Brett Kenny was Wally's kryptonite. The one player who could go toe to toe with him in Origin. But together, and with Sterlo feeding them, they became unbeatable. And that doesn't even take in account the other legends around them.
What a find. Rex in full flight during this golden age of footie. Rex was a customer in my business on Sydney Road Balgowlah and a true gent with lots of great recollections. Terrific to see all the icons of footy in this game
@J G soccer is played by girls who dive.....in Australia it will always be a third rate televised sport.... get used to it. ruclips.net/video/_AhkpOf6nSo/видео.html
The Greatest Kangaroo backline, Ever. Case closed, case re-opened, and case closed Again. Kenny, Kenny Kenny, what a Champion he was, should be an Immortal.
Kangaroo tours were the pinnacle of the sport. I can remember watching matches way back when where the English supporters would stand and applaud Australian tries and skill. It was like they couldn't believe this is how the game could be played.
Wally Lewis was the ''Real Deal'' indeed , fiercely competitive , his ability to control a game was outstanding . Peter Sterling and Jonathan Thurston are the best halfbacks I have ever seen .as for the cages holding the fans in, League and Union fans can behave
sterling feeding lewis and kenny is just magnificent with gene miles or meninga on the end of it. first time ive seen these blokes play a full game and i can appreciate there quality! cant do that watching highlights
GB did themselves in in the first half by trying to play dry weather football inside their own quarter. Still kept it competitive until halfway through second half. Lee Crooks singlehandedly kept it close, great player. Up against the greatest Australian side ever, they did well. I grew up idolizing Lewis so I never paid enough attention to Kenny, every try out wide by Australia, he either thru the last pass or was setting it up in other ways. If Lewis wasn't around Kenny would be an immortal, no doubt about it, the guy could do everything and had great pace. What an era, for GB also, they had 4 players in that side who could walk on to the Aussie side, no problem.
I grew up in Parra in the Kenny, Price, Sterlo, Cronin etc era. I always said Kenny was then and in my book still the greatest “natural” player of the game. His timing, reading and smooth execution just came so naturally to him. Awesome gifted player.
@@iamthebroker his timing in that first Miles try, he straightens up and as soon as Miles's man was turned in he passes it flat, straight on his chest. He's done it a million times, brilliant eyes up player. Lockyer reminded me of him when he was young, that gliding style of running and beautiful soft hands. I think Lewis suited the time a bit better, rough, more solid, but there's a slim piece of paper between them, and it shows how great they both were to play together the way they did on that tour. I was 8 in 86 but I've watched a lot of games from that era, the old NRL site was great, you could watch games from back then, now it sucks.
They were 2 brilliant player's in Thier own right Lewis was more team leader whilst Kenny was individual brilliant he was amazing I was 18 at the time now that's a team of brilliance
Bloody oath mate, shit this is a strong side. Crusher and blocker up the guts and Bobby Lindner backing up. O'Conner and Meninga out wide with the king and sterlo directing. Beautifull.
Sterling, Lewis as the halves combination. Not many been better. It is great to see in this game old fashioned three quarter play with Kenny and Miles combining brilliantly.
Even though GB had some of the best players they've ever had, they just couldn't compete with the Aussie hard men who were just sheer class from 1 to 13. Such a pity the Ashes tours are confined to history now. Snif (((:
So true it was a good time for Australian Rugby league that's for sure this team inspired countless generation's to play the game just take a look at how many star's their are in this team
I'm a rugby union man, but I loved these titanic battles back in the 80's and 90's. It's a real shame that they have let test football wither on the vine. How good was this game, I'll take this over Origin any day.
So great to watch a game of league with so many great players involved, now I just need to watch a hey hey it's Saturday vid and it's a perfect Sat arvo.
The RL days before coconuts with exception of maybe Meninga hardly a single one to be seen. The RL juniors clubs in Sydney were mostly like that as well in the 80s complete opposite now. It was safer sport to play for Junior as well mainly due to not having 15 year olds in a 30 years olds body. Amatuers wanted to enjoy playing the sport not get killed or be decapitated in their child hood or teens.
@@jessiecuster3191 Those are my recollections spoken from heart. I have no interest in your idea of cool or being cool. nrl was no more woke back in days past than than any mans only club, even players thinly veil their prejudices, folua likely isnt cool either according to team woke I am sure most islanders thinking he's still cool. And if we talking about rl in nz completely different always and naturally more pc because was always Maori or islander sport in nz at every level nothing like Australia until last 20 yrs.
Totally agree with everything Rex said about Snozz O'Connor. Always the unsung hero in Tests and Origins. Should have been made an Immortal years ago!!!
Brutal. High tackles and after the tackle stuff galore. This was the first League team I ever followed, converted from Union. Had no recollection how good Gene Miles was. But Cleal. CLEAL!!!!
i know differnet eras but this roos side would eat the current roos side for breakfeast just on the toughness level no inflated egos ,no drugs , no tatoos just raw men god bless you guys
This was the Sunday morning 1 hour replay Rex Mossop would have been involved in the 1986 Melbourne Cup telecast in a link up from the UK with the Kangaroo tourists
Brett Kenny best player ever, didnt that side have the King in it, why wasnt he 6? Because a better player was given 6, he was the God of the Immortals
You would too with Roach, Dowling, Cleal and Niebling waiting in the middle. There is no point in trying to make any headway against that lot. Better to run them round. Good tactic, though not particularly well executed early.
Look at the crowd and compare it to the recent World Cup. It’s such a shame the sport fails to attract this amount of spectators these days, even in Super League.
What's happened to the game, international league is non existent with no interest from Great Britain or France. In 30 years when Murdoch's gone I have to worry if it will survived the pressure from the other more international code of football as it growing like crazy with the kids and now with the women! Lived in Melbourne for a few years and never did I see a one Rugby league field in the suburbs.............it's all AFL cricket and soccer. This brings back memories but at first I could never accept Queensland players deserved a spot in the earlier Kangaroo teams as I thought the Brisbane local competition was inferior to Sydney's. "And Oh how wrong was I" 🤣when they included QLD teams into a national competition and created the state of origin this game was at its pinnacle in the 80s
Kenny with Miles outside him were a brutal combo. My favourite era for football.
Brett Kenny was Wally's kryptonite. The one player who could go toe to toe with him in Origin. But together, and with Sterlo feeding them, they became unbeatable. And that doesn't even take in account the other legends around them.
Facts 👍when Brett Kenny was five eighth for NSW Kenny won 8 out 12 times against Lewis.
Going to watch this at a cigar bar in Monrovia CA in a few hours. Love these games.
Lol. Half your luck. Sounds awesome
What a find. Rex in full flight during this golden age of footie. Rex was a customer in my business on Sydney Road Balgowlah and a true gent with lots of great recollections. Terrific to see all the icons of footy in this game
I remember Rex calling an Amco Cup game one night long ago......and his description of a try conversion as "dissecting" the posts.
Kangaroo tours from 1978 to 1990 were the best, not just for the fact that Australia won but the players in that era are all legends of the game.
I watched those touring aussies on the TV, you have to take your hat off to them, some of the finest rugby teams ever to tour britain in either code.
You know an Australian side is so strong when you have an immortal like Mal Meninga on the bench. 💪🏼
And Terry Lamb
FACTS ^^^

True hard men of the times. I cant believe this was 38 years ago. I remember getting up early to watch it and screaming at the TV.
The Greatest Kangaroo backline, Ever. Case closed, case re-opened, and case closed Again. Kenny, Kenny Kenny, what a Champion he was, should be an Immortal.
minus sterlo
APART FROM THE IMMORTALS OF THE LAST ERA I WOULD HAVE KENNY AS THE FIRST IMMORTAL IN THE NEW ERA
Kangaroo tours were the pinnacle of the sport. I can remember watching matches way back when where the English supporters would stand and applaud Australian tries and skill. It was like they couldn't believe this is how the game could be played.
We couldnt at the time. As the aussies were way fitter than our lads. Plus some were semi pros not full timers.
Wally Lewis was the ''Real Deal'' indeed , fiercely competitive , his ability to control a game was outstanding . Peter Sterling and Jonathan Thurston are the best halfbacks I have ever seen .as for the cages holding the fans in, League and Union fans can behave
Though Johns in his prime was superior
Kenny was better than him
Great to see the amazing representation of the humble Wynnum - Manly club with Wally, Dishead, Bobby and Geno! Champions all!
BRETT KENNY GREATEST BIG MATCH PLAYER I HAVE WITNESSED IN 55 YEARS OF VEIWING THIS GREAT GAME , WHAT A SILKY PLAYER JUST SHEER CLASS
Bertie was the best he could play that bloke he should be an Immortal.
PS The Moose commentating what a legend.
What a game. Thanks for the great work you're doing with these uploads. Love it!
sterling feeding lewis and kenny is just magnificent with gene miles or meninga on the end of it. first time ive seen these blokes play a full game and i can appreciate there quality! cant do that watching highlights
kenny and sterling could be considered immortals honestly there in the same class as lewis at least
Great era of league . Also great to see Sterlo with hair
Best player hull fc ever had in my oppinion
What a game! That was a great era.
A few legends of the game running around here (on both sides)
still till this day, brett kenny smokes lewis in all aspects of the game.

I really miss the days of an inside and outside centre combining
Sterling and Lewis in the halves. What a great pair of rugby league champions.
with kenny at inside centre
Kenny & Miles

Jesus! Do you read what you wrote. Pretty sure Meninga is Aboriginal/ Torres Straight. As for coconuts, not cool man!

When your side is so good that you have Mal Meninga & Terry Lamb on the bench....
ITS MINDBLOWING NOTHING LESS
When you listen to the commentary and Australia is in offense it seems like he is just reading a list of Hall of Famers.
Over the moon when Kev award came to Saints what a player he was.
Lewis, Sterling, Meninga, Lamb geez the team was stacked
Great side 💪
Again, Great Britain puts up a wonderful side. Wonderful for the special olympics.
Winfields cost about $1 a packet back then in oz. About $60 a pack today….
Gene Miles - what a classy ball player!
Oh look real Aussie's.
Hm 😅
Tough looking cobbas
best series ever..yeha from nz
wally the king at the helm, awesome
Side is so stacked smellmefinger on the bench and the great Brett Kenny out of position in the centres.
i had the sticker book with the Australian kangaroos team in it the gum was good to when i was a kid in the 80s
i was too young to appreciate Rex Mossop's commentary in 86 but the dude was good
Not even a huge fan of the sport, but that was amazing. Better days.
When footy was footy..bloody Legends involved here..😛👍
Bega valley. Games
Totally agree with everything Rex said about Snozz O'Connor. Always the unsung hero in Tests and Origins. Should have been made an Immortal years ago!!!
this just made me feel 30 yrs younger. true hard men both sides
The greatest aussie team.of all time respect from a kiwi
Great to hear Rex again....
One of the greatest gamesI have seen.
All these legendary players
Brutal. High tackles and after the tackle stuff galore. This was the first League team I ever followed, converted from Union. Had no recollection how good Gene Miles was. But Cleal. CLEAL!!!!
That last comment ...God forbid !
One of the best RL teams of all time.
What a crowd, love their footy.
What do they want? Honey on their bread…….Thank you Rex………😂
The bloody Pommies were such dirty players back then!!
So many great Aussie players in those days, makes todays game look so boring!!
Played in same school team as Ian Potter - what a player - what an athlete!
I remember watching Potter at the start of his career at Warrington. A tackling machine .
i know differnet eras but this roos side would eat the current roos side for breakfeast just on the toughness level no inflated egos ,no drugs , no tatoos just raw men god bless you guys
Britian beaten by the Convicts 😂🤣
Terry Lamb and Mal Meninga. What a pair of Australian players. SUBSTITUTES?
Super game from Gene Miles
The King leading this great team.
Great to see these matches, but why are we missing the full screen on brave.
When shaved legs weren't in 😂.. the good ol day's.. i was 8yrs old watching this game with my dad... and we are Kiwi's 😏
Crowds in all sports used to be so much more engaged and passionate back in the day. Now everyone are to busy taking selfies
This was the Sunday morning 1 hour replay Rex Mossop would have been involved in the 1986 Melbourne Cup telecast in a link up from the UK with the Kangaroo tourists
The invincible Kangaroos.
Near forgot how great the game use to be ah
What a great Australian side, every name legends.
The good old days , before the Bill Gates era
Australian legends, poor footy though. Modern fields, balls, and training make the game different
What u what Honey on your bread 😂😂 nice vid thanks
Gotta love Rex
Aussies to strong of course..... but,... That Joe Lydon try!!..
when Sterlo the legend had hair
In today’s game, there would have been 10 send offs. Ref is Greg Hartley of steroids.
Hartley was a wanker - he hated Parra 👎
Brett Kenny best player ever, didnt that side have the King in it, why wasnt he 6? Because a better player was given 6, he was the God of the Immortals
The good old days, when the biffo was on and your sponsor was a tobacco company!
and you could take beer to the game.
Where's Tommy Raudonikis???😅
That was a huge right cross from Roycie there
Great Britain kept trying to push the ball wide from the start of the tackle count....madness.
You would too with Roach, Dowling, Cleal and Niebling waiting in the middle. There is no point in trying to make any headway against that lot. Better to run them round. Good tactic, though not particularly well executed early.
Why does he insist on calling them England? Had he not looked at the tour schedule?
Need bring this back Australia v Great Britain , could be one sided a couple of times but would only make English game better , (st helens fan 👍)
Rex Mossop is the worst commentator I can remember in 54 years
I tried. I couldn't get through the commentary.
Look at the crowd and compare it to the recent World Cup. It’s such a shame the sport fails to attract this amount of spectators these days, even in Super League.
My fav rugby try ever is lydon's in either code
Rascanyaroo the blunder of a referee
Toughest forward pack you will ever see!😂
What a load of BS! The game is played in a few towns in England. They were playing amateurs at best semi professionals.
Another great touring side, still think the 82 one was the better squad
What's happened to the game, international league is non existent with no interest from Great Britain or France.
In 30 years when Murdoch's gone I have to worry if it will survived the pressure from the other more international code of football as it growing like crazy with the kids and now with the women!

Gt Britain not England!
This was when men were men.
Second try set up by the King.
The good 'ole days when you could smoke a cigarette while playing Rugby League.
Maybe but its definately counter to the fitness required for playing RL.
i coulda scored that try, and i cant run
Real scrums!
Sterlo....WITH HAIR!!!
The Winfield Kangaroos that's awesome
