scifi flick
Pulp Fiction and Bottoms are a like to me, in that both are very enjoyable, and we’ll made independent films from interesting creators that inspire my own work
Hell yeah, Style Wars is an all time great! Still the best graff doc and all those old styles are still copied today all over the world.
It felt like 2 weeks ago the last month’s watchlist was posted😭
Pulp Fiction is definitely still one of the greatest films of all time to me.
You’ve Got Mail really hits different when you like it as a kid and then rewatch it as an adult and become disturbed by the capitalist themes.
I watched Dancer in the Dark. Wtf. What a masterpiece. As much as I respect it, i do not want to watch it again. Loved Bjork!!!
Me watching the legally blonde segment and seeing scenes from the party i've never seen before: wait, what?
Pretty sure the only thing I watched was Howl's Moving Castle. Still good, but I think watching it in a theater made,it feel better paced than at home. Idk.
Karsten you need to watch Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence
Movies I watched in September 2023
Puss in Boots The Last Wish
Red Eye
X-men First Class
Renfeld
The Road of El Dorado
The Truman Show
Minions Rise of Gru
Thelma and Louise
They Live
A Haunting in Venice
Elemental
Stand by Me
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem
No One Will Save You
Arrival
Dragonheart
Courage Under Fire
The Creator
Birds of Prey
Pulp Fiction is absolutely incredible.
I did not see any movies I barely have time to breath💀💀💀💀💀💀
the last weeks i started watching your channel and i love it. i watch specially this videos of the best you saw in x month, and i wanted to make a "recommendation". it happens to me that a movie appear, i see the name and while you start talking about the movie i may became really interested in the movie, but before you start to talk about another movie, i just forgot the name of the movie to write it down and i have to put the video at the moment when the name appears, and it's a bit "annoying"?. i don't know, your videos are great, but i would recommend to you to put the name of the movie after passing to another. maybe this only happens to me, but i wanted to say it. i don't want to sound like a perfectionist or hater, it's just a though. thank you for the amazing videos
We demand a 45 minute video on The Great British Bake Off.
