  • Hello and welcome to Badger Workshop. The awesome makers set the scaffold board challenge. My entry in a tool tote made from a single 2.5m board.

thank you for creating this. Most comprehensive and helpful. I only have hand tools and it'll take me a tad longer as I'll be using wood I've felled in my garden. But it will be made with love

    Hey Matt, I love your remark at 3:45 : "I like a project that doesn't make any noise . . . . " Challenge for next time??
Basicly the only tool you used that actually didn't was your finger spreading the glue :). We'll just leave out the electrical saw, table saw, thickneser, bandsaw, drill press, dowel jointer, bandsaw and electrical saw again, tacker and an orbital sander which you require hearing protection for . . . .
I do like the tote though.

I like your entry, I imagine that the scaffold was around £15 and I think you've made something worth far more. If you like using the hardwood dowels I can't recommend enough making a simple V jig that slides in the track of your bandsaw. I've ruined many before when the blade rolls the dowel.

Needs a drawer stopping 60mm from the ends so the depth is retained at the ends dont taper as much so you can store items at the ends combi square screw drivers files chisels etc i think that improves your design

Nice project, I wonder how heavy it is without the tools? A little tip you could have used 25mm Galvanised Steel conduit for the handle with brass female bushes on the ends. Keep up the good work Matt, I have been reorganising my workshop and have made a mobile stand for my table saw which now fits into my workbench, haven't quite mastered the art of video yet.

That's a tote that should be with you into your sunset years Matt. Like the reinforced copper handle. The end caps set it off real nice. Using a bit of the edge banding for a tape holder was a neat idea. Good job.
On a side note, I don't know why but it always cracks me up when you hammer in a nail. You've got a real "just get the #$@! in there" style that just tickles me. No offense meant of course. I'm far from a one-clout master like the boat builders I did my time with! All the best.

Beautiful work, Matt! Really well done! 😃
Just one question... I'm starting with woodworking and I heard a lot of people talking about grain direction and so on... So, how did it hold up the time?
I'm curious because I want to make one as well and this seems like the correct way. (Unless you use plywood, what I don't want to! 😬)
    Thanks a lot! 😊
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
