Randomly clicked this video. Not at all disappointed. Recently got interested in watching aqua scaping, so this would be a really interesting thing to add to one of those. Especially if you have a large tank that you can have space for a small colony and still have room for a pond style setup for fish

You should try making A rainforest/jungle habitat with a mini pond, with aquatic life such as snails and shrimp. Maybe even a few loaches to eat the ants that fall in the water!
That's my dream project buddy with multiple ant colonies too, but I don't have a big enough place for it now. Maybe in the future if we got succes here in yt, cause we need big enough space so the ants won't be able to raid the other inhabitants easily.

Where did the big acrylic box come from ?!?! The upside down lid on the corner and outside are perfect for fluon as ants struggle to go upside down with fluon applied
I constructed it using acrylic sheets buddy, I've shown it on most of my DIY builds using them. Just skipped on this one 😁

I use a local brand name ABC buddy, just the typical grout.

Hey, what kind of grout do you always use? I used to use gypsum and it's frustrating how fast it is thickening and not pourable because if the mixture is too thin, the end product is too porous

One of the best formicariums I've seen, truly, I have to wonder, how will you move them if it becomes necessary? And how will you clean out the nests one day?
We have an expansion hole on the front of the glass buddy, if you mean how to clean for reuse? Since we can't clean it if they're inside, The lid can be open for each nest buddy once they've move to another set up.

It's a local brand name ABC tile grout buddy, the grout is only dried for 24 hours so it's still soft to carve 🫡

Hello! I recently found a strange type of ants in my yard. I dug up the nest and put it in a jar. Idk if I got the queen or not but I did get broods. My question is what type of ants are they? Small but not tiny, bodies are dull (not shiny) and they are all black except the tips are white on antennas. They are docile. I found them in the ground under a plant near an oak tree. They seem very reclusive. Only one or two ants foraging. Not a line of them. Not very many either (like fire ants) so no swarm of them when I dug them up. Maybe I found a new species. lol I can send you video of them if you want.
I would love too see if I can help buddy, but you can also check the ant wiki for list of available ants in your country you can get an id there or some hints.

How often do you give them water and how and how much?
Drinking water is a must buddy so it should be always available for them. If you mean the nest, just water it if it looks dry. You can tell by comparing it to the hills around it which is so light cause of dryness.
Love tetramorium sp your so creative with this I wish I have your skill and planning Ideas soon I have a big work area and I can get projects started the set up you did reminded me of playing with minature army men as a kid lol I want to try this with Caespitum or Forte thanks again and if you want to make me a nest like that Id pay you for it, its so nice to look at..

Hey, I am making plans to use ants as feeders for poison dart frogs since fruit flies escape far too easily. As an expert, can you recommend to me any species of ant that is small, (about 1/8 of an inch at the most) unequipped with stingers or other defenses, and reproduces really quickly?
I'd say tetramorium like the ants on this vid buddy as they're very docile. Crematogaster sp would be great too.

How do you transport ants from the test tube to an anthill?
If they're still on a testube that's easy buddy, just place the tube in the ant hill they'll move on their own if the new ant farm met all the requirements as their living quarters.

I'm not familiar with the location buddy, but ants usually starts to fly on a hot humid day most of the time summer. The best time to take note is a few days after the first strong rain. Good luck buddy hope this helps!

I've never bought queen ant my self buddy, I'm just hunting queen's. Just search online maybe you can find thread of nuptial flight season near your area. I'm from the Philippines and the best month to hunt is from may to August. In differs on places so do a research for easier hunting buddy, just a tip queen ants fly most on hot and humid day. Some at night.

Im starting to believe hat you cant get a 50k ant colony with just one queen you need a super colony
You can buddy with a single queen Asian marauder ants and solenopsis geminata can reach 100k workers. 🫡
D colony, my queen did not eat and did not remove her wings yet for 6 days
That's not a good sign buddy, the best thing you could do is give her a honey but remove left overs. then hide her in dark quiet place for a month before checking her again and hope for the best. Or you can also let it go to give her a chance to participate in another nuptial flight.

If it's a newly caught queen buddy, you should identify it first. If she's a claustral queen no need to feed her until she had her 1st batch of workers, if semi claustral queen, you should feed her every 3 to 4 days.

Maybe they don't need protein yet buddy, check if they have larvae present as the larvaes and queen is the only member who needs protein. If they're somehow present just Let them relax in a quiet dark place and try it again after several days.

What is a good starter ant, climate ist middle europe, germany
I'm not from Germany but I never looked into ant species when I started my colonies, I just went out when they were flying and got me some queens (some I lost naturally, a few were due to my own error) but I now have 5 colonies. [2 black, 3 red]
All my ants are only just starting to wake back up as the weather is warming, and my red ants that I found last year so far only have a very small number of workers.
While I know other parts of the world have leafcutter or weaver or seed eating ants, I don't think there's any of that where I live so I'm not too worried about not being able to provide them with specialist things that colonies like that may need.
Start with what's specie available around you buddy, that's the best way to earn experience. From what I've heard lasius is pretty good starting colony, check it out if it's available in your area.
