This is so helpful! I was looking for exactly this, and didn't know what they were called. For those of you asking for links, just search Amazon for the words: spigot camera
This works awesome for lighting solutions that require less than 5.5’ of heigh more or less. For light stands that will hold light and modifier such a 36” octabox you’ll need taller stands with wider leg span and springs to protect gear from accidental drop while adjusting it. I travel with my Godox AD 200 and 400 a lot and I’ve been liking the Manfrotto compact light stands with extendable legs. Check them out
Ohh, so that thing is called a spigot. I bought a light and found out it doesn't fit on the 1/4" screw of my tripod. Now I know what to get. Thank you!
So awesome. I ordered a Smallrig video COB and I started looking at light stands to buy along with it. I was like screw spending an additional $200 or more when I have several tripods. Funny thing is that I already had the MeFoto tripod as my travel option. Light stands are a huge waste of money. I already ordered the spigot before watching your video and you just confirmed the idea works.
Hey Henry! Love the videos man.. btw, the reason why the light stands spring out is most likely because they are air-cushioned, a way to protect the equipment if the thing comes down. Greetings from OC!
Look up amazon affiliates and start putting links to the stuff you review and recommend in the description... u just missed out on my next purchase lol
Actually there is! It's callet something like Camera Screw Adapter Thread 1/4" Male to 3/8" Female and 3/8" Male to 1/4" choose one that will fit your stand/mic thread
Thanks! I got mine on eBay but those links always change-- here is a link to Amazon! www.amazon.com/Foto-Tech-Shoulder-Equipment-ballheads/dp/B0176V7CK6/ref=sr_1_17?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1499437798&sr=1-17&keywords=spigot

I was just gonna say the same... :/
This video inspired me to make spigots to convert drum stands to light stands. Might start selling them!
The solution I was looking for ! Thanks from France ! :)
Thanks for this video .... i was searching for exactly this... can you please share the amazon link for it.. :)
This video would have been just what I needed had you posted a link to the actual product. BUT.... because you didn't, #ThumbsDown!
can it hold heavy lights with 2kg weight??
Thank you! This is what i was looking for.
YOURE AMAZING MY G ! THX X DA VIDEO
Hi. Could you pls share the amazon link?
Coming from tripods in the first place, pondering about a light stand: Do you see any benefit of a light stand at all?
What about going the opposite way? If you already have a light stand and want to attach a microphone? Is there an.... anti-... spigot?
Actually there is! It's callet something like Camera Screw Adapter Thread 1/4" Male to 3/8" Female and 3/8" Male to 1/4" choose one that will fit your stand/mic thread
Where can I find it? I tried to but I couldn't
Thank you so much for putting this together. I've always hated light stands
Cool videos, you have a link to the tripod adapter? I'm sick of stands as well!

Interesting idea. Which tripod do you use exactly? And how high does it go?
I use a carbon fiber MeFoto Globetrotter with a Manfrotto 500 video head on top. Hope this helps!
Henry Ortlip great stuff, thanks.
