I came across this video the day after I was diagnosed with diabetes and cardiac issues, weighing 365 pounds, and actively eating cheez-its while watching it. I’m basically bedridden right now with a blown out L5S1 disc, but after my surgery on the 30th I’m going to start turning my health around. Thanks for the inspirational words, coach.

I met Billy Blanks at an event in Southern Cal where he was signing autographs. This was years after his first Tae Bo tapes which I happened to have. He was a real nice guy and called me sir since I was older than him. His daughter who appears in his videos was standing behind him. He was seated at a table and there was a rope line to meet him and get a signed photo. The Advanced Tae Bo tape will get you in shape if you can get through the whole thing. Even half of it is a great workout. I wish Bill the best. He does seem to care about getting people in shape.

I feel the same way about Tony Horton from p90x. I had never really exercised until 2013 when i started doing Cardio X. I could only make it 15 out of 45 minutes. I've done lots of various programs since then and am now a Blue Belt in BJJ, working out every morning, and eating healthy. Oh also I am no longer suicidally depressed :) Those exercise videos gave me confidence to train with real people :) "do your best and forget the rest"

This legitimately makes me want to try tae bo. I do taekwondo and the one thing that I see myself lacking most is cardio. I'm flexible, I'm coordinated, I can jump, I can break, but after 2 minutes of sparring I am usually completely worn out. I could definitely use a bit more stamina.

I used to do Taebo on a regular basis. I loved it. No, its not a martial art. However, it is a great work out. You get what you put in. I have taken Moo Yea Do, Muay Tai kick boxing, also some training in Jui Jit Su, and Kenpo and boxing. I love Taebo for the energy it gave me used to drive 1 and 1/2 hours to and from from Orange County to Sherman Oaks once a week to take Billy Blanks class. And took a OC class at my Do Jang 4 to 5 times a week. Once you start doing it it becomes part of you. Someone gave me a personal training session with Mr. Blanks. I always had trouble with high kicks. The training session was amazing, Billy was so soft spoken and a true professional on that day and only that day I was able to do the splits. Lol memories last forever. Billy is a wonderful instructor and does have his students best interest at heart.

In the year before the one where I got into Muay Thai, I regularly attended Body Combat aerobics classes at my local gym where I punched and kicked the air while being surrounded by women in yoga pants doing the same thing. I did this because I was a chub and because it was all I had. That might've been embarrassing for me after half a year but I probably wouldn't be throwing punches the way I do now without it.
P.S: I was fully expecting you to call us 'silly' for not getting out there and training at the end of the video

about a year to late, but i decided to loose weight after my birthday (31st of october) and stopped my worst habbit ever. Drinking. (I only drank during christmas and that wasnt like I was used to drink like, that was like a beer or 2 instead of 10..)
Considering im 6'4 and weight around 264 lbs (had to convert that) I decided my perfect weight before having a massive workout schedule would be around 220 lbs.
the first month i lost 11 lbs and that was only due to Tae Bo! I was looking at some cardio workout and thought that taebo, the hype thing from the 90's, would be my perfect workout in the first few months.
at this point (due to calestenics and taebo) I lost 24 pounds (started eating differently aswell) and lost 3 inches around my waist, my arms grew around 1 inch and my legs start to bulk up like they went when i was doing basketball!
I didnt know taebo could do that for me honestly! I still got a few KG's to go (yes yes, im EU ) but I know that with this workout and food intake that i do right now i will finally be released of the 20KG weight i wanted to lose, and with a bit of luck it'll be around june!

Ramsey as I have said before I love your explanations, Tae Bo is a good work out, for a non fighter will give them muscle memory if they ever have to kick or punch may be enough? A non fighter may be able to defend themselves with this to a point or do a kick or punch and get away. As you say for someone who can't afford training who knows I think it would help. Hell it helps teach someone to kick and punch. Be safe looking forwarded to more to more videos

My karate Sensei when I was 4 (35 now) use to tell me about this guy he trained with named Billy Blanks. I didn't think about it much until about 6-10 years later when Tae Bo first came out. By this time my Sensei had left my small town for Hollywood. He actually did pretty well and made it into a few big movies. His best part was as Cristos in the movie Desperado. He had a small part but was the guy that broke the other guys leg with a legit Karate move in the fighting ring scene( easy to find on RUclips, guy was legit and still is). But I remember seeing Billy in the Tae Bo commercials and at that young, full of testosterone age, I was thinking "THIS is the guy my Sensei was talking about? This sissy teaching womens aerobics in tights?...Fast forward a few years later and I got a chance to meet and train with both this time..Billy is made of iron, with crazy fast twitch kicks and punches and a GREAT eye for what moves you're gonna throw so he can counter them..I have pictures and old videos if you wanna know more Ramsey

Hi Ramsey, I love your videos, I was just wondering how many martial arts is too many for a young beginner, and how far I could go in martial arts training as a 13 year old. I really want to get into martial arts like muay Thai, boxing, wrestling, and jiu jitsu but I’m wondering how many of those I could conceivably train at the same time. I’m a pretty developed 13 year old, I’m 5’11, 155 lbs and I weightlift regularly just for a little background information. I’m thinking I could do wrestling as a school sport and in the off season do a couple or all of the rest of those martial arts, but I don’t know if that’s realistic. I also want to know if adults would actually let me light contact spar in their gyms, and whether I would be taken seriously. Thanks for reading this if you are, I really love your Chanel and your videos and I’d be super happy if you maybe answered this in your next Q and A.

This is my personal experience with Tae bo, yes you will not learn to fight but, as all school aerobics and gymnastics work, I had and have at first was an old tape from 1979 the year I was born that my mom use to do every day and I do religiously my mom is close to her 70 but she still touches her feet, can stretch and is a simple tape you can do every day and damn work those glutes, in the same way, the old 90s tapes of Tae bo work great to lose weight, to improve your cardio, are amazing damn you can break a swept really good if you do all them in a row, and you will feel great, I passed all these media to digital and saved it in case the tapes cease to function look you will not learn to fight but you will move, and get a better shape, are not a fully equipped gym but they work, same the old calisthenics and yes thanks to Couch Ramsey I found Championship Fighthing writen by Jack dempsey and Oh my god is a great book, yes I know I normally just do for the laugh comments but I had to say that.

Hey, Ramsey for the last year I've been training Muay Thai, (and the 4 years prior to that I trained Taekwondo), I've just recently had to move and there is no Thai gyms for 125km in any direction. I have however been lucky enough to find a boxing gym 45kms away and have joined it and train there twice a week. Im glad that I have the opportunity to improve my boxing as my kicks are miles ahead of my boxing. Unfortunately I am finding it hard to integrate my boxing into my Muay Thai due to differences in stance/posture/footwork. I have no one to spar with (in kickboxing/Muay Thai), and test out combinations with. So I'm just wondering if you have any ideas or drills that could help me test combinations out while training by myself the days I can't get to boxing?

I think it's worth comparing Tae Bo videos to their contemporaries on how cuts are handled. Cutting in Tae Bo videos always keeps a significant portion of the event visible and in focus. Many of the other fitness videos from the same time frequently cut to close ups of the actor... I mean fitness instructor... with the background figures too blurry to tell if they're even the same people that were in the previous shot. This is clearly not for any suspicious or misleading reasons, and clearly also doesn't give them the opportunity to get their actor... I MEAN INSTRUCTOR... time to take a break and rest before they get sweaty. Nope. Not at all.

This is a bit off topic But as far the idea teaching yourself martial arts goes my mentality is that even though I don't want to discourage anyone by telling them what they do is either useless or would never be applicable in a fight but at the same time I also wouldn't want people who decide to teach themselves martial arts to be lulled into a false sense of security and as a result either put themselves in situations where there in over there heads or where they set themselves up for disapointment while trying to face a trained fighter and posibly end up losing.

Looks like tae bo could be especially suited for cardio and endurance... although on another topic, some isometric exercises can really be dangerous,? and certain injury with little potential reward... like chaining a curling bar to the ground like Bruce Lee, and heard some people that used to do knuckle push ups don't do them anymore... heard something about knuckle push ups and splits being bad for guys hips anyway... and Bruce Lee was super cool, not sure if some of the exercise science sets the best example... and incredible at nunchuck ping pong, and a great warrior... there's always plenty of stuff to keep learning about after 35 like me though...

Hey Ramsey, do you think losing weight or gaining weight is harder for a fight? Lets say that you had to lose 10 pounds, or gain 10 pounds in a course of a month, which would be harder? Or if someone was trying to lose 20 pounds, or gain 20 pounds in a course of 2 months, which would be harder, and so on and so forth. Also, nice hair.

I think that would be a good video for Ramsey to touch on. I always thought aikido was kinda not really a good fighting art but the coachs at my gym who are ex SWAT/combat vets/cage fighters speak very highly of aikido. It always made me wonder.

    • @jamesrowlands1943

@@doctorcaptainalex it always works well, with compliant opponents, or in Steven Seagal movies, but the second your opponent resists a little it all collapses, a video series could be good though aikido vs... could do tae bo first, then other things later?

Hypothetical Question for you Ramsey and this is the perfect video to ask.
Let’s say you took someone like say Mike Tyson he lifted weights, hit the heavy bag like a cardio kickboxing class, has his usual natural sense of aggression and work ethic... So who is more likely to win in a fight, Mike Tyson using strictly Tae Bo vs a classic Wingchun or basically any other contemporary Martial arts guy who goes to class once, twice, maybe three times a week the typical dojo schedule compared to the professional athlete schedule, like Boxers/ Olympic athletes, training 6 to 8 hours a day etc....?

If you are not elderly or sick there is no reason to worry for your own health. The danger from pandemics like this mainly comes from the hysteria and the scary look of control measures like quarantining towns or people walking around in masks.

Hey Ramsey, Deontay Wilder recently fired co coach Mark Breland for throwing in the towel. Have you ever had a conflict between you and your trainees that forced you to part ways? Now stay in there and train.

    • @RamseyDewey
      @RamseyDewey  4 года назад

Not really. About 11 years ago, a guy I coached lost his first fight, blamed me, and joined a different gym. A few years back, there was a girl in my gym who was an absolute drama queen who tried to argue with me and everyone else on every point of coaching until she quit. Those were the most extreme cases. Most of the actual fighters I’ve coached have won the majority of their fights, and most of those that didn’t fixed their mistakes and won the next one. None of them have ever been anywhere near the point where anyone would need to throw in the towel.
