I have been following this podcast since week 4. Dealing with injury and illness I'm attempting the Cork Half Marathon. I've changed my goal to complete rather than compete for a time. Thank you for all your help. :D
Thanks lads for all the great information. Great episode 👍 After listening, I decided against a long run this weekend to "catch up" and just stick to the plan and recovery as much as possible.
Thanks again lads looking forward to my last long run this weekend more chat re tapering on next week's episode please hope the jcb gets fixed soon damian 😀
Another great episode we need more Andy. My question is around pre race jitters and how do ye handle them or deal with them? As race day nears closer I'm finding I'm getting more anxious between aches and pains from every training run to natural fears of not making it to the start line.
Just a comment on the hokas - I found my legs were way less tired wearing them than when I wore ASICS cumulus - however I’ve developed extensor tendonitis while wearing the hokas 😢 so on the lookout for a new brand
Great show as always lads😊 My plan is to do Cork and then Dublin in October. Interested to hear your thoughts on what my running for the 1 or 2 months after Cork should look like to get the right balance of rest but not lose too much of the fitness. Cork will be my third marathon but this is the first time I’ll do two marathons in a year.
Great episode again. My question is post marathon, what suggestion do ye have to get back into running, should it be the opposite to the taper - slow ramp up?
Just wondering if there is a decent course description available of the full marathon route. There was a very good and detailed mile by mile description that I had last year but that link is no longer active. It was great to prepare for the miles ahead. 🙏
If you go back through our podcast we did some nice reviews last year with course measurer John Quigley and did our own analysis also. We will give a quick run down again the week before also.
Done, 16miler, 17miler and 18.5miler and literally that's all I've had in the tank. Been running on my tod. Wondering how much will running on the day actually help in terms of adrenaline and running with other people ?
Any advice on calf cramps? Ive ran Cork the past 2 years and looking forward to this years run. I would be a slower runner myself, im 6' 4 and around 100kg ish carrying a bit of muscle mass. Both years ive paced myself great up to 15km-20km just fine, but both years ive found ive gotten a strong cramp in my calf soon after then rendering me doing a walk/jog thereafter. Ive stretched and used the massage gun pre race, worn calf sleeves, but both years its left me wanting more but not being able to give to get the time I want.
How much of drop in time is ideal for a marathon pacer? i.e. if your PB is 3:30, what would be the best time to pace for? And would you recommend wearing lovely new Brooks 😀😀
Do you think a runner's bodyweight is a major factor in marathon finishing time progress? If the runner is lean relatively, but still is close to 80kg, do they need to lose weight?
Alphafly or vapourfly over marathon distance? I find alphas very clunky so thinking of switching to vapour. I train in zoomfly and love them, so looking for advice as to are vapours as good?

Great episode as always..Will leave a void when it's over😢

Great listen. Would you recommend taking electrolyte tablets during the race
Yes. Every 5km,specifically with the heat outside.
Badly in need of new runners lads 😊

The Saucony Speed are a class shoe alright, like the New Balance 1080’s for the everyday run
Thanks 👍
What would your advice be on caffeine gels/regular gels in the marathon? Out of the 5/6 gels how many regular? How many with caffeine?

I have a pain in both of my heels on the bottom of my foot. Its restricting my training. Any ideas of what it could be?
This is a brilliant podcast and can only see this growing... been listening to a load of drivel elsewhere. Proper good advice
