I want to dissect this scene, so here's my interpretation: Vergil states multiple times throught the franchise that power is everything, the most important aspect of himself and his identity, yet, he loses to Dante, "Am I being defeated?"(5:38), he simply doesn't understand how that could be possible, the only way it could is if he was wrong, that power isn't everything, but he can't accept that, power is what allowed him to have a sense of control over his life since his mother died, to accept that power isn't everything is to accept that he wasted his life, that when he went to Fortuna and eventually fell in love, he threw that away for nothing, and thus, he refuses to accept it.
Vergil gets up and puts his faith in the Force Edge, his father's source of power, and again, he falls, he falls because it isn't power that made Sparda who he was, it was his humanity, humanity which is what Vergil has forsaken, therefore he can't win using the Force Edge.
When he picks up the amulet, he's still in denial and the first thing he does is to reaffirm himself, "it belongs to a son of Sparda!"(6:59), it's a way to define his own identity, it implies that he isn't weak, it creates an image of himself that he can rely on, and that is something he needs in this moment, it's part of why he refuses to go back to the human world with Dante, power is what allowed him to have a sense of control over his life, "this place was our Father's home"(7:14), he's going to the demon realm to become more piwerful, since going back implies that he is weak, to go back now is to admit fully that he wasted his life, which is why he throws himself to hell.
However, someone was waiting for him, Mundus, seccondary material states that Vergil could've defeated Mundus if he wasn't damaged due to the fight with Dante, the most literal way of showing how their broken bond only served to wear out both of them, in the case of Dante it was more of an emotional damage, in Vergil's case it was physical damage.
I love this franchise so much

If you’re talking about how Dante can switch styles & has access to his full arsenal, it’s because the DMC 3 version being shown is from the Nintendo Switch port.
As far as I know, the Nintendo Switch is the only version of DMC3 to have these features besides modded PC. I highly recommend it if you’re thinking about giving DMC3 a shot.
      Hope that helps!
