As I’m trying to get things ready for this weekend camping trip I tried to lift my pop up camper and it was so hard to lift it wouldn’t turn, after looking around and taking off the bottom plate to look at the thrust bearing I noticed I can see the bearing balls and no grease in it. We just bought the pop up😢I have the 6311 system so I just ordered the thrust bearing from you😀 I did spay lubricant in the bearing to get the pop up to work again till the new bearing comes in so our weekend not ruined. I have a 1995 Coleman destiny Stony Creek. I have replaced the cables as one busted in a storm. It's always been extremely hard to lift so I figured I would take a look at the gears in the box. Come to find out the box is upside down. There's no telling what else is wrong. I'm trying to take it apart so I can look at everything and I can't get the pin that attaches the whiffletree to the crank out. I've spent about 3 hours in the dark. Is there an easy way of getting this thing out? Thank you so much for all of your helpful videos!
Thank you for your time and the video, was wondering if you knew what type of lift system is used on my 2016 Starcraft RT 10 pop-up trailer.......one corner won’t come down all the way (comes to rest about 1-1.5” from being all the way down).......the metal cable is slack.......and if you know what might cause that, I would very much appreciate it.......thank you again.......
So sorry Richard, but I am not familiar enough with StarCraft's at this time to answer your question. Perhaps someone else in the community can assist with this question?
I have a 1991 Coleman Roanoke it raises about 8 inches. I’m sure this has been answered but what do I do to fix this system? The one I have appears to have cables. It gets really hard to crank after about 8 inches of lift. Any help would be greatly appreciated on parts or how to fix. Thank you in advance for the reply!
Thank you for the video - - - I have a 2001 coleman pop up camper. While cranking the roof down I heard a loud "crack" and the roof crashed down all at once. The crank doesn't lift or lower the roof at all now. There is no resistance at all when I crank it. Any help on this situation?
So with that copper spacer you can still line up the 2 holes for the thrust bearing and whiffletree rod?. If so then why doesn't it come with the 3000 crank assembly. Now have to wait another week to get that when an all new one should work without it, therefore putting more stress on me and the wife to get this done in a week.
I love the videos! My dad and I are repairing our camper. It is 1998 Coleman Fleetwood bayside waist level crank. Our issue is a slack chain when lowering. The thrust nut and bearing and whiffle has too much play causing the slack. The thrust nut and bearing look good but I cannot figure out what is missing to hold them in place in the case. Could you explain?
Brad, I would recommend adding some tension to the chain first. You may need to remove a link, or add a half link. The chain should be just about as tight as a bicycle chain is. The lower drive assembly should not have that much play in it. I would also recommend taking a look at the front couple of bushing that the whiffle tree rides in.
@@popupcamperpro Thank you for responding! I was thinking about tightening the chain but then the thrust nut would rub on the upper portion of the hole opening in the frame. How is it suppose to stay centered?
@@popupcamperpro I found the issue! the retainer around the thrust nut and bearing was placed on upside down. This caused the thrust nut to be able to slide upwards around 1/2" leaving slack in the chain and binding / skipping when lowering.!
My sister in law has a Fleetwood E1 2007 and there is no problem vinding it up buy it is very stiff lowering it down, do you have any idea what could be the cause of that?
Hi. My Coleman is called a cedar model. Do you know what type of bearing it uses? It is very hard to crank to lift it up. I bought the camper used and I don’t know if the lift system has ever been maintenanced either. Does replacing the bearing fix crank issues or is it a combination of new bearing plus maintenance?
I have the second thrust bearing. We trying to connect the new kit, the coupler is about a half inch short to the threaded rod of the whiffle tree. Is there a easy solution to pull the rod back to align the hole for the shear pin?
Hello again Cheri! You may have missed my previous reply. You can use a come along or table vise to pull the tree back slightly. Loosening the cables can do it as well.
1991 Coleman Chesapeake #2593 our shaft where the crank handle goes is solid and has a pin sticking out on both sides to attach the crank handle. We have the chain driven system and it make a loud popping noise when being raised what can this be? How do we repair?
Lisa, I would begin with an inspection of the chain and the gears. The chain should be in good flexible condition, and the gears not worn. The tighten of the chain is similar to what you would find on a bicycle. A failing thrust bearing can also cause issues like this. The chain may be takin more force than it is designed to handle. I hope this is helpful!
We have a 1996 Coleman Fleetwood Sun valley camper. We are trying to replace the thrust bearing because of the hammering sound and how hard it is to crank. We've taken the back off and grinded off the crank assembly, but we cannot seem to take the crank assembly apart. Is there a way to do this to replace just the thrust bearing or do we just need to replace the whole crank assembly?
From my research on your site, the replacement would be the 6601 crank. And since we have 24 teeth on our gear and the replacement is 22 teeth, does that mean we would have to replace the chain too? So thankful for your site and videos!! They are all so helpful!!
Sorry, more questions :) is the thrust bearing in the crank assembly, so replacing the crank assembly could fix our problem? And would we also need to replace the lower gear the chain attaches to?
Your thrust bearing is just before the whiffle tree. See page 7 of your parts book free on my site. Remove the chain, then unpin the tree to service the bearing. Find the written instructions under INSTRUCTIONS and CONVENTIONAL LIFT SYSTEM REPAIR MANUAL on colemanpopupparts.com as well. You’ve got this Rachelle!
2007 E3 If the pawl will not align with the cog could it possibly be a worn out thrust bearing? I could see very thin pieces of metal about the size of a thin wire, trying to come out on the backside of the hole where the whiffletree is inserted. I wish I could post a pic here.
That’s definitely an issue, but likely not the entire issue. For the paw to be out of alignment with the gear, typically the drive hub tube is not completely compressed.
acforhim1 I would remove the crank, and first check / replace the thrust bearing. Inspect the threads in the drive tube, and drive shaft next. If damage exist, replace those components or the complete assembly.

It's for compression clutch release systems LK B. They have a clutch pad inside of them that needs to stay dry. If this is your system and you have greased it, you will want to remove as much as possible from the clutch pad. Spray brake cleaner works well.
