Remove wires from Molex connector

  • Simple video showing how to use a paperclip to remove the wires from a Molex connector. All you need to do is find a small, sturdy, "rod" that you can depress two tabs that keep each wire from coming out of the connector. I had success with an oversized paper clip, but this isn't the ideal method if you want to re-insert the wires back into the connector later. For this, I recommend using a power supply modding tool (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001...) we can help you not destroy the tips of the wires in the process of removal.
    Thanks! Hope it helped.

Even though this may be a bit of a hack job, it saved me a lot of stress and money from trying to aquire the removal tool. I removed that stupid Berg/Mini-Molex connector from my PSU doing this.

Is there a way to uncrimp the wire? How do I remove the steel pins of the wire that are crimped without damaging it?

to help general movement of the Rubber seal and the wires you can use a little penetrating oil like WD-40 which will lubricate things and also it displaces water as well

The correct tool is a thin blade, causes less damage to the locking tang.

AAArgh! buy the tool. high resistance equals fire. Trust me I've seen hack jobs that have almost burned down buildings and destroyed 100K + machines. Ten bucks and a little practice is a small price to pay. Your customers wont thank you because they'll never know.

Yup, if this is your business, buy the tool. If you're just a person at home who needs a couple removed, this works fine. Noting that this is NOT intended to be for re-installation. And these are not high voltage,, typically 12VDC, nor high current connectors.

Really old comment, I know, but if someone stumbles upon this I want to spread the info: You do NOT need a special tool! You can take the ink tube from a non-clicker ballpoint pen and use that!

Yes, that makes it easier for the male pins. For the female inserts you're back to a specialized tool or some such...
