    Most people didn't have a WiiU, which is why it failed. So for those of us (most of us) that never played these games, it's a win. And I'm sure sales are good, or Nintendo wouldn't even bother.

      +Robert Wilson Yeah, but its also a pretty big slap in the face to people who actually invested in the wii-u and these games, and then suddenly all of these rereleases come out on the switch, many of which havingmore content than their wii-u counterparts. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be any ports of wii-u games on the switch, I’m jsut saying nintendo shouldn’t overdo it with them. (Seriously, captain toad for switch? Yeah, its a pretty good game, but, really? Did anyone ask for that?)

    Wii U ports aren't for you, or me. They're for the majority of gamers who didn't actually have a Wii U. That's a LOT of people who didn't play those games. Almost all these Wii U ports are absolutely must buys for anyone who didn't buy them before.
    Having to say that over and over again is pretty annoying though. I get that, I've just not been reviewing them on my personal blog because... I already did. Years ago.

      MrJobocan
      Switch has pretty good original titles mario odyssey, doom, splatoon 2.
      And zelda breath of the wild , let's be real, is a port. It was in development well before switch (nx) was anounced. The games are indistinguishable. This is similar to zelda twig light princess. Twilight was developed for gamecube, and release delayed months for wii. Again both versions are indistinguishable.
      Going down, mario kart 8, Yoshi wooly, Hyrule warriors, donkey Kong, captain toad, mario tennis ultra, Bayonetta 2.
      Nintendo is milking it. after I bought the switch last year, I then bought wii u so I could buy and play these games. Now Nintendo getting smart, re release old console games make more money

    The WiiU is like that indie band that had really good songs only a small audience heard. Now they are mainstream and re-releasing more polished versions of those great songs that would have been #1 hits. I feel like the WiiU community is starting get that “we heard them first” mentality and don’t care that the masses missed out on a lot of great stuff. These ports are new to the mainstream but a lot of reviews are being based on how it stacks up to the original. Personally, I’m not going out and buying a WiiU to find out so a good approach would be reviewing these games not as how it is as a port but how it is as a game. That will help with the redundancy and help keep the reviews fresh.

    Hyrule Warriors on Switch is one of these ports that are totally worth getting. Not just because of the framerate but all the additions from Legends.
    In comparison Donkey Kong Country doesn't add much.
    Look at "GamesBrained" videos on Hyrule Warriors to learn just how much has changed.

    • @seacliff217
      @seacliff217 6 лет назад +4

      I know man. Even as an owner of the Wii U version and the first season pass, the new content is overwhelming.
      All the content on the Wii U version, all the content of the Wii U version's season pass, all the content of legends, and all the content of legends season pass... And each piece of DLC alone had hours of content. This is the most justifiable Wii U port because it's actually an enhanced 3DS port.

    • @FireSonicYT
      @FireSonicYT 6 лет назад +3

      yeah, and if you didn't buy the dlc, then it is even better. the 3ds version played kinda terrible to begin with, so having that content on the better system is nice.

    • @alexchavez7514
      @alexchavez7514 6 лет назад +3

      I bought HW the first day it came out on Wii U. I felt it was worth the $60, but I never got any of the DLC. I became more pissed when I found out that Legends was coming out, and, if I recall correctly, the only way to get the HW Legends characters on Wii U was to buy the 3DS and then transfer them over. I was not going to buy a version of the that had more content but worse framerate/graphics, and it could only run well on a New 3ds (I only had a regular 3DS).
      Fast forward to the announcement of the HW on Switch. This version, for $60 dollars, gets you slightly better framerate/graphics than the Wii U, all the DLC, and all the content from Legends. In my opinion, this is the best Wii U port. After I saw this announcement, I immediately sold my HW on Wii U for about $20, so I'm only paying about $40 dollars extra for an enhanced port with everything I wanted.

    • @FireSonicYT
      @FireSonicYT 6 лет назад

      Alex Chavez i believe the legends characters were also part of a dlc pack on wii u as well, so you didn't need to buy legends to get them on wii u. but probably best you didn't get them, still.

    • @alexchavez7514
      @alexchavez7514 6 лет назад

      Yeah, after researching (AKA googling for about 5 minutes) I see what you mean. However, from what I can tell it looks like it was just the characters only. The 3DS had all the extra features like the adventure maps, stories, my fairy, etc. In a way, even if I had purchased all the characters, the Wii U would still be the "inferior" version in terms of content.

    • @luiscanamarvega
      @luiscanamarvega 6 лет назад +13

      DatGameCollector I’d be pissed if this game sold millions upon millions of copies on a successful console. But truth is, they probably didn’t make much money out of it when they released it on the WiiU. I think of this as a definitive release and that’s why I don’t mind the price tag.

    • @takki3942
      @takki3942 6 лет назад +9

      they didn't make much money off of it so the full price is perfectly justified. also these are DEFINITIVE releases making it so that all the dlc and even some new content.

      @drifloons 6 лет назад +1

      he talked about this in the donkey kong video

    • @spice_krispies
      @spice_krispies 6 лет назад +10

      People didnt mind paying for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but everything else is a price issue?!?! That makes no sense at all, considering MK8 was like the best selling game on the Wii U to begin with. And for the millionth time, the Wii U sold about 13 million systems and the games DID NOT SELL THAT WELL overall. For example, Donkey Kong Tropcal Freeze only sold 1.7 million copies, which is NOTHING in the scope of a system that was out 5-6 years. Thats why its justified on the Switch, especially with more content. People need to wake up and educate themselves on what they are casually arguing over. If you have a problem with ports and prices of games you already owned, then dont buy it. But don't cry and make it an issue for those who it is new to. Simple as that....

    • @AlvinEarthworm
      @AlvinEarthworm 6 лет назад +4

      The games were great. It was the console itself that was the problem. Terrible third party support. Underpowered hardware. Abysmal marketing and a gimmick (Game pad) that was never utilized in any worthwhile manner. (Besides Mario Maker, but that's the only exception).

    • @TheImprintsIllusion
      @TheImprintsIllusion 6 лет назад

      Callinater no, because the marketing would still be hot garbage. And Nintendo's own utilization of the hardware would've been just as bad. Probably would've sold like an n64 or GameCube, but would've been one of the most confusing systems still.

I feel like it's the type of game I'll keep coming back to, to pick up and play randomly and not something I'll devote all of my attention to like BOTW, Stardew, etc. Definitely a great buy if you've never played it.

  • @Syntherus
    @Syntherus 6 лет назад +1

    Hyrule Warriors was the port I wanted most. I put a hellava lot of hours in the Wii U version. Solo play had the occasional frame drop but co-op was unplayable. I eventually hit the point where I kind of needed a second player to beat some of the adventure mode maps but with an average of 20 or less fps and a whole 5-10 enemies on screen at any given time it became way less effective to play in co-op when in theory it should have made things much easier. So between the superior frame rate and the Legends content that I have not played, it's like playing the game for the first time. This time I'll complete everything.

I'm glad they're able to reach a broader audience, but it's almost like people who have or had a Wii U are getting shafted in favor of people who just jumped on board for the Switch. There weren't many games I didn't buy on Wii U in terms of Nintendo exclusives. So far Bayonetta 2 is the only port that's come out that I didn't already own. Ports are all right but I think Nintendo needs to make more effort to space them out with new games.

      Chris Dodd you do realise that removing ports won’t speed up development of new games.

      @chrisdodd4014 6 лет назад +1

      Who said anything about removing or doing away with ports? All I said is give people something new more often and port a little less. Space them out more. While I feel like I'm being left in the cold because I've nothing new to play on my Switch other than indie titles, I don't think ports are a bad thing. I don't have to like them, I don't have to defend Nintendo padding their library with them. Quality new games will always be better and for the system overall than a bunch of ports form a generation ago.

    I never had a Wii U so I don't mind the ports :P
    To be honest I have actually double dipped on quite a few games I already owned on the PC....for example Doom, Skyrim, Darkest Dungeon, Rocket League and others... I just love the portable aspect of the Switch....
    As far as ports are concerned there are actually three in particular I would absolutely love to see, but I don't think we will...
    1. The Legend of Zelda: Twillight Princess HD - I absolutely loved it on the wii and would like to play it again
    2. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - Same as above
    3. The Legend of Zelda: Windwaker - One of the few Zelda games that I never got the chance to play....

    I see these types of games more like an action RTS than a standard hack and slash as there are so many different things to consider while playing such as controlling different characters to do different things on the battle field, meeting requirements to activate the golden skulltulas, then trying to locate them on the map and then trying to locate them before they run away.
    Not to mention the multiple fail scenarios that occur not only if you die, but if the wrong character flees the battle field or a keep falls. There's a lot to think about in this game and it can feel quite overwhelming sometimes if you don't strategize, especially if you've only got control of one character as the game does like to chuck multiple things at you at the same time on the battle field lol.
    I love this game as it is always keeping you on your toes. Sure it's perfect for short bursts but also for long play sessions once you really get in to it.

    I find it funny that you did this video on this game considering this one has the most added value of any of the previous ports. Double frame rate, split screen co-op, all DLC, reworked adventure map rewards. This is the only one I'm not upset is full price considering all the added content. I got the DLC for the original, but never finished it. But, this time, I feel like doing all of it. I was upset that the 3DS content never made it to the Wii U, even as payable DLC, so I'm hype to play this now

    Saying Hyrule Warriors: DE is a port of the Wii U version is kinda false. It's more like this:
    Wii U vanilla Hyrule Warriors + Season Pass DLC + some free DLC (3 characters + 1 storyline) = Not even Hyrule Warriors Legends yet
    Not even Hyrule Warriors Legends yet + new game mechanics + another new free story + new characters = Hyrule Warriors Legends (the 3DS base game)
    Hyrule Warriors Legends + a second round of season pass = Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition
    Clearly, people should stop saying it's the Wii U port. It clearly ain't.

    I actually think that even if you've played the Wii U version and liked it, you should still get this version. Primarily because of all the 3DS exclusive content that made it into the game. I've been loving it all over again, but I love finally being able to play through Linkle's Tale and I can't wait until I unlock all the Majora's Mask and Wind Waker characters that I never got to play with in the Wii U version. If you've played both Wii U and 3DS versions though, then it's up to you. I still recommend this game either way because it's so fun to play.

      They're not abandoning the core audience, what they are trying to do is to give some life to some great games that very few people actually bought and played. It also means that they bring in more revenue which means they can have brand new switch exclusives like Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon with much bigger budgets.

    • @TylerAldrich

      s leach The WiiU did not bring in good revenue so they had to release the switch with a depleting audience and unsupportive developers that starting to believe Nintendo was dying. Now that the money is coming in and developers are bought into the system we are going to see a lot of new amazing games. The only problem is it takes time for quality games to be made and Nintendo didn’t really prove itself as a contender in the industry until last year.

    • @MattMattMan
      @MattMattMan 6 лет назад +4

      That's fair enough, but hang in there. Hopefully the fact that they are taking long means that they are trying to perfect their NEW releases for us.

      Linkling - yes but when developing a game for more than one console devs *always* make with the console that has the lowest specs in mind so it still runs smoothly for it. BoTW *is* in fact a Wii U game ported to Switch. same goes for Persona 5 being a PS3 game ported to PS4.

    • @brucemcfarling7810
      @brucemcfarling7810 6 лет назад +3

      Dysth Ymia: But when it's a day and date release, it's a fundamentally different issue, since someone reviewing the Switch or PS4 version doesn't have to address whether to buy it if you've already finished it on the Wii U or PS3.

    @dhi_holo9341 6 лет назад +1

    The ports are great for me, as there's a bunch of WiiU games I wish I could have owned, but I didn't own a WiiU as it was too much money for something that would sit on the tv unused for ages.
    With the Switch, I can play the games more often and the ports really help to give me more games I wanted.
    Mario Kart 8, Pokken Tournament, both games I wanted but couldn't get until their ports.
    Hyrule Warriors was something I got interested in after BotW, and I didn't feel like hunting around Australia for a 3DS version.
    Mario Maker on 3DS is pure garbage, so here's hoping for that.

    I don't mind the ports, and I'm glad I kept the Wii U games I wanted like Hyrule Warriors and Bayonetta 1 (not playing it for a 3rd time on a different system) and 2. But what really annoys me is that they add extra content that was not available on Wii u and only on Switch such as Funky Kong for DK Tropical Freeze or the Breath of the wild costume in Warriors. I was just glad I didn't buy Pokken for Wii u yet and get the Switch version later. But one wii u game I decided to sell and get the Switch version was Mario Kart 8 all because of the extra characters and stages.

    I'm okay with the ports. I'm just sick of hearing people complain about them. As for Hyrule Warriors, I feel it's slightly different in the "should I buy it again" category. If you bought the Wii U version -- especially if you never bought the DLC -- and enjoyed it enough you'd like to play through it again, I think it's worth it. However, if you bought it on Wii U and 3DS -- especially if you bought the DLC -- it's really up in the air. I personally bought the Wii U and 3DS versions but didn't buy the DLC. I probably shouldn't have bought it a 3rd time, but I love the game so much that I don't mind. Rationally speaking though, I shouldn't have bought it again. Yet, had I only purchased the base Wii U version, it's worth the full $60. There is so much more content in the Switch version compared to the base Wii U version plus you get it portable on a MUCH nicer screen with much nicer controls than the 3DS.

  • @juanpuertas8042
    @juanpuertas8042 6 лет назад

    I'm fine with the ports honestly, I had to choose between purchasing a Wii U and a ps4 3 years ago and I chose the latter, since I was waiting for Zelda(delayed) and on the other console I had Bloodborne. Now that I can afford another system I can pick the games I missed in the Wii U on a console I actually like. The only thing that I miss on the Switch(and on the 3ds I own, but it's very limited) that I could have on Wii U is the virtual console, and it's truly a bummer since I have not played A LOT of Nintendo games, mostly home console games(I could count them with the fingers of 1 hand), and the idea of having them on a portable was one of the reasons I bought it day 1(well, day 2 to be exact).
    Now talking about the game itself, I want to give a try to the musou genre, but I don't know what game I should purchase. I'm a big Zelda fan, but I played Fire emblem Awakening and I loved it, so I don't know if purchase Fire Emblem Warrios or Hyrule Warriors. HW seems to have more content, characters and also runs at 60 fps or near on handheld mode (where I'm gonna play it 99% of the time), but Fire Emblem seems to be a better fit to the genre and I love how all the characters look in the game (compared to 3ds).

  • @Linkman247

    My issue with many of them is the price. I understand they are trying to capitalize on the now larger install base than the WiiU ever had and there are people who never played these games. I get that. But I do think Tropical Freeze is over priced when it's $10 more than what it launched at on WiiU, the only appreciable addition being funky kong which makes it feel like you are paying $10 for an easy mode.
    With other WiiU ports? It at least feels like enough was added to justify the $60 price tag. Even Bayonetta 2 while largely the same still is a good package/value overall with two games for $60. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe added battle mode and the inklings.
    Hyrule Warriors takes content and tweaks from the 3DS version and incorporates them into the Switch version along with sharper textures and an increase in resolution and framerate. It also features two new costumes/skins for Zelda and Link. Also bear in mind that the only way you could have played as Linkle, Skull Kid, Toon Link, Tetra and King Daphnes in the WiiU version is by using a download code that came with Hyrule Warriors Legends. So in essence you needed both the WiiU and 3DS version to have all the characters.
    Furthermore the Switch version sees the gameplay tweaks that were introduced in Legends and later Fire Emblem Warriors added. It's a lot easier to manage the battlefield as a result. The changes on paper may not seem like much, but they are far more extensive than what you get in DKC:TF.

      Callinater remember that tropical freeze originally launched for $50 not 60 as the others have. Again ports like mk8, etc at least added new stuff like battle mode and 2 new characters. Tropical freeze again is charging you $10 for an easy mode, something found in other games by default.

    I'm surprised we haven't heard anything about woolly world yet. It would be cool if it was just included with the new Yoshi game.

    I actually WANT more ports, since I skipped Wii U. I'm so glad Nintendo is doing it. I'd love to get the entire catalogue, specially Tokyo Mirage Sessions, the HD versions of Twilight Princess and Wind Waker and pretty much everything that was good.

    Xenoblade X, Zelda Windwaker, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, and Super Mario Maker. All these Wii U ports on the switch would be amazing.

    I really want to play LOZ: the Wind waker. And i don't want to buy a WII U. So yeah. The can make the ports. I also hope that they will make some other zelda games for the switch, like a Skyward sword HD, og a hero of time collection.
