    That black actor is Clarence Gilyard. He has been in a lot of popular movies like Top Gun, Karate Kid II, L.A. Takedown, and Die Hard. However, he is very famous and well-known with Chuck Norris in the TV show: Walker, Texas Ranger!

    This moment of Sato watching Daniel, is so much more powerful than all his scenes put together. A quiet moment for Sato, admiring Daniel’s focus and the realization that he was well taught by Mr. Miyagi.

      I like to think that he saw the old ways in him, that Miyagi had taught him the same way as Miyagi's father did. Spiritual, strength from within etc. Not the modern style he was teaching at his school. He saw that he really knew his stuff and perhaps was the first time he doubted himself for mocking Miyagi and Daniel.

    I like how Sato's face changes when he sees Daniel do the breathing exercise... He knew he was gonna lose his bet, meanwhile Chosen is clueless. Sato kept the best karate secrets to himself, because he knew Chosen would abuse them, unlike Daniel.

    • @cebukid70
      @cebukid70 9 лет назад +9

      That's a good point. Miyagi never "hid" the secrets, for example, the Crane, the drum technique, or the deep breathing meditation. Chozen was clueless, and ironically, fell victim to the drum technique.

      I doubt Sato kept it from Chozen. Focus seems to be the foundation of karate and would likely have been taught early on. I would believe Chozen had become complacent to some of the fundamentals rather than never having been taught them.

    Really is remarkable that they successfully created a more than worthy sequel. It's very, very difficult to film just 1 spectacular movie, but to catch lightening in a bottle twice is 10X as unlikely. They could have just written a story about Miyagi training Daniel for another tournament, but instead they flip things around and make the sequel more about the Teacher than the Student. Great Screenwriting!

      yep..ironically the 2nd karate kid only has one weakness...the Daniel character storyline is 2/3rd's weak and he is less featured in favor of the teacher....Daniel was the focus of the first film but he gets way less screen time in the sequel which is ballsy and kind of unexpected and I enjoyed...I kind of wish he had even less screen time...his storyline was written so poorly, I wish he only showed up for training scenes, that's all we needed........him breaking up off screen was so odd.......also the rivalry with the Japanese kid was really odd.....I like daniels training in karate kid 2 but other than that his storyline is so weird and bland... his romance with the Asian girl is underplayed and kind of pointless...there was no chemistry which he had a lot of with the first girl........it seemed he only liked her cause the plot says he has to like the girl he is near at that moment so lets make him single.......I dont know.....since he knew he couldn't stay in japan, why have a crush on a girl who you wont ever see again?....why not just keep Daniel with his first girlfriend since he clearly wont stay Asian chick.......also the bully picks on him for no reason......I don't know.....in the first film it made more sense..in this film the romance and bullying felt like rehash and rushed and forced and awkward for the sake of it and the acting is so poor that it came across as stupid...

    • @MrJholshouser41
      @MrJholshouser41 7 лет назад +13

      I disagree about Daniel and Yuki. They had much better chemistry and screen time than him and Shue. Look at pt 1 again. They meet at the beach, but don't really talk, they have a mostly montage scene on their 1st date, the quick Halloween dance, and they break up and make up, and then she's therefor the tournament. Yuki and Daniel got out a copuple of dates, they talk about her goals, she teaches him how to dance, the tea ceremony and then he saves her life. And he was trying to convince to come to the US, which was a long shot, but you could tell she was very interested in some aspects. I will concede that the off screen break up with Shue was odd, but she's not going to be in the movie for just one seen. I don't know if seen the Kick Ass movies, but they have the gf in there and breakup is so forced it should have been off screen with her not even in the movie.
      Now as far Daniel and Cho. I think we can agree two things; he was a lot more dangerous than Johnny. Hell, he would have kicked him and the other Cobra Kai bullies asses just like Miyagi. And, 2nd that once they did start their rivalry, everything after made sense. Now we can debate why he hated Daniel in the first place. Well, he is a "coward" by association because he is with Miyagi, and the next time they're not with Sato and Miyagi, Daniel exposes him ripping off the villages. That's plenty of motivation and keeps getting embarrassed by him.
      The last point about screen time, I'm not sure what else they could do with Miyagi. He had plenty of time with his woman and there's only so many times he can refuse to fight Sato.
      My biggest problem is it did not need to 2 hours. I'm not sure what they could have cut but they should have been in Okinawa a lot sooner.
      At least we can all agree that pt 3 was weak, and the Hillary Swank one was awful.

      I always think about what Sato is thinking in that moment. I think Sato wanted to cover the bet to size Daniel up and see what Miyagi had taught him. I also think he probably knew that Daniel had a pretty good chance to break the ice bricks. I think it gave him an idea of what Miyagi was still capable of re: Karate if they fought to the death. So, once he saw Daniel break the ice, he knew that he really would be in for the fight to the death with Mr. Miyagi. Of course that is just my thoughts on that part of the movie. haha

    Back in the 80's you couldn't avoid this kind of thing . If it wasn't a Ski champ it was a karate bet. If it wasn't a round of tractor chicken it was an insane bike jump. As a professional bar bouncer I have seen it all.

      The thing which takes it a notch down from the first is that the drum technique is really stupid. Going from the crane kick to this was a huge let down in the climax. If they spent a little time coming up with a new awesome technique, this would've surpassed the original.

    I saw this in the theater in 1986 when it was released, and when Daniel started telling Kumiko what the guy trying to break the ice was doing wrong I knew he was going to do it himself. It was obvious that Daniel already knew how to do it without realizing it. It showed just how far he had progressed in his training from the first film and how much he had learned from Mr. Miyagi without even knowing it. Mr. Miyagi as Daniel himself comes to realize in this scene knew exactly what he had learned and was capable of.

      +cisio64123 Which makes it so frustrating the way they portrayed Daniel in Part III. He basically became a man in this movie and regressed into a scared, almost unskilled wimp right up until the end of Part III.
      And for the record people. The Karate Kid was released on June 22, 1984. The Karate Kid Part II on June 20, 1986. The Karate Kid Part III on June 30, 1989.

    • @cisio64123

      +Holden308 I have to agree with you. I was very disappointed in Daniel's characterization in part III. I didn't like how he regressed in his attitude or ability's. It seemed like they were trying to recreate the Johnny dynamic with Mike, but Daniel had progressed beyond that in II, so it was a let down. Daniel, rather then showing growing maturity also regressed into a whiny teenage brat in III, which was a big turn off. They tried to pass it off as Terry's influance having a negative effect on Daniel, but it only made him look weak. That they regressed Daniel rather than progressing him was a big flaw and is why it just didn't work as well.

    I'd say that this scene was either fake or rigged. I've been hunting ice blocks in the wild for at least 12 years now, and I've never seen more than 2 ice blocks lined up in a row. In the wild, ice blocks rarely travel in herds, you'd be lucky to get 2 or 3 lined up. I heard of a story where a guy went ice block hunting and found 3 in a perfect line, but even I found that very hard to believe. It's obvious that the ice blocks used in the movie were either tamed and trained, or sedated and slaughtered for fun. Either way, it's pretty cruel.

      Yo Noid Sometimes, I like to rehash funny comments and post it on various different videos, because the joke itself is funny. Sure, some variation of the joke may have been repeated before, but not everyone knows the joke. What I didn't expect was that an astute reader such as yourself would read my comment from months ago, and find a similarity in it that is only found lurking in the most obscure places on RUclips.
      With skills like that, why are you wasting your time writing RUclips comments when you could be doing detective work instead? You could go around to popular websites and find obvious similarities between jokes being told. I can see it now: "Detective Dipshit: Private Dick for hire." Keep up the great work.

      You should thank me for playing the mentor role and keepin it real for ya, holmes: don't rehash shit on the same vid. Real talent is finding random humor in any video.

And already being humiliated enough, Sato says: "Chozen. don't embarrass your uncle again." Bad guy as Sato is (at this point), he knows you don't dishonor a bet. To be sure, Sato is a business man, so it won't break him. But I'm sure he still noticed the loss.
