I'm getting 48-49 second lap times on the stopwatch here on my laptop. That's about how fast they were running in 2001's Daytona 500 on old tires in a pack. I'd say this is working out better than I thought it would overall. From the looks of this, there seems to be a lot of shuffling around and lead changes, drivers getting runs, falling back, coming back through the field again. I like it. Seeing videos like this reminds me of the good ol NASCAR Preseason Thunder days!

Will be curious if this was testing bump drafting or not. Drivers tend to push it alot harder with a checkered flag waving in the wind. Alot about this car won't be known till mid season and next season. As the teams start making there set up tweaks and find what driver and car want/like.
Every time with the previous car nascar would make a change to slow the cars down the teams would find speed in other ways.

@Yaha Ha I love f1 and v8 supercars in Australia. Just give the entire season a chance. There are some very boring races, ( this is coming from a lifelong nascar fan). Some tracks are raced twice a year. Daytona, talladega, Martinsville, and I believe Bristol is still twice. Daytona and talladega and must watch races, always amazing. Bristol and Martinsville are short tracks, about .5 a mile long but good rough racing. Nascar has added more road courses which are fun to watch, (reminds me alot of v8 supercar racing in Australia.) There are alot of unknowns this year but with the new cars the 1.5 mile tracks maybe more fun to watch. In the past they have been extremely boring.

with how fast these cars look, it gives me the same feeling of watching a pack race but with the speeds of the 70s/80s cars, before pack racing was introduced. This could be more exciting but I hope the speeds are increased to at least 190 before the 500

Guys look like they can get runs when they get them and and move around in the pack. The drivers don't appear to be tied down to the unstableness of the cars and they can fall back and make their way back to the front. It feels like Daytona 18-21 years ago, where the aero package allowed drivers to have lead changes. Look at the #45 of Kurt Busch in that footage, he gets shuffled back but Hamlin picks him up and pushes him right to the front. Handling is going to be a big factor much moreso this year. This stuff looks exciting though.
