My epic road trip through southern Brazil continued in the beautiful city of Curitiba, where my friends and I enjoyed a delicious but unusual breakfast! Join us as we have an exotic Brazilian breakfast of grilled crocodile tail and pizza in Curitiba, Brazil!
Our morning began at Jardim Botânico de Curitiba, the local botanical gardens. They’re a free, French-style attraction built in 1991, and one of the main attractions of the city. They have beautiful, manicured grounds, tons of flowers, and a beautiful greenhouse.

There were some funny rodents called esquilos hiding in the bushes and flowers, but they kept poking their heads out and hiding again every time I got close!
We were lucky that it was sunny that day, as Curitiba is a very rainy city. It was chilly and rainy the previous day, and wet and overcast earlier in the morning. It rains there roughly 200 days out of the year!
Then, we drove to Pizza Itália, where locals have pizza and smoothies for breakfast. It’s frequented only by locals and has a nice ambience. Curitiba is the biggest city in southern Brazil, with roughly 3 million residents. There are lots of Italians, Germans, and Ukrainians there.
On the way, we bought some candy from a street vendor on our way through the downtown area. There were houses there, as well as colorful murals on the sides of buildings.
Pizza Itália has been in business since 1969 and looks like an Italian diner. There are lots of images of cities from Italy all over the walls.
I got some pepperoni pizza with a strawberry-avocado-papaya smoothie with milk and sugar. The smoothie was thick and creamy like a milkshake and super sweet, with lots of papaya flavor. It was super filling!
My pizza had a thick crust, some mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, and some oregano. I added some chili flakes and hot sauce for some spice. It was so delicious but not too spicy.
My second slice was plain with just mozzarella. I added some olive oil and chili flakes on top. The dough and cheese were amazing!
From there, we explored downtown Curitiba. It’s so clean, organized, and beautiful. There’s an old streetcar and old buildings including Palacio Avenida. Everything looked very European. The pedestrian street was set with lots of Brazilian stones and was lined with bookstores, bars, and restaurants. There were also Christmas trees!
There was also a Christmas market where we tried some sweets, including some hard coconut candy and a soft, compressed bar of shredded coconut and sugar called cocada. It gave me a sugar rush!
This is a permanent street market that usually sells handicrafts, but they were selling lots of Christmas items because it was December. Then, we reached a fountain surrounded by tons of street food carts selling food from different countries or different states in Brazil, including Belgium, Mexico, Italy, Bolivia, and Poland.
Then, we tried a fermented grape drink from Portugal called quentão that was basically a hot wine. I’d had it before in Poland. It was delicious and was like a licorice wine with cinnamon. It cost $1 USD!
Then, across from the market, we stopped at Bar Stuart to have some bull testicles. It’s the oldest bar in Curitiba and is said to be the oldest in Brazil! I tried some premium cachaca, which costs $40 per shot! It’s fragrant and floral and reminded me of raki or grapa.
They didn’t have bull testicles that day, so instead, we got some fried crocodile tail with chimichurri, spring onions, manioc flour, and a squeeze of lime. It’s dense and gamy and was great with the chimichurri, manioc flour, and spring onions. It was delicious and chewy but had a little bit of bones in it.

Hi, I've watched several of your videos. Always mouth watering.. that pastele is just so huge ! The pizza not really, too thick..
What I did like is that you showed the city, the architecture which sorry to say is rather ugly all those high rise buildings. Nope. Yet from what I heard it's a city that's the cleanest and most advanced in Brazil. I was a bit disappointed there. But I have 2 questions for you ;
Have you got a tape worm ? It' isn't possible to gulf so much food and not put on weight

Testicles is not a tipical food of Curitiba. The bar they went is traditional and serve this dish, but is not necessarily tipical of Curitiba.
I never went to this pizza place, and despite the smoothie looks amazing, I was not very impressed with the pizza itself.
I really see the effort of the guide to lead David to good places, and I am very glad that he likes the city I live, but I think that here in Curitiba he chose poorly. I hope David can be back in here in a less troubled time and enjoy, or at least try, the real tipical food of Curitiba and Paraná state (carne de onça, rollmops, barreado...).

Love your vídeos David, but there is some wrong information...In average, It rains 116 days per year in Curitiba, not 200 days (in Rio it's 93 days per year and in São Paulo 107 days)... The rainy season is from October thru March, like most of the South-Southeast of Brazil (Rio, São Paulo, Curitiba), so It doesn't rain that much from April thru September... You were in Curitiba and in São Paulo during the rainiest time, which is the Summer... In january, the rainiest month in Curitiba, It rains 171mm and 15 days in average, but in July it rains only 6 days and in August only 73mm in average... In sunny Miami, where you live, it rains 133 days in average per year. So it actually rains less in all the brazilian cities mentioned than in sunny Miami... In September, the rainiest month in sunny Miami, It rains 240mm (70mm more than the rainiest month in Curitiba) and 15 days in average... So I guess you were very unlucky to get that many rainy days in São Paulo and Curitiba... I got only clear skies during my last visit to Curitiba in June 2 years ago...

Here in São Paulo like many others in cities in Brazil if we order a pizza and it comes with a thick crust so we return it, not because it is bad but we prefer thin or medium thin crust

E você mesmo disse, GELADEIRA, não congelador. Você já comeu? Coma antes de falar. Da de 10x0 em varias pizzarias que fazem a massa na hora em 1 hora, não deixam tempo de fermentar a massa corretamente.

That is not "Quentão", "Quentão" is made with ginger mainly, and it is way more delicious and brazilian than hot wine.
