CURITIBA, BRAZIL - Curitiba is located in the Paraná state of southern Brazil. It’s a pleasant city, and they known especially for meat. In this video we go on a Brazilian food tour of Curitiba, explore some of the iconic meat dishes of the city, and eat a 5 kilo family sandwich! #Brazil #BrazilianFood #hugefood
Mercearia Fantinato - Carne de onça (Jaguar meat), known as jaguar meat, yet of course not jaguar at all, this steak tartare (raw minced beef) got its name because of the raw meat breath you’ll have after you eat it. It’s mixed table-side, and it’s delicious.
Price - 53.99 BRL ($13.54)
Costelão do Gaúcho - One of the things that Curitiba is known for, and all of southern Brazil, is meat - and especially the beef ribs are among the prized cut. Costelão do Gaúcho is an amazing restaurant that specializes in beef ribs. The owner is a master, treating each rack of ribs with respect and roasting and smoking them with precision. I loved his table saw method of cutting the ribs. The ribs were outstanding, as was the entire meal with all the side salads and dishes.
4 Beans Coffee Co. - We stopped in for a quick coffee, but that turned into a coffee roasting session, which was fantastic.
Lanchonete da Lombada - Here we go, the mega 5 kg. Lombada sandwich. Lombada means speedbump in Portuguese, because it was formerly a street food stall right in front of the speedbump. It was just insane, huge bun, layers of meat, hot dogs, massive quantities of squeeze cheese. It’s not a food challenge, but a very popular local family meal in Curitiba, Brazil. Total price - 50 BRL ($12.45)
Tio Dog (Uncle Dog) - Probably one of the most iconic of all the Brazilian fast food in Curitiba is TIo Dog, specialising in a number of different sandwiches and hot dogs. We got The Philadelphia, a bun filled with hot dogs, a variety of unknown sauces, and little crunchy chip fries. It’s one of those late night impulse foods - not something I’d eat on a daily basis.
Curitiba was fun, and it was a Brazilian food tour of meat!

That is cause we are the country the most export meat the world, so we have A LOT of meat, so is cheap, so we eat XD In case you come here, the best states to eat meat is Minas Gerais(Is like if you mixed a gradma and a cowboy you get that state.) and Rio Grande do Sul(They have a big pride for their huge churrasco, is really cool, google "churrasco do rio grande do sul" to see it.).

It is really good here. But he is usually eating very cheap and simple food. That hot dog and burgers we often call then "slow death" meals. I guess he repeat that in every country he goes, but we have a lot of better places here.

Hi Mark! I'm from Curitiba and I'm really glad you visited our city. However you missed a lot... We are not the best when it comes to the street food but our gastronomic fairs and markets are awesome. When you come back you must check these places/foods:
- Santa Felicidade: The italian neighborhood, lots of restaurants and craft stores;
- Largo da Ordem: Historic center in downtown, huge arts and crafts fair;
- Praça Osório: Several regional food stalls in a nicely wodded square;
- Rua XV de Novembro: A beautiful boardwalk where you will find lots of cheap restaurants where people who work around have lunch;
- Museu Oscar Niemeyer: The "eye" museum, projected by the most famous brazilian architect. Great botecos around it;
- Mercado Sal/Ca'dore: Two of the bests gastronomic outdoors markets in town, lots of contemporary food stalls;
- Mercado Municipal: The traditional market where you can find the best brazilian and imported products. Has great botecos and restaurants as well;
- Pão com bolinho: After the carne de onça, this is the second most tradicional dish from Curitiba. It's a grinded meat/bread ball served in a brazilian bread you can eat with lots of chilli;
- X-Montanha: One of our most iconic sandwiches, apreciated for all college students. Served in the Lanchonete Montesquieu;
- Linguiça Blumenau: A delicious curated sausage with a unique flavour, made by german families. You can find dishes made of it or find it in any butcher shop;
- Pastel de Feira: You can find this snack in other cities, but you should definitely try it in a fair;
- Churrasco: You should try our churrascarias. The churrasco you eat in the other video was made in an gas or electric griller and it tastes way better in charcoal fire;
One more thing: If you like, you can leave the costelão for your last meal because most of them are opened 24/7!

Southern Brazil bbq is even better, trust me :)
The Pampas region pasture (whether in Southern Brazil, Uruguay or Argentina) is unique and it's the best in the world, the quality of the meat is ridiculously good. There's a lot of Bradford, Hereford, Angus and Nelore crossbreds being raised in the most amazing environments you can imagine. It's a beef experience you won't find anywhere else.
It's no accident that we're the number 1 exporter of meat in the world. We have a huge bbq culture in Southern Brazil which is part of the gaúcho and native people tradition, we started the whole thing and the rest of Brazil "imported" it. I grew up eating at churrascarias rodízio style, we have dinner/lunch at these places just like you guys have at your regular place. Apart from the meat, there's always a nice buffet full of different amazing foods. And BTW, in most of these places dessert is free.

I am from the UK but I have lived in Brazil for 6 years now, and I love it for same reasons you do. The people are so hospidable, especially if they find out you are a foreigner. These little neighbourhood restaurants and bars are on every street and all have great food. The big sandwich looked good and actually is made of very cheap ingredients. The hotdogs and burgers are cheap, the chicken is probably pre-shredded, but all together it seems to work. I wouldn't go for that orange "cheddar" cheese though. As an Englishman, it is an afront to true cheddar and the taste makes me sick! All in all though, love the videos. I especially love the smile on your face you get when you take a bite of something for the first time! Next time you come to Brazil, come to Sao Paulo and my city Jundiai. We have great food there too.
