@@Roxybike_Ride.and.Inspire Absolutely :-). Last weekend did a road that is just all uphill till it runs out into a state HWY. It tore me up only the 5th ride since the pandemic ended. Great job, Roxy! Thanks so much for posting this, and especially for mentioning the prerequisite skills up front and detailing the dismount. I haven't seen another video that covers these as part of the stoppie.
I found a great time to practice this skill is while waiting for friends before the ride. I throw my backpack on the ground and do rounds mainly by flipping the back of the bike (plus short movements forward). There's always the one guy who's constantly late, so why not make that time useful.
Good videos. When you mentioned that you have a good side/bad side it made me reflect on leading foot. I was just out practising my track stand after watching a couple of your videos on that (although I already have a pretty good track stand, I wanted to analyze what I did compared to what you were showing). While practising the track stand I decided to try more with my non-normal leading foot to see how well I could do it that way (as well as changing up which way I turn my wheel). Seeing this video now made me wonder if you changed your leading foot depending on the direction you turn. From what I can tell, you don't. This surprises me a bit because on a tight turn I always put my outside foot down, regardless of the fact I usually ride right foot forward. Have you tried changing your leading foot depending on which way you pivot turn? Would that help? I'm going to try to learn this pivot turn, but I need to work on my brake modulation a bit more if I want to get it as dialed as you do yours.
Hi Fill, neuroscience shows that it is NOT helpful to change the leading foot (or leading hand or any leading body part in any sport) as it’s like forcing a left handed kid to write with the right hand. We will never be 100% equal on both sides, however, we can train to be almost as good with our same lead foot forward at skills going both sides. The disadvantages of swapping feet outweigh the advantages. The loss in stability in the move and stance are so big, that it would not help to switch feet. Even the pros I train do not switch feet. Unless they were forced to do so very early and then they all say they still favor one side over the other. Of course you CAN practice with the other foot sometimes, but in a demanding skill it will take you SO much extra time to excel with both feet forward, that it’s more efficient to just spend the time practicing with your lead foot. It’ll take you further up the skills algorithm in less time. (I have a video about the skills algorithm).
hey how are you love the way you explain, i have been glued to your channel for the last three days. and you have videos and also love the "video short" . OK... On the normal and advanced pivot turn, before you set up in the way you want to turn you do an opposite (counter steer) before you trun where you want to go then feather or stop front brakes completely. You video cuts out that counter steer. can you explain why the counter steer? I see it also happens every time anyone turns a bicycle. It's subtle and i think its a natural thing and at the same time so important to turning/corning. Do i make sense?
Hi Sydney, yes, it’s an indispensable part of steering and cornering, as it causes the bike to lean/tilt into the side you want to ride to. If you countersteer to the right, the bike will tilt to the left. If you then increase this lean or do a stoppie turn, then the bike will ride to the left more naturally and you’ll have more traction. It’s a deep topic that I can not go into in too much detail here to avoid misunderstandings, but I’d encourage you to try it and see what happens 😊 Thank you for commenting and watching!

Scott Rulander hi Scott. Thank you. Happy to hear you’ve been having success! Are you consistent with the prerequisites I am talking about in the video? Trackstand, riding figure 8, braking etc? (Have some in my channel, too) Because what I see very often is that riders progress to this (very advanced) skill too early. And if you’re missing parts in your skill ladder, it’ll always going to be a wobbly ladder = inconsistent. As to your question with the lean: at slow speeds only little lean is necessary. And in order to avoid the feeling of falling to the outside - something I haven’t mentioned in this video comes to play; the LINING up of the rear wheel. What I mean with this is: you turn your handlebars into the direction where you want to ride (let’s say left) and then perform the load, explode, brake and your hips will rotate to the right. But you want to rotate JUST as much, as to LINE UP with your front wheel. So the amount of STEERING determines the amount of swing of the rear. Does that make sense? Otherwise I’ll film a trouble shooter about this one day :-)
