No question that these ships needed some love, but they still require the enemy to push at them to be maximally effective. They're really torpedo cruisers first and gun cruisers second, and the guns are so-so. They're great in a div, but hell if playing solo; solid in asymmetric battles, but often misery in randoms.
No, the forum had plenty of bellyaching about how WarGaming ignores players. I'm upset that they shut down the forums, but it was clearly not because players were somehow using the forum to hold WG by the goolies.
Austin has the 2nd worst reload of ANY light cruiser. Yodo at 12.5 seconds is the worst and it needs a HUGE BUFF. The average of tier X light cruisers is 5 seconds. The .5 second buff will allow 1 more burst fire IF YOU USE ALL AVAILABLE. So this IS NOT a buff to AUSTIN. No one will see any difference. A buff to 6 seconds would be more appropriate, as every light cruiser except Yodo has 6 second or less reload.
I am not much sure whether the change to ballistics of Panasian cruisers is good.. They could use islands for lobbing shells, although their smoke is comfortable, so they don't need island use that much and when I played them (for grind upto T10), I had almost no problem with them, probably because US DDs and CLs upto T10 were among my 1st ships ingame, being used to US small caliber shell velocity. This change could mean those increased radars will have more comfortable time to deal with Panasian flat ballistics forced to play then more open water(although in smoke) ! But you going to be landing more shells on targets, as you already pointed. I think Sejong is just down tiered Jinan, it already feels as quite useable ship.
From what I've seen the ballistics are pretty much only changed to accommodate the longer range, not really changing the ability to island lob. Although haven't tested it myself so can't say for sure.
Taking away that moonshot arc will certainly help against anything further away than canister shot range. I have always played the Pan-Asian Cruisers like a large DD.
Yeah no, its not soviet arcs, they’re still very floaty, its just compensating for the additional range, making the flight time to max range about the same. The change is live on pts, test yourself Jinan has always been a good ship, the damage output is pretty nuts, she just had a higher skill floor.
Also Japanese CL shell arc need a buff too, is non sense to have such a long reload time with floaty af shell and barely have a pen even with ifhe so just change the gun of entire line to mogami 155 instead would fix a lot of problem on that line
Honestly, I'd be happy if WG just gave them even a short-range hydro to avoid torps and detect subs. I actually think Pan-Asian ships are pretty cool. Because they can do *really* well escorting a battleship. (Particularly a German one.) However, subs are completely terrifying in them. With no armor to speak of, and very little hp. 2-3 homing torps is all you need to go from full health to port in a few seconds. And again, without hydro, there's nothing you can do.
I’m the chump in the Chumphon. Works pretty well for me, but those above it and below it not so much. I would like to see the same change for 5”/38s in general. The shell arcs came in to help the Japanese destroyers compete back when there were only the two lines, and that nerf is way overdue for some attention. That said, when you have a cruiser line built on that gun (or similar ones - the 5”/54 is not much better) the change will be welcome.
You really need to play the JINAN lick an ATLANTA; her guns are just as floaty. Same with the other Pan Asian US built cruisers in the line. At least that is how I play them.
I see the ships every now and then really only Jinan though, and from what I know it's their Smoke & Deep Water Torps that is their Saving Grace that said I may go down this line now getting rid of the Suborbital Shell trajectory is a good thing
Tashkent 39 is pretty good. T9 hull at T7, really strong torps and not great conceal. It's like a T7 Jager with worse concealment but more hp. You have to play carefully because of the conceal and the guns are crap, but no DD at the tier can kill you quickly and you're so much faster than most of them. I admit I haven't played it much since getting it in the event, but I've enjoyed the games I've played.
if you ask me it is almost OP at tier 7. There simply is not too many high velocity guns or too many "good" players. The ship is amazingly hard for peeps to hit.
These are disasters in Randoms as they're some of the most situational ships in the game. But one place I found the Jinan and these ships really shine in Ranked because it's a mode that forces ships, especially BBs to stop camping in the back till the last 5 min or less of the game and and they have to push into CAPs to try to win games. (diabolical laughter with that DPM, smokes, and torp reload boosters)
I'm a light cruiser guy and I have Jinan and kept Chumphon just so I could have all the current Atlanta class ships. Yes, I have ATL, Flint, San Diego, and Chumphon. I like them alot but like SD the least as she's just too squishy at T8.
I love the SD also! Lots of tools. The torps are very short range but descent speed and damage - in my best game playing her I hid behind an island at the end of the game, popped out and landed enough torps to sink a 3/4 health BB. Fortunately his turrets were facing away from me so I didn’t die!
Buff to ships, nice I suppose. But what WoWs actually needs is a LOT more maps as they do get very repetative playing the same ones over and over again. Also, better game modes, that airship one is kinda shite. Having the hated subs and CV's in a game mode of their own and not in Random Battles would be a massive improvement. A proper 'Battle of the Atlantic' escort mode would be good as well and perhaps a Pacific based one for subs would be good, let those sub players have a good time as subs really don't fit into rnadom battles as we all know. A 'Random Battle' mode without the despised CV's and subs would be very popular, you could still have a mode with them in of course if that's what people would like. How about a more 'mature' game mode of Axis-vs-Allies with 40 minute matches and ammo supply for example. They can do all of these but WG won't of course as they are afraid this will cost/lose them money in some way , although the player base will love it.
I'm not sure hot feel about the Jinan. On one hand, those ships definitely needed some buffs. On the other hand, I do not feel like dealing with Smolensk 2.0 without the hydro.
What made the Smolensk such a pain is it's dpm, smoke, range and being really hard to pen with big guns. Jinan still gets devstruck easily and doesn't have old Smolensk range. Don't think it'll be that bad and honestly be that OP. It's currently pretty useless if the enemy team don't push.
The guns are so weak. Slow reload, low damage per shell and dd's aren't afraid of you because they simply out gun it and don't have a citadel. The best game I had in it I did almost 293k damage and most of that was from torps. Games where I don't get deleted in one salvo are rare.
