    These 2 designers are among my favorites. I'm more excited about this one than Tekhenu or Tabannusi. This reminds me a bit of Newton or Marco Polo (2 games I love), but doesn't look to be as tight - looks like it's more about comboing bonuses to get big turns, which I think could be a lot of fun.

    Thanks for the tutorial!
    The game definitely looks less boring than what I initially thought based purely on the look of the board 😅
    It looks like some turns can get pretty long though: I get 4 merchants actions, 1 of them gives me a bonus tile with 3 architects actions, one of them gives me character actions, I put a character in a house and that gives me something else etc. As much as I love combos, I'm afraid this can be a bit boring for the other players.
    On the other end of the spectrum: I gain X ressources and move Y spaces on the king track. Done 😎

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  Год назад

      It's true that turns can go long, but during that time everyone else can be hunting for their own combos as well. Perhaps coming up with multiple plans if their main idea gets taken out by a previous player.

    Thank you for this great tutorial, I've watched your three tutorials (Boonlake, Wiscounts of the West Kingdom, and this one) if I have to put them into an order, the order would be like
    1) Boonlake (I understood the game thoroughly)
    2) Tiletum ( still did not get some rules and how they apply like how we use these bonus tiles during these actions like you do character action during merchant action with bonus tiles or something)
    3) Viscounts of the west kingdom ( totally missed dismiss action and card play )
    I might say maybe it is because of this game or it's because of me but in the end
    Pushing forward to get watching new tutorials

    Thank you Jon for another great playthrough.
    I can definitely see the history of the 2 designer in the game:
    - Marco Polo with the movement on the map
    - Grand Austria Hotel for the characters to put inside the house
    - Maharaja with the fair
    - The King track is present in many of Luciani games (grand Austria Hotel again)
    - Trismegistus/Tekhenu for the dice/resource selection.
    - The tasks free action and the comboing in general, again, remind me of GAH as the power of the action in the roundell.
    All in all it looks great, not too tight and with different strategies, that of course could be influenced by the fair bonus tiles.
    Great variability for the bonus tokens, the cities for the fair with their bonuse and eventually the random action token.
    It looks like the CV of their career :)

    Thank you Jon for another great video ! Would you consider adding a section dwelling on how the game plays at various player counts ? In this particular case, it seems that lot of locations on the map would not get bonus tiles at 2-players, so it might be a significantly different experience at 2 vs 3+ players (?)

    CORRECTIONS:
    5:39 - I misspoke. The new player order will be from the right to the left. This will be explained correctly later in the video.
    6:15 - Note: You may pay 2 gold to add or subtract 1 to a chosen die as many times as you like. This changes the die face, which means the resources action type (and number), and bonus tiles options will change. I will not demonstrate this in the tutorial.

    • @orlan3bgamer
      @orlan3bgamer Год назад

      By any chance , did you forget the rule of spending 2 golds to change +1 /-1 the value of a die chosen? I want to know if it is a recently rule added, or and old rule that doesnt exist anymore!

    It's funny, when I first saw this game, I was interested, but thought it was too dry, except I did like the Orlean like map and the dice management.
    Eventually, I decided to give it a pass. It was sold out, so it was a mute decision anyways. A month later, I'm in my Board Game store, with a $45 credit and there it was. Upon impulse, I picked it up.
    First time setting up is daunting, with 8 pages dedicated to the task. I found it a heavy task at first to go through the first move, but it quickly ramps up speed on subsequent moves.
    I like it, so far.

    Looks really cool. As a game anyway. I know it's _deliberately_ going for the beige euro aesthetic, but that's still a boring board. It looked better close up though, so that might be the camera making it worse than it is?

    Hey Jon, at 28:40 you could go exactly as the next player. You could take the joker action and grab 6 resources instead of 4. Additionally you would have denied that bonus action and tile from the opponents. All in all you would end up with 6 black or 6 gray resources and 4 companion actions instead of 4 iron and 3 actions. That seems way more beneficial unless at that point you saw better opportunity to capitalise on whooping 8 iron you gathered.
