This video demonstration worked for me very nicely. I was able to make my kitchen sink soap dispenser working again very well instead of buying a new pump from AZ. The pump was not working properly for many months, and it practically stopped working at all two days ago. The dispenser was totally jammed due to accumulation of soap all around the pump during last eight years of regular everyday uses. It took me some time to clean the pumping system using warm water in a small plastic mug / cup. I had to change the water (warmed in a microwave and that is why I used a plastic mug ) two-three times before the pump started moving back and forth again. Finally, I also used a few drops of 3 in 1 machine oil and the pumping mechanism became almost like a new pump suddenly. In the end, I used warm soap water to wash away any residual oil from inside the pump. This entire procedure worked well for me because the pump was made of high quality teflon and it was fairly expensive when I had purchased it over eight years ago. I suppose my kitchen sink soap pump will last for many more years before I need to clean it again or buy a new pump. Thank you!
Like many others, I bought some lotion recently, but upon setting the pump to open, it simply would not pump. The "soak in hot water" trick worked fantastically, and saved the bottle (and a trip back to the store to return the product as defective) - Thank you very much!
Thanks so much for the tip. I tried it and it worked! I just bought the lotion and the pump wouldn't work so initially I was frustrated because the lotion cost me $13.00. After watching your video and trying it... worked like a charm. Thanks!
I watch RJ for bike maintenance education. I Google "pump dispenser won't work" and lo and behold it's an RJ video. RJ for President! How did you figure this out???
RJ you were right the first time, it was clogged after all. My DH took the pump apart and soaked it as your video shows. After that, it worked! It turns out that this conditioner is prone to clogging -- the pump, not my hair.
oh my goodness. my conditioner pump wasn't pumping anything out and I tried this, and after pumping it a few more times conditioner came out! thank you so much!!!!
This worked like a dream! Thank You! A pump not working when you really NEED the product makes me insanely angry! Like,..body wash when showering and have to unscrew the pump and pour the wash…Grrrrrrr!
Hi thanks so much for your helpful tip on de-clogging the lotion pump! I was totally frustrated all day thinking that I had to buy a new one, then saw your video and tried it out, which worked! Yeah! thanks again for sharing this!!! :-)
Thanks! I just got a new lotion and it wouldn’t pump at all. I was so irritated. I didn’t think it could be plugged if it was brand new! I watched your video and I took the pump out and dipped the stick in hot water and that didn’t do anything but I rinsed out the inside of the top with hot water and voila! Saved me a trip to the store to return it and having to open the bottle every time!
RJ, I would like to say this is my first subscription to any DIY site. You are a great help. I made two homemade tools, from you information first one is headset remover, and headset press. This is my second attempt to contact you, with the same problem, which I have a trigger spray bottle. I soaked it with no results, however a small ball bearing came out while removing trigger from the bottle. Firstly, where does it go. Please forgive me if I being repetitive, as I did not see my comment under this video. Hope to hear from you shortly. Thanks again for all you assistance.
How can anyone dislike this video :/?! Thank you soooo much this is a great tip, you have just saved me a fortune, the amount of things I’ve thrown away because I thought the pump was broken, but yesterday after getting a 500ml of aveeno and the pump not working immediately brought me to you 🙏 I just wish I found this earlier
This worked for me!! A lot of online tips didn't for stuff I've tried in the past so I wasn't hopeful but it worked. I used it on a trilogy face lotion bottle - so weird, it's about half used and today it pumped out one squirt and then just stopped. I was baffled. Anyway, thank you!
I had a problem with my METHOD brand foaming soap dispenser - it stopped working when I refilled it with the METHOD gel hand wash refill that I bought separately. I eventually figured out what the problem was - the liquid in the refill container was WAY TOO CONCENTRATED. So I put in about ONE PART REFILL AND 7 PARTS WATER - now it works perfectly.
What if you can't get the top off. I ran it under hot water which did loosen the pump part and some bubbles came out but I can undo the top to put more soap in. I'd hate to have to throw the whole dispenser out. Thanks!
Since hand sanitizer became scarce, I started filling a soap dispenser I had with soapy water. I've used it dozens of times since and now inexplicably, it just doesn't work. I took the pump apart and made sure water flowed thru each part easily. But when I put it back in the bottle and push down on it nothing happens. Frustrating.
How about if the top bit comes off from your face wash pump , the bit your finger pumps down? Mine has come off and no matter how i push it down , it never clicks in meaning i can't use my face wash . Do you have a solution ?
I am guessing some air gets in there the pump can't pump it as well and not enough to push the thicker lotion. The water is thinner and flushes it all out. Just a guess.

I am guessing some air gets in there the pump can't pump it as well and not enough to push the thicker lotion. The water is thinner and flushes it all out. Just a guess.
Thanks that makes sense!

Will this work with glue pumps also?
Shrug. You can try it.
Damn, it's that easy!? I've already disassembled the entire lotion pump thinking something happened to the spring just to find it was fully intact 😣
RIP I’ve gotten impatient and frustrated and resorted to doing things like that too! Overthinking sucks!
