Al is an Oxford uni history graduate, his history knowledge is encyclopedic.
Not only that: while in University he was part of the Oxford Revue, a comedic group born in the 1950s that can claim to have had some very big names in its folds, names such as Michael Palin and Terry Jones (who became 1/3 of the Monty Python), Rowan Atkinson, and Dame Maggie Smith.
Yes, but of course the very funny thing is a pub landlord showing such erudition 😂
My favourite part of Al Murrays gigs is the first half where he gets to know members of the audience and riffs on their jobs, it's all freestyle and so clever.
Agreed! It's arguably one of the best parts of his live shows and the reactors never see it because compilations always cut it 😢
Check out Paul smith, his routine is based heavily on that concept
@@johnny5slittleuniverse126 Paul Smith is funny always get a laugh from him
When he found a landlord with his pub's name on his shirt the 'far canal' - I don't think I'll ever forget.
The Pub Landlord is Al Murray's comedic persona, Al is a History Graduate from Oxford University, so, as you say, he's a very smart man and funny.
Glad you're discovering British Comedy, it's a big rabbit hole you've fallen into. 👍🤣
Gotta do Al Murray on how global finance works
It's a longer bit, but it is amazingly well done! One of my favorites from any comedian!
Hah the New York section..........
I grew up watching Monty Python, Benny Hill and Dave Allen at Large. They were all hilarious!
Benny Hill is crap.
Al Murray (i.e. the man himself, not any of his characters) is a HUGE history buff, and an exceptionally intelligent guy. I'm not surprised that he's able to do a sketch like this, including accurate dates, even if he has to scrabble around a little bit, to find the logic for "Defeated them" in some cases.
Bravo, chap, pint for yourself and a white wine or fruit-based cocktail for your good lady.
I agree about Mr Bean, he's about as funny as a burning orphanage, but the actor who plays him (Rowan Atkinson) also plays Blackadder, and he is incredibly funny.
Not everyone gets him
Something about Rowan Atkinson, just can't stand the guy.
there's a book from the 16th century that purports to be the comedy of one of the UK's more famous court jesters, and it includes one spectacular anecdote about how he lured beggars into a barn with the promise of free lunch, locked it behind them, and burnt it down. It's amazing how tastes in comedy change
nah, Mr Bean is timeless.
Black Adder season 2 and 3 are the best in my opinion. Many people like season 4 best, which I don't get.
Al is a well educated man, He has a degree in history from Oxford University. The pub landlord is just a character.
"Find a comedian that can educate you, and entertain you at the same time". How true that is. Love from the UK. I had my first George Carlin experience in the early 90's when I would have been 17-19. I was/still am heavily into underground music, and the same sources for white label small pressings of records were also selling comedy tapes (and soon CD's. What a remarkable time. I still feel Carlin had something to do with shaping my younger mind that has had a positive ripple effect on my life. Great reaction, and much love.
Love that you found him.
His act was in itself a paradoxical comedy, because the character he plays is a bigot, thick-minded yet so knowledgeable. It makes it all funnier still. Very well-delivered.
it does make it slightly scary to consider the Landlord as primary source of education though
@BlubberBrother the great thing about al murray is it's incredibly easy to find out his politics as he's fairly political (you should see which politician he made a joke party to oppose, you'll get a kick out of it), and how open he is about how his Pub Landlord is "nothing like him in real life"
it's not him, it's you
@Poopa Scoopa Uuh!
Loads of great British comedy out there, depends what style of it you like.
You Chaps are fun. You get it. Much ♥️ from Norfolk, England. 🤗
*If you fancy an accent challenge, try: Kevin Bridges - If Facebook was a pub*
Aye big kev
Think I'll get a Fredo for that one.
Al takes on the persona of the pub landlord. He has a degree in history from Oxford University.
He is articulate and a historian
Mess with a historian at your peril 🙏
He has a degree in History from Oxford as he is very clever
This is now the 3rd of your videos I've watched. Great stuff. You earned a like and a sub on the first!
You have to see, secretary or nurse by Al Murray. Simply brilliant. You'll love it
I dont even know how I ended up here, (youtube wormhole) but so glad I did, watching you guys's faces is priceless, and yes AL is a very intelligent person with a heart of gold, I have had the pleasure of meeting him on several occasions and even had a couple of beers with him and a chat with no audience around, 100% a genuine guy and behind the boisterous front is a kind and caring gentleman. Just subscribed to your channel, keep the content coming and good luck with your progress. Salute from the UK.
Mrs brown sketch about waxing is the funniest skit I’ve ever watched
try the genius of Dave Allen :::Garden of Eden sketch.
If you want to sample British humour you must try Micky Flanagan - Delhi Belly. Very funny man.
Love you, guys. Subscribed.
Although Al Murray works from a script, to a degree, a lot of the show is him improvising from audience reaction.
Al Murray is a very smart man... and funny as fuck
Truth be told it's fine even if you don't enjoy our comedy. There are loads of British comedians I don't find funny. Lee Evans and Michael McIntyre have some bits worth checking out. I always loved Billy Connolly; he was like a Scottish hippie George Carlin. Peter Kay has some good bits
You might like "Mock the Week - Scenes We'd Like to See." Mock the Week was a weekly 30-minute panel show from the UK featuring 6 different comedians (British also but not exclusively so) riffing on different themes. They finished their final season a few months ago, but just about all 20 seasons are on YT. The "Scenes We'd Like to See" segment was at the end, and entailed the host setting up a theme such as "Things You'd Never Hear in a Horror Movie," and the comedians would take turns coming up with short lines. It's rapid fire and funny as hell!
Don't ever watch mock the week, it's fucking shite
Oh, and it ran for series, not season
Mock the week ? Just a load of leftie tossers moaning about Brexit etc ……….steer well clear of it unless your a Guardian reader
theres a longer video on this, was good to see you watch it :)
American humour is generally zany…British humour is intelligent, ironic and assumes knowledge in some respects.
British comedy is not for lazy people.
I wouldn't worry. I have never understood why some people think that everyone should find the samethings as funny as they do themselves.
Guys… one of the best reaction videos 👏👏
Extremely intelligent guy …. Love his comedy as well 🫡
Gallagher, the guy that smashed watermelons, wasn't British. LOL
Hahahhahahahah... when I was a kid I thought he was British. I just knew his style wasn't like other American comedians. I just looked it up, hes from N.C. Lol
@@tntreactions please react to Dave Allen, Airplanes. It is on the channel Simon Tilley and has over 3.8million view. Dave Allen was a UK legend and was absolutely hilarious. I guarantee you will love it, and will never look at flying on an airplane in the same way again. He takes the most ordinary things and makes you see how ridiculous or hilariously funny they can be. Keep the comedy reactions coming. 🇬🇧😁
@@liverpoollass7600 Technically Dave Allen is Irish... however he lived and performed in the UK and made it big on TV here, so we Brits kinda claim him....his material on the absurdities of catholic doctrine seen through his own eyes as a child is so sharp 👍👍🤣
@@im_sorry_dave5117 Eddie izzard on Church of england is pretty hilarious too 🤣🤣
Brit here. About that war of independence you like so much. There was no U.S. until after that war. Effectively it was mainland brit vs expat brit. We beat ourselves.
Saw him a few months ago at my local theatre,.mans a genius
These are not scripted, it all comes off the cuff which is very hard to do, he is a very intelligent man, his humour can be brutal, but that is classic british comedy
Lee Evens is funny AF also Al Murray all jobs are terrible is good
Comedy always comes, from a position of knowledge, history and, an understanding of present day problems.
So much British comedy, you'll be blown away.
Thankyou for taking the time to listen to our comedy. The best comedy!
At one point in 2015, Al Murray formed his own political party, as Al Murray's Free United Kingdom Party (FUKP). This was done to make a point about certain issues.
When you get to Global Finance, you'll piss yourselves when you hear Al's impressions of Californian and New York stock exchange workers.
Great! I am amazed that you said "wow", when he dropped 1945...
It's great to see you appreciate the persona that is the Al Murray " Pub Landlord" character and agree that a great deal of British humour is at best, an acquired taste. Like you say Mr Bean....can't stand him...but my kids do ! Regrettably, British humour is largely now a sanitised, politically correct shadow of what it used to be. For your further viewing, however, I would recommend checking out the recently deceased and very sadly missed Sean Lock and also Franckie Boyle. Enjoy.
Great video guys. Could I suggest that you may like to watch a British tv program called Would I Lie to you. Wilty is a very popular programs in the UK, in which you have to guess if someone is telling the truth or not. Not always as clear cut as it sounds, particular if a certain Bob Mortimer is taking part. Enjoy
Al murray is a fully trained historian.
There is sort of a magic trick going on here as well. He might have an answer for every country in the world, that is funny and interesting. But more likely what he is doing, is choosing the ones he wants to answer, while the crowd shouts out many different ones. Surely some of his answers are funnier, so he would want to give those the most stage time.
Jimmy Carr
Great British comedian
He Irish No ?
@@michaelrb9837 born in west London, isleworth, I think he classes himself as British Irish
@@jeanneale9257 What’s his blood cause both his parents are Irish do better you Panzy how can he be British with 0 English blood in him 🤡
@@michaelrb9837 he can't be British without English blood ffs read a book
@@jeanneale9257 Irish aren’t British mate simple learn biology a dog born in a stable isn’t a horse is it you mug
My favourite is Billy Connolly. Russel Howard is very funny too.
he started out working as a sound effect for Harry Hill
Micky Flanagan is a must watch for you guys.....He's a natural comedian....but get familiar with the London/Southern English accent first.
You should check out Peter Kay - misheard lyrics and lee evans
You do realise he's a qualified history teacher!
Al murry pub landlord... he was a history teacher 😂❤
i can't wait until you discover Micky Flanagan - personally i'd recommend "The Sh*ts Abroad!" from The Out Out Tour
Al Murray has a degree in history from Oxford University.
You have gotta watch Al on anthems, so funny
Uk comedians I’d suggest would be Micky Flanagan he’s gotta be my favourite but there’s also guys like Romesh Ranganathan, Lee evans, Peter Kay
Yeah , micky Flanagan is brilliant
An historian with sarcasm and a brilliant sense of humour ? Mr Murray is a legend.x great channel and Cheer's 🇬🇧 Edit: try. Not the nine o clock news.. for classic British humour.✓✓✓
He is a historian educated in Oxford
Great reaction as always ... gotta do ... Al Murray - Why Bacon Proves The Existence Of God ... pick version him wearing the white shirt ... also ... Al Murray - How Global Finance Really Works ... interesting American references
The guy that smashes the watermelon is Gallagher, and he is NOT British! He's also hilarious.
Ok - now I understand your comment about British comedy - of all the things you might have watched, Mr Bean is one of the few examples of things that don't make me laugh. I would recommend Micky Flannagan, Billy Connolly (you'll probably need subtitles) and Sarah Millican for starters.
He's actually a history professor. He used this style on his students...Brilliant...
Al Murray does a podcast about WWII stuff with a military historian and if I didn't know his voice I would wonder which one was the historian - he's that knowledgeable. He's a huge history buff in general.
Two other great English commedians worth you checking out are Micky Flanagan (start with Dehli Belly) and Peter Kay (check out Misheard Lyrics). A funny Scottish comedian also worth watching, if you can take some offensive material, is Frankie Boyle (go for Audience Annihilation). Enjoy!
Micky Flanagan is the BEST British comedian,"the French are lazy" "catching a peeper" "Delhi Belly" anything by Micky Flanagan is a sure way to get more subs ✌️
Lol no he's not. Al is much better
Great reaction, guys. I am a new subscriber, and yeh, AL, I WISH he was our Prime Minister. SUPER SMART. Oxford (Harvard) educated. Brilliant character but would teach everyone about how life and the world works.
The Argentine reference was obscured by his 'penguin' reference - the Falklands War of 1982 where the UK defeated the Argentine invasion of the Falkland Islands. They have penguins there.
Love Al Murray , he's brilliant . Have a look at Lee Evans - hilarious .
You need to check out les Dawson, Freddie Starr and Dick Emery
Great reaction you must do his "how global finance works" if you don't laugh all the way through I'll eat my shorts lol
"Big train" is always fun. Being scottish I will say "naked video" or "Chewin the fat" ( but gonna be honest the language barrier would be an issue)
It takes alot to beat British humour, sorry but it's a fact 😊🇬🇧
He's supposed to be a pub landlord who is over-patriotic. So clever! 😂😂😂
You guys are of the very few who gets Al
Maybe try out Michael Macintyre The dentist or having kids
Fair play to you both. We live in a world today where it is very easy to take offence. I give you both a ton of credit for simply posting this and taking it for what it is meant to be.....comedy. Al is one of a kind here in England. We cannot rewrite our past......good or bad.
I'll certainly be looking out for your videos in the future.
God bless 🙌 🙏 ❤️
He has a great podcast (we have ways of making you talk) about the Second World War- not full on comedy but often very funny and also very interesting for anyone into learning more about the war.
He also studied history at Oxford but I think 1 or 2 people may have mentioned that in the chat already… 😂😂😂
Lee Evan's is another GREAT comedian 👍
Try Dave Allen or the two Ronnies, or Jasper Carrott
A classic line from Al Murray is that the British, unlike the Americans don't have a dream (referring to the American dream). The reason being is that the British are awake!!
Btw, I nominate the French for being the least funny people in the World.
Did you know the Great American comedian Bob Hope was born in Kent UK His BRITISH
No I did not know that
@@grindelston5968 do you what, if was still alive he would be Sir Robert Hope God bless him
He's British ( he was British).
Leo Anthony Gallagher Jr., known mononymously as Gallagher, was an American comedian not a British one
‘Every country England has ever invaded, Visualised’ by RealLifeLore, I’m sure you’ll find it really interesting!
Mickey Flanagan is your Man for comedy
React to every country England as ever invaded visualised
If you like risky jokes try Jimmy Carr....'riskiest jokes'
or jimmy carr vs hecklers
I’m British and live in France and I struggle with French comedy.
I agree, Mr. Bean is stupid.
Benny hill was also massive in america
Try Jacques Tati, the great French chap. Bean is a terrible copy.
Al Murray has a history degree from Oxford. I can’t believe you thought all our comedy was like Mr Bean 😂he’s more a comedian for kids. Al Murray, Rhod Gilbert , Russel Kane, Russel Howard, Doc Brown, Sarah Millican, Jack Whitehall, Jon Richardson, Lee Evans, Peter Kay, Catherine Tate, Harry Enfield, Michael McIntyre are all fantastic comedians.
Can I just say, his historical facts were dead on
C’mon Americans, his act is the pub landlord. Americans also have the bar owner who knows everything, and the more he drinks knows more than you. 😀
Hello,The 2 Ronnies, only fools & horses, "Love thy neighbour Eddie returns from holiday" jasper Carrot & peter Kay have a look at all these you will be in stitches & see what the difference is between British and American humour but I don't have anything against American people i love all people who show respect for others have fun😂👍
Hi guys, love al murray, maybe try lee evans when the car breaks down .
Watch lee evans, peter kay, billy Connolly, micky flannigan. All comedy legends from UK
Also a Oxford teacher on history
I would suggest, " Peter Kay - misheard lyrics ", " Rowan Atkinson - The Devil " ,
HAPPY NEW YER!!!!😀😀😀🤘🤘🤘
