Took a few games to really lock down the play style but I am enjoying the line quite a bit. So far my record is 151k fire damage from 17 fires in the Encounter. Currently sitting at 144k average in the Cerberus. The line pumps out a LOT of damage, often uninterrupted, but it is VERY easy to get into positions that you cannot get out of. Ive found good success going Prop+slot-5 Rudder, however a lot of that is personal preference for maneuverable cruisers, especially with how often I was getting torpedoed in my smoke. The better rudder also helps to mitigate some of the poor forward-firing angles and torpedo angles. The AP while not great, is usable, especially against light cruisers or broadside BBs that are already on fire. An important thing to consider on the armor model is that the citadel does not extent under the turrets, meaning you can peak your nose or stern around islands and farm without risking large AP hits. Overall, I think it is a relatively well-balanced line with clear strengths and weaknesses.
As someone who wants to grind the line: do you kite open water when the smoke is down? Or do you just kind of sit there and torp as the smoke comes off cooldown?
Looks like a higher skill ceiling ship which is nice and it hast nice smokes that allow some maneuvering. I hated the british cruiserline but so many better characteristics in this line. The heal seems quite strong too. But since it doesnt 1 shot everything its not a ship for pq.
I went to the dual rudder mod for Encounter. My rudder shift is now 5 sec (my Wichita has 4,8 sec). I lose camo but it means less CV and sub games. Dual rudder allows me to easily dodge open water. Torpedoes etc
@@thejamppaI like double rudder on ships without radar as it means you don't suffer losing stealth radar etc. Manoeuvrability is more worth it especially when you have smoke to hide in.
It’s a better Devonshire, honestly the biggest downside of Devonshire is it’s limited range, the dpm is nice.. just hide like a light cruiser and don’t pick fights against things that will end you.
I had my regular session in purgatory randumbs between the ranked seasons and was blown away when all the BBs on my team turned around at the start to snipe from the back two rows. Was particularly hard to handle as I forgot to change my Shima torps from F3s as my ranked set up in the first game. Was horrible with the entire middle of the map a desert.
Genuinely thinking about going for Heavy HE prop mod/double rudder lighthouse build. Can use snoke to farm and then dance around at range when it's on cooldown.
Tech line is too squishy.. utilities are great but its like a floating barn door, like a target ship the navy use to practice target practice on for newbs.. crawling smoke is pretty pants as to use the turrets you gotta angle somewhat and that leaves the barndoor wide open to get dev struck in smoke in that tiny circle you have target painted yourself in..
Cerberus just looks like a significantly worse Hindenburg, Zao, and Goliath. That armor is appalling. And its sub surveillance gimmick is almost completely useless
Relying on RNG for fires is for sure a bad thing. But that RNG also comes into play with citadels and penetration (as PQ experiences regularly), so I don't see it as such a big deal. If building into AP was a sure thing then it would be a no brainer but so much relies on RNG.
I gotta say i heavily prefer ap focused ships. The damage i get is just so much more satisfying. And focusing on HE also usually means kiting and not actually actively playing the game so very boring playstyle most of the time
It's a good looking forward to it about this ship, Cerberus is just like Goliath. Having 203 mm guns on twelve with crawling smoke generator is pretty good move.
I feel like this line was given massive weaknesses but no real upside. Decent DPM but nothing crazy, decent torps but nothing crazy, and a decent smoke but with torps and aircraft nothing crazy. In exchange, massive hull, horrible citadel, horrible AA of all things. This leaves you comparatively easy to hit in smoke, nullifying alot of what makes it so great. Imo they either need to buff the AA flat out, or preferably make this less prone to citadel murder.
it feels like they have been putting out several tier 9/10 ships with tier 2 AA recently. it makes these ships almost useless when their smokes are down in CV games.
This ship is a really good tactical ship, really good! It has access to the best consumables outside of radar. Stealthy, good torpedoes and good gun range all good hallmarks of a impactful ship. Don't invest in the guns! Invest in being an absolute pain to kill and keep rolling that fire chance until you do get lucky.
@M3RUL3Z I had some more games in it, I definitely recommend investing everything into Smoke cd and duration. The less time out of smoke, the better. I would even recommend the 4pt AA skill that reloads consumebles -50%. I tried one game to tank an Azuma for 45 seconds while waiting for smoke, 4 fires 2 broken turrets ended bad for me. I was surprised how much HE raw damage she takes. On another occasion, a full health Jinan tried to finish me off, I only had 5% health, but I had smoke available. I smoke up, turned, and dropped torps and switched to AP, I could tell he went broadside towards my torps cause he was blind firing me, I accelerated out of smoke and let rip a full broadside of AP! 1 torp hit, and then the AP just smashed I at the same time for a very satisfying dev strike. Late game with good map awareness, you can smoke kite at full speed for stalling pushes, you can use your long range ASW to assist your CV'S attacks by taking the aa focus. There are lots of little tricks this thing can do.
Is it just me or are tier 11-9 games over very quick? Many games are decided by 0 points on one team and i feel pushed to do realy dangerous moves because all teammates are dead in the first 5 minutes. Would love to get some opinions
Yeah the hornet is an unfair carrier at the tier. It's magic button to spawn those B25 bombers is just absurd always. Also doesn't help that there are AL Hornets in every other game.
For me its just more usefull Jinan. You trade worse torps, for better HE, but you also have tools against subs, hydro and you can also move with your smoke. Jinan has no hydro and absolutely no defence against subs...
I would like to see another few matches in the Patrie. I think the patrie now needs to be buff with a F key or something else, like fix the guns. repub guns What do you think? Basically, the reasons for Playing Patrie have disappeared now that there is the Maine.
Maine and Patrie fulfill different roles. Patrie's guns are far better at range and have a fast reload, and in exchange it has mediocre armor (though it cannot be citadeled reliably). The ship is also very fast. Maine is tankier and has very good guns as well, but it's not quite as good at range. Maine is definitely stronger, but buffing Pattie with an F key isn't the answer. Just buff its dispersion or it's reload

This is the definition of "I get all my knowledge from video games". This is an improved County class, known for being heavily armoured. The British abandoned heavy cruisers due to the treaty. The British were the leaders in hull design and armour quality (for battleships anyway, the US edged in cruiser grade armour). WG have in inserted what is essentially a 1920s design at T10, of course it won't stand up to a Des Moines.

How does this compare with Goliath? Is it just a trade from super heal to utility/smoke?

The Hornet is pretty mediocre. The only thing it has that's decent is those B-25s. But when those B-25s come for you, yes indeed it is unfair.
I understand that This ship has to have some downsides but they should buff the consistent aa damage to at least 78 from the 62
I've only played to tier VII but I find this a sluggish line that is not really fun to play.

I don't see the point of this line of cruisers. Beside the smoke they are very weak, the guns feel like T7 guns.
