As a Niagarian resident I remember when this happened - and to this day I still marvel at the tenacity of the rescuers for literally snatching this guy back from the brink of death. Heroes...all of them. Over the years there have been some absolutely remarkable stories of rescues at the Falls - this ranks up there as one of the greatest.

most people make theses mistakes and when they survive they say how thankful they are, there was a story of a man who shot himself in the head and stayed conscious and aware and was begging the rescuers to not let him die because he made a horrible mistake.

This is proof that god wasn't going to let this man take his life. It's amazing how the men saved him from going over. The little rock formation under the water was in the right place. Give all the praise to the lord and jesus and to the brave men.
Exactly, with all the kazillions of happenings in the world, and God taking a snooze break, and not an angel in sight his kid took the trouble to save some poor fool endangering others lives along with his own. Or maybe he let the angels do their thing. We'll never know.

I watched a documentary about suicide jumpers from the Golden Gate Bridge.
100% of the survivors who jumped have all said they immediately wanted to live the SECOND they let go & couldn't turn back.
I have no doubt the dead ones thought the same thing.

I live in WNY. I was 6 when I saw a little boy my age go over the Canadian Falls. I screamed horrified and traumatized at the sight. None of the adults around me believed me until they saw the police cars gathering on the other side of the gorge. That boy lived. A real miracle. He is the only one to have survived. I have relived that in my head a million times. Seeing him climb that railing and his people with their backs to him talking and smiling and me screaming, "Get off there! Get down! NO!" Of course not being heard at all over the thunder of the water...
Niagara Falls has to be seen to feel the enormity of it's majesty.
I hope this guy has recovered completely and has overcome his struggles.

Perception and reality sometimes can't be measured. He got halfway and realized this is going to be painful!
It's fortunate the ice boom was in place upriver in Lake Erie, the ice chunks that sweep over the Falls in the spring can be bigger than a man. How he lasted so long with hypothermia is a miracle. People who fall overboard into the ocean in winter are usually dead in 15 minutes. An angel had a good grip on him that day.
The rescuers are awsome, If he really wanted to live, he wouldn't have have been there.
Gambling is hazardous
If he had that same luck in gambling as he did in the falls, he would definitely be a millionaire for sure.
i had a gambling addiction before.. its really fucked up.. you put in some money.. and you win a big price once.. you come back and try win again, but you dont you just keep losing, you put in more money to win back what you lost and you just spiral downwards until you lost more than you won.. and you just feel extremely depressed trying to put any kind of money you have left to try get back. If you gamble.. gamble responsibly.. for some people however they dont even realize how much money they spent at the end.. they just keep putting in more money.

That has to be a damn good helicopter pilot. From what I understand they are very complex mechanically, and some of the most difficult in aviation. A helicopter pilot needs to not only be aware of and control aspects of this strange form of aviation, up, down, forward, back and sideways, but of the influence of the elements: wind, water etc. Obviously that would be terrifyingly complicated at the edge of Niagara Falls. Stuff can shift in an instant. Way to go man.
Totally, not to mention he's having to hover in a very specific place that isn't like anything he's ever flown in. You're right the heavy wind and huge amount of moisture in the air rising up must have been a lot different to fly in. Mad props to that guy, the rock, and everyone involved.

The rescue crew are unbelievable. They are incredible. Their lives were on the line for this man. I do so hope that he appreciates them to this day.
