@@CapybaraWorldSyu was the first video on RUclips from your channel I watched him making calls in the evening. I had never seen a capybara before that and they looked so cute. I just watched a lot of videos that day of capybaras.

That Is exactly me every time I think of Donut being sent away and how depressed he will be.I cry

He is not causing problems. The Biopark is blaming the males on why they have not had babies for 5 years. I told the bio park years ago they had to breed Aoba because she was the largest high-ranking And the obvious choice for babies, but of course, they ignored me. I have written it all up in a blog on my word Press capybara world site.

@@kenBIGLION67aus I have come to the conclusion that the decision makers at the Biopark know next to nothing about animals and Capybaras. They make so many very serious mistakes, but the Japanese are very gullible and they can get away with murder literally.

I really appreciate your concern for these 3 wonderful capybaras..Aoba Was limping when I First met her 10 years ago nobody at the bio park has been able to tell me what is wrong with her and I suspect that at a good European zoo Whatever her problem is it would have been fixed. I am trying to find out what a good european zoo would do to help Syrup. With Donut, I wonder if it is the poor quality of their diet for the last few years, they used to get many, many, many more vegetables and they used to get pellets as well. As you can. Probably tell I am not at all happy about the treatment they are not being given. If I hear anything positive I will let you know.

Yes , you are absolutely right about weak members of a herd. Males are different from females and my concern has always been that the younger stronger males may try to usurp Donut's position. He has some marks on his cheek And the side of his body but I don't know how serious they were when they happened, but it does make me worried and he is keeping away from the herd for most of the day I do think his confidence has been shaken. But he is still the most popular with the females.

I am worried about him. Especially as the keepers, do not try to feed him properly. But I spend most of the day gently rubbing him. And I think that helps him relax.

He Will be 11 years old next month. I am a bit worried about him. Because he is not being given enough to eat and he is obviously finding it painful to walk but I love him very much and I give him as much food as I can.

He is still the leader of the herd, but he is avoiding getting into any aggression on land. They have not visited the mossy hill at all since I arrived. But they still go to visit the breeding male. Syrup and Donut often swim there. But Donut still prowls around the fence when I told him he should be resting. What He loves to do is mating. He has a beautiful mating call But today nothing happened and he stayed on land Beside me. Yes, the fires in the Pantanal are absolutely heartbreaking and all because of human destruction of large areas of land to make way to cattle and soy.. I hate to think how many capybaras are suffering.

I am so pleased to hear that. I love him so much too. And I will give him a kiss tomorrow and tell him how much you care about him.

I was not there at the time, but I am sure their vet looked at it and Syrup seems to be coping and still part of the herd and still being aggressive when he wants to be.

Thank you very much for your very good suggestions.And your concern for syrup. He broke his teeth the day before we arrived.But now they are growing back.He is not so distressed. He Seems to be coping well with his painful foot. He is still very much part of the herd. And even challenged his old adversary prune At dinner time, which amazed me! The keepers. Give him and Donut extra food so They are Doing the best they can. And I'm trying to find out what other zoos might do for a capybara with a broken bone in his foot.

@@CapybaraWorld That is great, they are very resilient creatures. You may be interested in an article in the Journal Nature, it's discussed in the Guardian and NPR, it's about Elephants that use names. They have a sound that is unique to each elephant, and other elephants mimic that sound to call them. Amazing story but all I could think about was capybaras, they call each other in a similar way. Hinase and Momiji were the clearest example that came to mind. Anyway food for thought, tell Donut I said hi. Thanks for listening

And I am so pleased that having read about elephants "using names" you immediately thought about capybaras. From my observations and from what my friends who live with Romeo and Tuff'n said, about these 2 calling each other using different sounds, I believe it is quite likely that capybaras also communicate with different sounds to identify different capybaras. So much of their communication is ultrasonic and I don't believe this has been studied at all. As you say Hinase and Momiji had a very distinctive way of calling to each other. I wish someone would do the research which has been done on other species like pigs and elephants, on capybaras including their auditory range. I believe their sense of smell is the most important sense they use to navigate their world. I often think that when I am with capybaras I am surrounded by communications which often I may not be aware of and which I don't understand. It is as if a whole other world is taking place around me which I may not be aware. It's very possible that they have senses which we do not share. Your post: Spectrum Boss Capybara World I was just talking to my sister and I was explaining that an animal with the auditory range of capybaras, will develop advanced intelligence. Just because we don't understand them, it's not hard to see the herd behavior is coordinated. They all understand the actions called out by the leader, or even the individual in the herd. It's quite amazing, but they are speaking in a language that they understand. Maybe not equal with humans but they do demonstrate reasoning ability. Take Romeo sharing a piece of his snack with Tuff'n. Tuff'n might not have understood the exercise but Romeo had no problem with the concept and the language being spoken by Marvin. You can open people's eyes to how the capybaras live through the lives of individual capybaras. Following them and knowing their name, being able to identify them in the group. Only then can you begin to understand their situation. I love the Japanese adoption of capybaras as an iconic animal. I laugh and am entertained by their videos, the soundtrack and the graphics are entertaining but limit the educational value. I find it profoundly moving and inspirational her determination to continue to live. I also find it heartbreaking how determined she was to climb that Mossy Hill to be with her daughter, Ryoko. It Seems not given that this happened About 8 months ago. I spoke to a zoo. Keeper from San Diego zoo and asked what they would do and she said they had a team of vets who would have operated but Syrup would have to be taken out of the herd to recover. Based on my experience at the bio park, I do not believe syrup could have gone back into the herd so it might be better for syrup to stay in the herd and limp. He is still part of the herd. He can do things in the water and he makes the best of his pain and even fights with Ora Through the fence.
