That was amazing! This is some of the most solid level design I've ever seen.
I like to imagine going back in time and showing the Nintendo staff a VHS of this video, right on the day they completed the original Mega Man 4.
Video is a TAS and should be labeled as such.
Why??
One thing I like about this game (or hack), is that it fixes some things that Mega Man 4 could have done better. There is one thing I noticed in particular. The flying pit enemies (from Dust Man's stage), have an enemy warning sign, to let the player know that they are up ahead. That's good level design.
Megaman has always been a game of quick reflexes. Surprise pit enemies are a staple of the series, from the Bombomb of mm1, to the Tosanaizer of mm11. What you mention is more like a fix for newcomers.
I believe that as a Mega Man player, you have to always beware.
@@erickmartinez5148 The ones in Mega Man 4 are guaranteed to kill a new comer. Not to mention in Voyage they are made faster, making them more dangerous. In the original MM4 after knowing they will appear the only challenge was shooting them then jumping over the pit, which isn't much of a challenge.
this hack version is so well designed and polished. loved seeing call-back assets and enemies implemented throughout the stages.

This is one of the best hacks I seen so far. Specially the level design and music.
This is a huge honoring of mega man. Using so manny assets from all mega man 8bit games. It was great to watch the flawless play through.
You should check out MM4: Minus Infinity as well as MM Unlimited.
Its a good play through, but it looks like a TAS and not an actual person. Just saying.

But I agree it all looks a bit inhuman and as if ‘it’ knew what exactly would happen.

@@mauricehermans1254 Nice thing about this hack is that it CAN be played without save states. Most Mega Man hacks are designed to be played with save states if not designed to have to use a TAS to complete them.
Is this just a TAS except you got all the secrets/pickups/stuff people normally skip in anything except a 100% run? So, a TAL?
The player didn't get the energy balancer in Skull Man's level, so it's technically not a 100% run either.

One improvement over the original Mega Man 4 this hack does is allow you to use Drill Man's weakness against him even when he's underground as I recall in the original game, once he was underground, he was invincible to everything except Toad Man's weapon.

I have tried to make the .NSF file, it's impossible with the copy/paste method because it has large amounts of music and the ROM OFFSET may change. I may want to create the .NSF file manually.

Hi! This is Dust Man's stage theme composer for MM4V here.
The closest you could get are converting all of the videos from the author's (DurfarC) playlist into audio formats.
DurfarC has expressed interest in making a .NSF of the soundtrack in the future, in which someone else could convert all the tracks into MP3s and make them downloadable somewhere. I suggest keeping an eye out for it. :P

I know that run looks pretty good but however if you're gonna make it a complete 100% Playthrough of Mega Man 4 Voyage you just need to know that there's an Energy Balancer in Skull Man's Stage that you need in order to make it a 100% Run because there's a secret way after you climb the 2nd ladder i believe it was you just keep moving right and slide there in order to find the secret weapon capsule.

The only weak points about the game are the bland music and that I don't now it needed more substance writing, I really liked the twist castle though.

What do you mean by bad writing? This hack seemed to have even far less dialogue and story than the original MM4.

@@Stew91 To be more specific, the use of a narrative format throughout weakens the presentation. It's almost like a child was telling the story. I also take issue with the way the game presents itself as just another Megaman game where Dr. Wily does the same thing he usually does and Megaman is just heading to another day at the old 9-5 job: kicking Dr. Wily's ass. AGAIN. Weak and goofy lines like: "Mega Man had to once again prepare himself for a journey - a voyage - around the world" sounds like it was written by a 6th grader. "He also had to locate Dr. Wily hiding in one of his many skull castles. What nasty surprises await Mega Man this time around?" Wow. Another brilliant display of mediocrity from a grade school-level writer. "The world could finally breathe out once again. For a while." Need I say more? Also the constant use of the past tense doesn't read very well and comes off rather puerile. The concept itself isn't without merit but it could have been presented much better: we show a scene where Megaman is enjoying peace with Dr. Light and the others. Then you show the old Dr. Cossack era robots lurking in the shadows, getting ready to pounce. It would have been cool to keep it a "secret" that Dr. Wily was behind it all and implicate Kalinka or Dr. Cossack and reveal the true (yet obvious) villain partway into the game, like after you challenge the robot masters. This game's plot unfolds without any foreplay or development. The presentation is childish and doesn't give you much to look forward to.
@@retrogamerdave362 Meh, the intro could have been better, but I didn't think it was that bad. Maybe they could have added a sub weapon to Mega Man's arsenal. Then at the end of the intro, they'd say, "And this time, Mega Man is equipped with "X" weapon, to take down Wily (sort of like the mega ball in Mega Man 8).
As for the level design, I don't entirely agree. Some level design is bland (like Toad Man's stage), but then there's good stuff like Bright Man's stage, Drill Man's stage, and Dive Man's stage). I also like some of the little changes that they did, such as adding an enemy warning sign to pit enemies (instead of pretty much having to die, since you don't know they'll be coming), or actually letting you hit Drill Man while he's underground, instead of having to wait until he emerges. And aside from a few tracks (like Toad Man's stage, which has music as forgettable as the level itself), I think most of the music is on par with the original MM4. I also feel like some of the bosses in the hack are better than the original. Toad Man is no longer a walking doormat, Dive Man is still challenging, but not as unpredictable, when Brightman freezes you, he'll always try and shoot you before trying to jump on you, (where at that point, you can unfreeze and escape), etc. The hack is by no means perfect, but those are some of the reasons why I like it.

Grade school level writer? Or maybe some people just aren't good writers in some regard. You do realize that you can criticize without getting personal, right? No need to insult someone. I got the vibe that the creator was trying to go for a "just another Wily causing trouble" intro, but he missed the mark in making it stand out from MM4's intro. That's it. He could be a good writer in other aspects, but I'm not going to call him a grade school writer, just because the intro could have been better.
I don't like Toad Man's stage. It feels like something out of an amateur romhack.
But the stage has awesome music ;) !
