I was really surprised how much they all responded to being petted even though they don't want to be touched by humans. It makes a complete mockery of Nagasaki Bio Park petting the newborn babies which destroys the pond between the mother and her babies. This is something no zoo in the West would ever do. Even when the babies spent the first 6 weeks with their mothers before going into the main enclosure with visitors, within 24 hours they responded to being petted. If you had the opportunity to comment on how bad Animal Welfare in zoos in Japan was, that would be very helpful. Because of the language barrier the Japanese are so cut off from the outside world and so have no idea how bad their behaviour to animals is.
