It's hard to say but I agree, Iroh is the best character. He is so inspirational for the characters and the audience. He quietly has a better arc than even Zuko and far more poetic. His arc can be summed up in his trips to Ba Sing Se. First he was a conquerer, then as a refugee, and last as a liberator.

Yafet Shibeshi I don’t entirely disagree with you. Korra said it herself, that she never wanted to be anything other than the Avatar. But I wouldn’t go as far to say she’s completely useless. She was still a hero at heart and learned that there was more to being the Avatar than just acting like a total powerhouse. And I'll say it straight up, I think Sokka, Toph, and Iroh, are better characters than Korra. I simply put here at #4 because I felt bad.

Iroh would've been number 1 if you asked me. Seems like a joke, is actually the most hardcore character in the series: (made people redeem themselves, can see spirits, found dragons and preserved their secrecy out of respect, broke out of prison without firebending, uses other elementary moves into firebending, broke the walls of Ba Sing Se twice (though he left once because of his son's death) and wants a life full of peace and simplicity in the name serving others). I admit I'm biased, but you can't deny a guy with so many raw feats, charisma, and character depth deserves to be the MVP. Also, I agree Azula and Katara should have been higher.
I can see your point, but Iroh was more of a supportive character and when I mean supportive character I mean that was someone that the main characters look to for sage adviser and made those characters better with his wisdom. Without Iroh, Zuko would not have developed as a character because he would not see the path that his Uncle tried to guide him. Also Iroh had must of his shit figured out so there was no story arc for him to go on.

Jaden JC nah Zuko at 1. I like Aang. He’s my second favorite but Zuko has a more interesting character and has the best character arc in the whole franchise
The real list: 1. Zuko/Iroh (connected story don't feel like they should be ranked separate, they both made the zuko ark amazing) 2. Toph (Badass, Savage) 3. Sokka (makes ATLA fun to watch and great development. Great strategist) 4. Azula (Really thought long about spot 4 and 5 but azula just had such an intense impact on the story as soon as she entered in season 2 I rate her above number 5's character) 5. Katara. (Great story arc and badass in some moments but yeah a bit annoying at some points although I think the show was very aware of this and gave her good enough reasons to act like an annoying mom from time to time.. Azula just sparked a bit more of my attention during the show. Purely preference. I wouldn't mind if someone switched 4 and 5) 6. Avatar Aang. (You might wonder why so low? Aang was never the reason I kept watching the show. Yeah his story is great and he developed a lot during it but the characters above kept me more engaged than Aang himself) 7. Suki, Mai and Ty Lee. (All side characters that worked amazingly in the show. Love Suki and Sokka and the whole plot with Azula and her friends was amazing) 8. Appa and Momo (you know you loved these guys!!) 9. Tenzin.(i didn't really enjoy TLOK nearly as much as ATLA, but to me it always felt like Tenzin was the only reasonable and decently written character in the show) 10: Cabbage guy/foamy mouth guy (c'mon. The more you watch the show the more you appreciate them as classic avatar characters) I'd like to hear other opinions of changes to this list!
Aang should NOT BE that low. He deserves top 5. Aang’s arc with the loss of his entire race, his entire nation, and dealing with the weight of the world at such a young age along with his insecurities added a lot of depth to him. He certainly deserves to be above Toph and Azula

My list would be: 1. Zuko best character’s arc ever LITERALLY no flaws 2. Aang perfect protagonist for the show’s theme, a kid owning up to responsibility 3: Toph weakness to strength done to perfection and the definition of beauty in simplicity 4. Iroh very wise man and the most lovable character in the show 5. Korra don’t understand the hate she gets very strong evolving character 6. I still think Amon my favorite villain of how dangerous he was and how he move the masses to do his will. Should also be there but they concentrated in characters with more screen time.
I wish Boomey was more than an honorable mention. He taught Ang some very valuable lessons, is absolutely crazy, and is ridiculously powerful. I was dying at the scene where he launched himself over the wall at the end of Avitar. I haven’t watched Legend of Cora yet though it seems more adult friendly.

Never really thought of korra as "lived up to" and "surpassed" expectations set by the first show. Just felt underwhelming compared to what the original left us with.
I really wish they would've waited to produce the show with a different company. This show had amazing potential that people seem to overlook. If Nickelodeon wouldn't have kept dicking them around this show....I can only imagine the master piece of an outcome
I’m not. I’m always used to seeing something without the darkness. With life lessons. Why would I laugh? I’m just flabbergasted by the darkness, in a kids cartoon.
So how can you create a top notch story without having it's dark element? It adds substance to the plots. Moreover, every dark scenes shown in the show made sense. Overall, that anime/cartoon is I think the best that was created for a kid show that is loved by matured audiences too. Up to now, people are still talking about it because of its greatness.
I am so happy with your #1 pick. I thought you would go with Aang. Zuko is one of the best characters ever written. He went from, "God, will this kid just die already" to me loving how the writers stayed true to his gray matter but also made him a character you absolutely root for.

James Horn yes at time katana was annoying. However she had way more Development the Bolin. Shoot she had more Development then most of the character in LOK. Shoot, most of the secondary characters in ATLAB are way more Develop than some of the primary characters in LOK. I don’t know who makes these list they always get it wrong for some reason.
i beg to differ. azula was a little bit of a one trick pony. she was a sadistic bad-ass, and a little of game of throne-ish in a way but ultimately not enough depth. i agree that she should have been higher than bolin but i think she is 6th at best

Personally I’d rate almost any main character from TLA higher than TLOK. Azula has to be higher, Zuko is a good number one, I’d have katara over Korra, Suki could be argued for a spot.
Most characters from korra had little to no development in the first 2 seasons and too much all of a sudden in the next 2 Same with bolin as he doesn't do shit in S1,S2 except some jokes, and then suddenly meets his family, fails to metalbend, learns he can lavabend, joins the enemy for half a season, and then has to leave it While he is definitely not above azula, katara can often come across as.... Annoying (yeah I said it, sue me).
The way they pronounced Toph makes me cringe. Also how could they forget Ty Lee, Suki, Asami, Princess Yue, Momo, Hakoda, The Cabbage Merchant, and Smellerbee?

I loved Legend of Korra but Legend of Korra was just a really good show while Last Airbender was a masterpiece that has become my favorite TV show of all time and I'm not even exaggerating. Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, Stranger Things they can all suck it because Last Airbender is God tier storytelling.
I'm surprised Zuko is #1 but development wise he definitely deserves #1, he has one of the strongest character development and redemption stories I've seen in any movie, anime or game.

My first thought watching it was: 'If they're not gonna put Zuko on number 1...' so I'm really glad they did. Zuko is definitely my favorite but Iroh was (partly) the reason for his character development, so he could've been number 1 too.

Iroh would've been number 1 if you asked me. Seems like a joke, is actually the most hardcore character in the series:
(made people redeem themselves, can see spirits, found dragons and preserved their secrecy out of respect, broke out of prison without firebending, uses other elementary moves into firebending, broke the walls of Ba Sing Se twice (though he left once because of his son's death) and wants a life full of peace and simplicity in the name serving others).
I admit I'm biased, but you can't deny a guy with so many raw feats, charisma, and character depth deserves to be the MVP.
Also, I agree Azula and Katara should have been higher.

I can see your point, but Iroh was more of a supportive character and when I mean supportive character I mean that was someone that the main characters look to for sage adviser and made those characters better with his wisdom. Without Iroh, Zuko would not have developed as a character because he would not see the path that his Uncle tried to guide him. Also Iroh had must of his shit figured out so there was no story arc for him to go on.

(Great story arc and badass in some moments but yeah a bit annoying at some points although I think the show was very aware of this and gave her good enough reasons to act like an annoying mom from time to time.. Azula just sparked a bit more of my attention during the show. Purely preference. I wouldn't mind if someone switched 4 and 5)
6. Avatar Aang. (You might wonder why so low? Aang was never the reason I kept watching the show. Yeah his story is great and he developed a lot during it but the characters above kept me more engaged than Aang himself)
7. Suki, Mai and Ty Lee. (All side characters that worked amazingly in the show. Love Suki and Sokka and the whole plot with Azula and her friends was amazing)
8. Appa and Momo (you know you loved these guys!!)
9. Tenzin.(i didn't really enjoy TLOK nearly as much as ATLA, but to me it always felt like Tenzin was the only reasonable and decently written character in the show)

Aang should NOT BE that low. He deserves top 5. Aang’s arc with the loss of his entire race, his entire nation, and dealing with the weight of the world at such a young age along with his insecurities added a lot of depth to him. He certainly deserves to be above Toph and Azula

Never really thought of korra as "lived up to" and "surpassed" expectations set by the first show. Just felt underwhelming compared to what the original left us with.
I really wish they would've waited to produce the show with a different company. This show had amazing potential that people seem to overlook. If Nickelodeon wouldn't have kept dicking them around this show....I can only imagine the master piece of an outcome

Overall, that anime/cartoon is I think the best that was created for a kid show that is loved by matured audiences too. Up to now, people are still talking about it because of its greatness.

I loved Legend of Korra but Legend of Korra was just a really good show while Last Airbender was a masterpiece that has become my favorite TV show of all time and I'm not even exaggerating. I would love a third series where the Avatar is the main villain. The stress of being the world's peacekeeper took its toll on the Avatar, and one day, he/she snapped.
