    Fun fact about the hunter seeker droid, in the beta of tiberian sun there was another module for the GDI Advanced Comms tower/GDI Upgrade centre, the Threat Rating Node, which affected what your units and base defenses chose to automatically engage (to prioritize the biggest threats rather than the first enemy it sees), it even affected the hunter seeker droid. Without a threat rating node installed the hunter seeker would just attack a random unit that wasn't yours, it was even known to target civilians!
    The threat rating node was cut so late in development (though still present in the game's files) that the hunter seeker droid wasn't changed accordingly so it still attacked civilians in unpatched versions of tiberian sun. xD

    • @Archangelglenn
      @Archangelglenn Год назад +2

      Yep. I on multiple occasions had to begin blowing up non-Nod structures and other things on maps whenever I played a skirmish as the Hunter Seeker drone was never available during normal play. It was very annoying to see happening in front of me.

    • @stylesrj
      @stylesrj Год назад +2

      Didn't the Threat Rating Node get repurposed as a Drop Pod Command but it also retained its original Threat Rating Node capabilities since they were not taken out or something?

    • @Toast_94
      @Toast_94 Год назад +3

      @@stylesrj The Drop Pod Command only reused the voxel, it does not contain any of the cut TRN's functionality.
      TRN remains in the game's files as a seperate entry so if you edit the files to reenable it you can build them both. Part of why it was cut was because it was bugged, if you destroyed it the units targeting behaviour didn't revert to normal.

      Considering how those games didn't make you lose the tech tree if you sold the tech centre after building it... (unless you lost the other facilities) I wouldn't see that as an issue :D

    • @DogukanGulorenMusic
      @DogukanGulorenMusic Год назад +18

      I believe this is the correct answer since you can observe repair facilites on Renegade. When a repair is in process you can see energy beams very similar to the ones that can be "fired" with a gizmo repair gun coming out of the building and reaching to the repaired vehicle. So it appears to be an automated version of the same technology.

    My theory for the repair pad is it uses the same technology that the engineer repair guns use in Renegade, and those repair guns could also date back to the Tesla Coil technology used in Red Alert, similar to the power plant functionality. My guess would be that the vehicle drives on top of the pad, and the repairs were done by full automation of repair beams from underneath the vehicle. In Red Alert, the repairs were probably done by a crew who are controlling the beams by analog. In Tiberium Sun, the system is probably the same as Tiberium Dawn's, except the crane arm is deployed to probably hold a vehicle in place so the beams could work on them easier. This would make sense with the mechanized units that walk onto it.

  • @kennycai8695
    @kennycai8695 Год назад +2

    Speculation on my part, but I have a hunch that the Adaptive Armor used by the Steel Talons may have been inspired in part by the Iron Curtain technology deployed by the Soviets, though I guess with the passing of time, some of the secrets were lost.
    In the abridged version, the Iron Curtain harnesses kinetic energy to render mechanical units (vehicles or structures) invulnerable until the energy was expended. Considering that Russia was aligned with GDI in the First Tiberian War, they must have offered up intelligence from the Soviet era to GDI, although the notes would not be unearthed until near the end of the Second Tiberian War. By this point, some of the secrets of the Iron Curtain were definitely lost, considering how differently adaptive armor behaved. The kinetic energy theory used to protect vehicles is still in use, but unlike the Soviets, the Steel Talons are unable to render their vehicles completely invulnerable.
    Again, this is speculation on my part, so take it as you will.

    My assumption on the function of the Repair-Pad, especially due to the use of electronics directly under the pad, is intelligent nanomaterial. The circuitry sends electric impulses into the vehicle, which activates some kind of self-repair subroutine of the onboard computers. Presumably, this requires more juice than the engine could produce, which is why it needs to be on a yard. I mean in the third Tiberium War, we know they used nano-assemblers for construction-work in their cranes. Using them as a means of reparation as a first attempt is not so unreasonable.

    (RA2 being my childhood game) and your videos are really informative of other CnC games that westwood made like the Tiberian series and other CnC games that i have not played. I got into Mental Omega because i got bored of playing too much YR and what's really cool about watching your videos is when i see the original or inspiration of a Mental Omega unit or structure
    like they have a Titan walker but it's name is Cyclops and a Sonic tank called Shadray your videos are very cool to watch👍

    Wait, you can sell vehicles on the repair facility? I thought that was a bug, rather than a feature.

    Maybe the flooring of the repair structure is composed of some kind of nanobite membrane that can replicate and replace the vehicle piece by piece.

    This is the one thing I didn't appreciate about C&C 3, the throwing out of everything from TS. I know some of the units came back in expansions but the modular approach to technology made even more sense in 3 than 2 due to even more environmental damage.

    Really love the modular design of GDI structures in Tiberian Sun and Firestorm. Sadly they're never seen in later games.
    And I always laugh at them for still using the "fuel-steam-electricity" power-generation, despite Tiberium directly radiants tremedous amount of energy and can be used as the power source for sci-fi RTG.

    Does it mean he'll turn his eye on the Red Alert one ?
    More technically Mental Omega ?

    2:19 Pretty much like China's Nuclear Reactors in Generals...
    4:22 They're actually called Shock Troopers...
    7:22 Yeah, we're gonna have to say the same for the WW2 Service Depot...
    14:04 Yeah... Say you deploy one to destroy that Missile Silo about to launch, but then the droid's AI says *"Screw you! "* and it targets a random Power Plant instead and I'mma be like "What the f🐬k. 😑"
    22:18 *NOPE!* Don't need it or its Nod counterpart, the Air Support Tower... If it can't replace downed aircraft, what use are you?
    24:26 Just like how some Juggernauts peck the ground with their cannons like chickens when idle... *I CAN'T EXPLAIN THAT!* Why is the Crane's arm dancing sometimes!?

    Fun fact: there is one way to stop a hunter seeker drone (its also a method that can be used to stop nod missiles too).
    When i use to play gdi skirmish i would use rhe fire storm defense system to destroy any missles or drones that approached. It was tricky but with the right setup, a sensor relay vehicle, and awareness you could activate the firestorm just as the drones or missles approach and it will collide with the firestorm energy barrier and be destroyed without it damaging other buildings or releasing tiberium (if chem missile) .
    This method would take away nods superweapon advantage giving you morr time to prepare without being hassled by nod.
    Sadly i wish nod had a way to neutralize gdis drone ans ion canon. Even with stealth systems the drones will alway find you and the ai will always know where to strike. Wish they made the stealth aystem more effective in the game like they did in generals or atleast give nod a superdefense weapon like gdi firestorm wall. (I know on 3 nod does but its part of the main story and isnr something you can build.

    Hi, know that I am French and I love your videos, even in English, with the auto subtitles, this allows me to admire the work you are doing on this license which is just... Incredible... Would be Is it possible that in the future, you will have the videos translated into French with real subtitles? Otherwise, continue your quality videos 😁
    Oh and you didn't specify that for sonic repulsion fields, you can't put them on the power stations... Which makes them more vulnerable (it's the same for the Nod lazer field

    Sorry if this was mentioned already but if I had to take a guess on the repair facility perhaps that circuitry in the facility is not the repair system itself perhaps it's a type of power source for nano machines that are used to repair the vehicle through a few colonies of nano assemblers

  • @SirArtanis7

    For the fist repair facility, the only thing I can think of for a repair pad to do that is Nano machines. Though I can't help but think it's a little backwards to go from Nanomachines back to robots

    Have you ever thought of doing a video on the Red Alert franchise? The buildings, the units, etc.
    Or perhaps for once... Just once, Tiberian Twilight. I mean, it's still part of the Command and Conquer Franchise and I for one have not ever forgotten the whole thing and everything about it. Just once, let Tiberian Twilight be part of this.

    I wonder of the repair pad was supposed to lower vehicles down to an underground facility judging by its construction animation having the platform.
    Perhaps they couldn't get the unit model to properly lower on the pad due to graphical limitations.

    • @Jethild
      @Jethild  Год назад

      That was one of the things I had thought was that the vehicle was meant to be taken underground, but like you said graphic/engine limitations made it so that it had to be kept on the surface.
      There's also the fact that you can sell the vehicle on the pad, so from a gameplay perspective you probably couldn't sell it from underground. Or at least, you'd have to wait for the repairs to finish and for it to return to the surface before selling.

      I think the games go back and forth and whether or not it can be done or it being a "bug" because even though you get the green sell icon, sometimes the patches are like "We didn't want that to happen! You can't sell vehicles on the pad!"
