    • @willpopemusic
      @willpopemusic  Год назад +1

      😆 me too! I talked down on em forever.. didn't want those extra sticks to carry around all day. Thought they would just be annoying. The first time I used them was hiking in the Badlands (SD) and was carrying all my gear + 11 Liters of water so I needed them. I learned on that trip that I really liked having them around! Nowadays, I use them for setting up my tarp and sometimes only whip em out on long, continuous downhills. My IT band sucks.. but also, nowadays on some trips I only take one pole. More of the "walking stick" type of vibe. Thanks for checking out the video, enjoy your hikes this year 👍

    • @willpopemusic
      @willpopemusic  2 года назад

      Yes, definitely! You can use them for any kind of terrain and they are fine on asphalt. I think they will be something to take a bit of the pressure off your knees. Worth a shot! Best of luck to you!

    • @OsculatingPlane
      @OsculatingPlane 2 года назад +2

      I just got my poles today, so I have zero experience, but from my reading, you'll want to get rubber caps for your poles as asphalt will damage the carbide tips.

    • @willpopemusic

      I always pull the rubber tips off, just personal preference. I think the rubber tips are intended for pavement or other hard surfaces and the bare tips are more appropriate for trail, dirt, or grass.

    I trek on sidewalks in my suburban neighborhood. I am wearing on my feet tips like in less than one month. As I drag the pole forward and then drive backwards. Will P. mentions dragging the poles. Great in ground, grass, etc. But what about concrete? Or should I lift the pole so it does not drag? Help

    • @willpopemusic
      @willpopemusic  Год назад

      Hey Dennis, thanks for the comment. The "dragging" part would be step 2, which is an exercise to get a feel for the natural connection between the movement of your arms and trekking poles. Step 3, when you tie everything together, you DO lift the tips off the ground. Hope that helps and thanks for checking out the video!
      Step 1 - notice how your arms move naturally when you walk (without poles)
      Step 2 - while lightly holding the poles, put the tips facing behind you and walk. Let them drag.
      Step 3 - with this natural movement understood and practiced a few times, now you can start to lift the poles and add leverage to propel your body forward. Before you know it, you'll be cruising and more curious about what's for lunch! 😊

    Where to buy the trekking Pole?

  • @bruceferris8610
    @bruceferris8610 Год назад

    Concise video, but very surprised that the poles don't have straps. That means you have to hold onto the poles with the "Death Grip" which fatiques the hands and wrist very quickly. All of the push uphill and weight transfer downhill should be on the strap with the strap worn around the back of the wrist.

    • @willpopemusic
      @willpopemusic  Год назад

      Hey Bruce, thanks for the comment! My poles came with straps but I removed them. I haven't noticed too much fatigue in gripping the poles but I understand exactly what you mean. When I use them, I often have my thumbs on the top of the pole so leverage is mainly with my thumb.. sounds crazy typing it, but maybe it's just a personal quirk to my technique. I can see how those straps could be critical if you are used to them. Thanks for checking out the video!
