He is one of the very best art instructors that I have found on here, bar none.
Facts!
Church !!!
I am at the beginning of my art journey as my mid-life crisis hobby. For months I have been struggling on where to start, and how to learn it. Finally I have found this guy. He is straightforward and to the point where you do not have to listen to hours of lecture before you can just get down to business and practice the fundamentals. I am going to be all digital, but the fundamentals are all the same and there are some great brushes out there that simulate Ballpoint Pen and Fine Liners for Pen and Ink. I am glad he is still putting up videos. I have also got his book Pen and Ink drawing and plan on getting the workbook to go along with it. Thank you so much and keep up the great work.
I'm so glad to see you posting these type of videos again
I started my sketching journey with your videos and now I'm in architectural school and your videos have helped me a lot to get here.
Also, I can't love anything more than ball pen sketching it's honestly so freeing to not have to perfect everything and still create something beautiful :)
Can I just say that you are a genius in explaining concepts in any easy to follow and easy to understand way that's both helpful and immediately applicable? It's obvious that you have a deep understanding of everything you teach in your videos because you simplify them so well for us. Well done, and thank you for all the lessons.
Brilliant presentation! Love your two books. Can't wait for the third....
Your videos are the most helpful ones I've ever found on drawing
Thank you for these little lessons, you're genuinely and actively helping me fill my sketchbooks
Thank you for this sir ,will u make a series about shading and lighting in the future
Yes definitely
@@alphonsodunn wow that great !!
@@alphonsodunn Yes please.
A great lesson. I've learned so much from your videos and from your books. Thanks!
If you love Alphonso's videos, I highly recommend buying his Pen & Ink Drawing guide and workbook. The workbook is fabulous. It goes over everything you need to know to be competent at ink and art. Work through ALL of the exercises and don't miss out on the 30 drawings at the end of the workbook to put it all together. Even after you finish, you can redo exercises to work on any weaknesses. I loved doing the texture blocks, cylinders, and spheres. Alphonso has videos of these if you're curious. The other thing is that Alphonso's book is ART instruction. Everything you learn in the workbook and guide can be applied to pencil, charcoal, painting, traditional or digital.
Hey, Alphonso! So I finished your workbook and read the other theory book that goes with it.
I'm learning digital and I plan to use these exercises from the workbook to get myself acquainted with my tablet and software.
It took me a long time to create my own patterns and textures from "imagination".
So thanks! That's what I wanted to say. 🤗
You are an amazing teacher. 🙏

Would really appreciate if anyone can advise. Does his book “Pen & Ink Drawing” have guides in drawing in general or only for ink? I am new with drawing and draw with pencil. I want to know if his book would help me to buy it or not. Thank you ☺️
Hello there, recently start drawing and always drawing crooked lines, intrested in ballpoint drawing. Could you please explain how to hold ballpoint pen for better drawing and shading, here so many people tell diffrent pencil holding grips, but not any satisfactory video about holding and practicing with ballpoint pen.
