    I was at this game as a 14yr old... I'm telling you now, this was the highest quality football ever played! Both teams were off the scale talent wise... As tense as you get with a heart breaking finish (if you're British).

    Ridiculous that they don't play Ashes series anymore, one of the things people outside the sport recognise about it

      Well the balls are made a bit differently, and long range shots from 50 meters and such were a lot more common than today

    The Poms won the first Test, and looked like winning the Ashes at home for the first time since 1959. Then Tricky stood up.

    What a game this was to watch back then. Broke my heart as a pom, but just brilliant footy. We had pretty decent side then, just not good enough.

    If ever the 'Roos needed the boot of Snozz O'Connor, it was in this match. (Smell-Me-Finger had a shocka with his attempts at goal)

    Meninga had the afterburners on chasing Ricky Stuart at the end there.
    God help anyone in front of him when he got that ball, he was full tilt.

      @nikolaucznaum4312 no he didn't.
      He used his shoulder, not his hands to push foe position.

      @@bornyesterday1895 No, it is not legal, you can't interfere with a competitor who does not have the ball!!...

    • @bornyesterday1895

      @nikolaucznaum4312 wrong.
      When chasing the play, you can shoulder players out of the way if they are competing for the same running line.
      He did not trip him, nor push with his hands, but shouldered him out of the way when they were both competing for the same spot on the field.
      Perfectly legal.
      Check the rules.
      Otherwise, it could equally be said the defender interfered with a support player, and if not shouldered out of the way, would have taken him out of play.
      Shouldering someone in that situation is legal...... Australia had the ball, not England. Did the English defender impede the running line of a support player?
      Play on..
      Fair try
