I'm 64. Got my first mountain bike about 9 years ago. I now have 3 bikes and I ride to work every day that I can. Retirement is looming ahead. It will afford me more saddle time. Really looking forward to it. Returning home from work often includes a long detour, sometimes 15 miles with a good dose of single track. I'll ride as long as I am able. Thanks for sharing.........

I'm 72 years old. Last year I got a new hip and a new knee. I am now doing more mountain biking than ever before. I just did a 250 mile ride last summer from Columbus to Cincinatti and back. I'll be getting my other knee replaced next month, and next summer I plan to ride to Cleveland and back. Most of my riding is on paved trails, but I do love to get off road whenever possible. I have loved bikes since early childhood, and now I am enjoying my second childhood. Never Too Late!

What a great and Inspiring video. I’ll be 40 this year. I’m grateful to share my passion for mountain biking with my buddy Mark, who's 74 and still shredding enduro trails! He's taught me so much and become a close friend. This sport has also brought my family together - my parents, brother, his wife, and her folks ride all the time. It's amazing how mountain biking can unite people across generations and backgrounds. We are all young when we are on a bike. Im blessed I can ride with and meet great people on the trails.

I got my first bike in 1966. A Columbia one speed, I stripped off the fenders, chain guard, and turned the bars up like bull horns….we rode in our dirt trails in the local woods in upstate NY. We did Clunkers with no knowledge of the west coast.
Anyhow, I still ride the woods in upstate NY on my MTBs, either my EMTB or my trusty Stumpjumper. This video is inspiring and I hope to ride as long as possible. There is a totally different vibe between riding dirt and riding pavement, I do both but always prefer the woods….I’m a mountain biker for life!!

I started MTBing last summer here in the Comox Valley / Cumberland and have ridden at Hammerfest. More than once, others around my age (I'm 74) have said, " Aren't you a little old to be mountain biking?". I know that the day will come when I can no longer MTB or ski, but for now, I am not ready for the rocking chair on the porch. I feel so alive when I am out on the trails and challenging myself. I am now riding trails that two years ago I didn't see how anyone could ride, much less me! When I am riding, I am so concentrated on line choice, anticipating and reacting to the trail, I don't have time to think about anything else. I am not aware of a seniors MTB group in this area and consider you folks lucky to be in a group like yours. Ride on!

I'm 54 and have been riding bikes my entire life. Recently I started looking into getting my wife and I some moto to ride, but I have never ridden motorcycles so I've been hesitant. Sometimes I think I'm too old to learn something new. It's similar to what I do now, but I don't know anything about the sport other than the few times I've been out with friends on quads and moto.
I am really looking at getting electric motos. They seem a lot easier to learn and easier to maintain. Surron makes 3 different ebikes and there are more companies offering electric dirt bikes.

I've found that I must stay active or I quickly get into a physical downwards spiral. Like someone in the video said, get an inexpensive used bike and get out there riding. I miss those rides and those guys something fierce. They were family to me but over the last 5-10 years we’ve all moved away from CT. So keep riding together as long as you can and enjoy the comradery you have with each other. That sort of group doesn’t last forever but is priceless while it lasts. I am 65. Live in Johor Bahru. Been riding off road for 30 plus years. I am fortunate that about 6
KM from where I live. I largely ride alone. Just getting out there. The smell of the earth, the rustle of the wind ,bird song and the gurgling water streams. I am careful. But always keen the find new trails. There is something special about solo riding. It’s great when you discover yourself in the vastness of the natural world. I know ride an Ebike , a Specialized Turbo Levo Comp Gen 2. And yes my skill set has improved, so has my ability to go further and higher. I tweaked the bike many time to get just that little extra , that balance where the bike feels like a bike yet having the comfort the know extra horses are a only a switch away. I wish I could ride 3 or 4 times a week. But that doesn’t happen often given the work I do. Recovery is at times longer but that fine. I suppose I rather not hear the human chatter but the language of the sea eagle and other birds and rodents and monkeys. The down side of e biking is - you don’t have many like minded individuals who share my method. It’s easy to go full throttle but what’s the fun in that. It good to know there are others some of whom are older than I but who share the same passion I recently upgrade my front shocks Ohlins RXF 36 m.2 Air/Coil and the rear shocks to the TTX Air. It’s made the ride smoother and I better control. Just sharing. Rubber to the ground. Enjoy. Regards joe

I was a Colorado boy now 74 living in VA. and have been riding since the late 70's and still doing this. Started with no shocks and the first evolution was fat tires on a wider rim (1.95..lol). Then came the elastomer front shock becoming the thing. My first full elastomer suspension was purchased in 90's and in 2000 I retired and purchased a full suspension with oil shocks. From there the evolution of the Mtn Bike design was taking off from the motorcycle industry. Still loving those rocky trails now with my 3rd Santa Cruz bike.

I can relate completely to the points that all the riders mentioned, the social aspect, the mental health etc. It's true.
The scenery and terrain featured in this video was absolutely fantastic. Not everyone gets to ride that kind of stuff, ever. I ride year round commuting to work in Edmonton and of course it shares nothing with this. However, I'll take what I can get.

I’m 66 and have been riding mountain bikes for 30 plus years, my first bike had rim brakes and no suspension with what you would call gravel tires. Many bikes later I now ride a Specialized Kenevo sl with the smaller battery motor combo, by far the best bike I’ve ever owned and as I live in Sydney which out near the coast is quite hilly the extra power of an e-bike is a good thing. Unfortunately most of the local trails are all sandstone and unforgiving if you come off, but the challenge is to stay upright and enjoy the experience. Keep at it guys.

Now living in Nanaimo, I just got a new Moterra SL e-mtb which is a blast. Since I have been a serious weight lifter since 13 (still lifitng after all these years) and hiker, I have been able to mainatin my cycling endurance and agility like I was at 40 or 50. Fun to see this vid! This is us. My wife and I moved next to the Cross Florida Greenway for out-the-garage-door access to 90 miles of MTB trails. At 58 and 57 we pedaled 2,500 miles along the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route from Canada to Mexico. We did it at tourist pace (not race) and it was a transformative experience that has set the tone for our “retirement” that has been a series of bike, hike, and paddle adventures. Next big event on our calendar is the Huracan in Florida in February. We’ll be 65 and 64 for that one. In the meantime we’ll be having fun playing outside whenever we’re not needed by younger or older relatives.
On the topic of risk: We haven’t backed off or dialed down (rode Bentonville area for 2 weeks this summer) our MTB riding due to age. Our MTBing has always been conservative on risk/reward, maybe borrowing some risk management mentality from my 4+ decades as a pilot and flight instructor. Over the years we’ve seen too many younger friends miss months of riding and even lose the ability to ever ride again because of something going wrong while pushing extremes. We enjoy trail riding waaay too much to risk losing it for a stunt. When we want a thrill we get our young and intact bodies back to our empty nest and, well, y’know.

An enjoyable video featuring some nice people. I can relate to so much that they say.... I'm currently 77, was a roadie for a number of years but moved over to mtb a few years ago and haven't gone back. The challenge is different now. As a roadie getting faster and riding for longer was always the challenge. Now, for me, the challenge is to improve my skills and try and tackle "features" that initially make me a bit nervous. I try and be sensible but the satisfaction of tackling perhaps something like a dropin that I'd previously chickened out of and then finding I can ride it somewhat at ease gives a real buzz. I usually get out 3 to 4 times a week.

We ride single track and dirt roads, all above 7,000 ft and being in the Rocky Mountains it is a lot of up and down. A short day is about 15 miles and a long day 25+ miles with between 1,500 and 3,000 feet of vertical. We are all riding e-bikes these days (is that boos I hear?) if so you haven't tried it yet, it will keep the fun factor going for a long time.

I’m 73 and the youngest one in our group. We all ride peddle assist Specialized bikes. Doesn’t change the downhills and makes the uphill switchbacks super fun!

@stevehops2825 that's awesome that you're out there, riding your bike. Peddle assist bikes are great for getting up those steep hills. Thanks for watching! Keep on riding 🚴‍♂️😀

Love this! Really well shot and edited. Love the message that it’s not just about fitness but also mental health and social interaction. All extremely important no matter what age you are!
I’m 38 and just got back into mountain biking after 15 years away from it. Been riding around the Qualicum / Errington / Cumberland trails and it blows me away how many people are out riding these days and the wide range of ages and abilities. I’ve seen some seniors absolutely blow past me on the uphills and I’m in awe. I’ve gone out with my uncle and his friends (in their 60s) and I’m super impressed at what they can do both up and down.
I’ve been taking my 67 year old mom and 5 year old son out on the trails, and the Trail Forks app and RUclips has certainly helped with figuring out the best areas to go as a beginner. Been doing a bunch of research into different trails which puts my mind at ease that I won’t be taking my child or mom into a spot that’s too difficult for them.
I’m also on an e-bike now, and does that ever change the game as well. Would highly recommend to anyone who might struggle with pedaling and who still wants to get out there.
I recognize most of the trails, but can I ask which one is the drone shot at 9:10 please? Thanks!

Thanks so much! Yes, TrailForks and other apps are great for finding trails. Though, I'm really good at getting 'lost' lol. A really great app is the geocaching app. I'm glad you're getting your family out on the trails. That drone shot was at the Laburnum trails, and for the life of me, I can't remember the name! I'll get back to you on that one. Thanks so much for watching 😀 🚴‍♀️

@@heyjudesadventuresoh thanks! Laburnum is like a 5 min ride away so I’ll go check it out. Based on the app and the curves in the shot it’s either Snake or Shadow I’m guessing?

I’m 53 and I know cyclist in their 70’s and 80’s and they aren’t the same as my parents and my grandparents at the same age. They have a younger mindset and and physically are just more energetic. It’s awesome to see. I’ll stay on my bike forever.

I noticed you spoke of Perthes disease .I had it as a young kid ; but i have ridden since the second grade and am still riding . and i will turn 70 in dec. I ride mainly in the woods , it's safer than the roads here in Virginia outside of Richmond . Thoroughly enjoyed your video !

    • @heyjudesadventures

@stevehague3836 Oh wow! It's a pretty rare disease, and I only know one other person who had it. I'm thankful I can ride, but
I do get sore if I push too hard. My running career did not last long- lol. Yes, I feel safer riding in the forest rather than the road, too. I'm glad you were not too affected by LPD. Many people need a hip replacement from it. Thanks so much for watching! Keep on riding! 🚴‍♀️😀
