I think that the main reason for changing the Yoda puppet to CGI was just because the puppet looked like crap compared to the original Empire puppet and the AotC/RotS CG model

As a kid I always wondered why the yoda puppet looked worse. Does anyone know why the episode 1 puppet looked so bad? Did we regress in our puppet making technology since the early eighties?

***** Although that could be a cool explanation, it's very clearly not the same puppet. The head shape is vastly different, and the skin color is very strange as well.

The pulled back shot of the trade federation goons looking at a TV happened so you can tell its a screen.
In the original it looks a lot like they are looking down a hallway with a force-field.
The extra perspective and the scan lines becoming horizontal instead of circular makes it clear that they are looking at a screen.

More changes to Attack of the Clones: In Jengo's last scene, a spark and puff of smoke were added to show he tried to fly away, but being trampled broke his rocket pack. After being decapitated, Jengo's helmet goes rolling on the ground. A shadow was added to the right implying his head went rolling off the screen. Neither of these were in the theatrical release.

I'll say this when it comes to CGI Yoda in The Phantom Menace: it's easily the best looking version out of all the Prequels. Since they already used a puppet, the animators already knew where the light was going to fall. There's less of a disconnect that usually comes with totally CGI characters.

I have to disagree on the Puppet Yoda. If they used the original (or duplicated the original, as i don't know if Lucasfilm has the old Yoda) i would be 100% on board. No brain that is a key scene. First off you don't have to like it. But it is an accurate portrayal off how a kid ( he is 15 ) who has psychological problems acts like in top of the fact he also had a shelter life which kind of makes him naive and some what spoiled. Just search RUclips videos of spoiled kids acting up they don't act any different. Anyways it also sets him up to the beginning stage to the path of a killer. Most killers kill animals as their first step and as he says that's what the Tuskan raiders where to him animals. The scene has deep undertones that people don't get.
I prefer that over a 29 year old emo acting up for no reason at all. Followed by a comedic scene that reminds me of spaceballs...

I distinctly remember a line in the theatrical version of RoTS that doesn't appear on any home media, and that somehow even the internet doesn't talk much about. al112v5 That's the thing every one wanted something that would not fit with Darth Vader. The only reason critics don't like Anakin was because they wanted a hero with smooth james deen qualities considering that Darth was always a lacky wouldn't work to write him that way.
Why I can't prefer the emo is because there is no motivation for him to that way out side of a terrible script writer that wanted to copy both Darth Vader from the prequels and the OT. I would be surprise if Jar Jar abrams has an ounce of creativity. The next writer has such a hard job to do considering TFA sets the next movie to be an inevitable 2nd reroot.

The easy answer is that George Lucas is a moron. That's not really true - he's actually quite intelligent. The better answer is because an artist is never truly satisfied with his work. That's what George is doing, he's playing with things to show more ideas that he's come up with, or regretted not doing, or what have you.
Is it right? I don't know. They are his movies so to a point yeah, but I also agree that it's a disservice to the fans and what they have come to enjoy.
There are plenty of movies that have directors cuts produced later that make the movie much better, much more interesting, more insightful. I don't think any of these changes have done that, but the point is -we like it in some, but not in others.

    • @davidv4018
      @davidv4018 5 лет назад

He can do what he want if the work is entirelly his. But even if you write, direct, produce and edit the movie; there shall be still plenty of artists working with you in the product. So, i don't think he can change their work. And he only wrote and direct the prequels, no the OT: even episode iv was done with an immense ammount of help of other people, like the editing team (which saved the movie).
Lucas is a genious, but there is no excuse to change a piece of work, and not allowing people to have the original stuff (in any legal way)

    • @SpeedyBlur2000

The reason that shot at 1:42 becomes wider for its subsequent release is because the original shot gives the impression that Nute and (Rune, you say?) are looking down a hallway.
But they aren't, they're supposed to be watching the video-surveillance live-feed on their CCTV display.
The updated shot is better because we can more easily tell that it's a screen-monitor.
This visual is made even more concrete with the (basically black & white) monotone and static (which, without having seen this picture in motion rather than a video still image, appears to be modeled after the classic VHS-tracking-adjust lines, perhaps?)
