The issue with Zinchenko isn’t that he loses the ball, or that he loses it too much. The issue is where he loses it, the time of the game he often loses it (especially towards the end of the game when we’re cruising or protecting a lead), and the consequences of him losing it (concede a goal or place us under unnecessary pressure). We’ve seen this many, many times and people have started to fixate on it because of how often we’ve seen it. Partey also loses balls, but because they are in the middle of the field, which is often congested, the consequences are often minimal. Zinny losing the ball high up the pitch with no cover behind him, or on the edge of the 18 leading to a direct attack on goal IS a problem
@@RoryTalksFootball unfortunately, he did. I can remember 2 examples off the top of my head. The first was that Uber casual freekick he tried to chip into the middle of the pitch that went straight to a Luton player and they immediately attacked. The second was up by the left touchline in zone 10 (upper middle third) and Luton immediately broke the other way. Trossard and Zinny were in the same space so Gabriel was forced out wide to cover, leaving his position vacant
The solution may just be to advance Zinny to a midfield role as part of a double pivot. I think his ambitious passing and if he can develop a consistent long range shot, would give us better balance. That said, i was so happy to see ESR in that role last night. Big fan (of a man younger than I - the shame), and I hope we will see more of him going forward.
@@adrianpillai6645 a lot of people say that but I don’t think that’s the answer. Zinny flourishes as an addition to the midfield, not as a midfielder himself. He doesn’t have the physical attributes or robustness required to engage in frequent duels, both aerially and on the ground, and he also lacks the pace to help spring or advance a counter. Zinny is a bridge player between the first and second phase, who occasionally pops up in the third phase to provide an overload. Asking him to actually play in midfield would expose his weaknesses even more, while also making us weaker in attacking transitions. What Zinny needs is to check his emotions, be a more assured tackler, not be too casual on the ball when we’re ahead late in games, and know when to be risk averse. He can play in the midfield in domestic cup games where we’re not worried about getting smoked on the counter, or in games where the opponent doesn’t have a duelling monster like Onana, Endo, Bruno Guimaraes, or Caicedo in the middle of the pitch. Otherwise, good luck
I was watching on tv and when the Arsenal game finished i switched over to the City game the drop in noise was actually crazy, I had to check if I’d turned the sound down 😂
Bogey team Brighton on the weekend. I don't know about you Rory but I want our full squad for that. I'm not sure if we've ever done the double over Brighton
I’d have to disagree re Man of the Match call mate. EMR literally created the first goal with the spoil and as you said essentially assisted the second goal. Had he not been on form, you could argue we may have gone into half time 0-0 which could have turned the game into something entirely different. He dictated pace at the most crucial moment
I also find the dislike of Zinchenko way overstated, but he was very wasteful in possession last night. Not agenda this time imo. With that being said, he has a lot of pressure on him because of the criticism he has received and due to being dropped. He cant play with the same confidence and freedom he usually does. I havent given up on him.
@@RoryTalksFootball Okay, this might be overkill but I went through the game again to see which players were directly at fault for giving away the ball away in a good area for Luton. I thought Zinny was way worse than he was so I believe youre actually right that most of it is down to confirmation bias. He was extremely good in possession and also quite good defensively for most of the game apart from a few lapses. Here are my notes: 16: havertz falls over. Free kick not given which lead to quite a dangerous counter. 25: Trossard plays a cross field pass in our half which is intercepted. Dangerous but well defended. 27: Zinny overcommits on the left side to a slide tackle and concedes a cross into Mpanzu. 33: Gabriel and zinchenko misunderstanding. They left it for eachother. Not sure who is to blame. 38: Zinny passed through the lines from the centre circle. Not dangerous but crowd disgruntled. 40: Zinny loses the ball needlessly on the left side which leads to a counterattack. Gabriel recovers. 43: Smith rowe loses ball in our own half leading to potential counterattack. 45+4: Partey is tackled in our own half. Minute 46: ben white loses the ball trying to cut through lines. Not too dangerous. 52: zinny wins freekick on the halway line. Takes it quickly directly to a luton player leading to a dangerous counter attack. 60: Ben white misplaces a pass on the right side in a very dangerous zone. Luton player snaps it up. Ødegaard commits free kick in a dangerous zone. 73: Zinny was dribbled pass easily just outside penalty area on the left side. Trossard covers for him. Luton gets corner. 74. Zinny is substituted for tomiyasu who doesnt drop into midfield and showed better recovery pace. The rest of the game arsenal doesnt lose the ball in dangerous areas. Honestly its a travesty that every possession lost is counted equally. Ødegaard lost the ball so many times but not once in a dangerous area. So this is how many times each player handed a dangerous situation to luton. Havertz: 1 Trossard: 1 Zinny: 2 Partey: 1 Ben White: 2 Smith Rowe: 1
You can tell the injuries have made Partey lose a step and can’t cover the ground he could early last season so even against mid table teams i don’t think we can play him as a lone 6

I can't believe I've nearly got my Arsenal back. We just need Ian Wright upfront and we'd be there. 😌😅❤️🤍❤️🤍

Yeah full strength for me
We did the double over them in 20/21 season. Beat them on a snowy, rainy day and at home on the last game of the season.
I remember last year when Partey was the back bone of our squad and I think he deserves some respect!

I agree I see him more in the Jorginho role alongside Rice now
Meanwhile Liverpool field a full strength side at home to struggle to beat a team we beat 6-0 away
