- By John Prine. This version based on that of the Seldom Scene. This video has been a long time coming. We did not in fact get a noise complaint after filming, although we deserved one. The sirens were for something else.

Josh, like you I play about everything with strings me for 50 years. Last few years I've had a cronic ailment that effects nerves and muscles. Has kept me from my music to a great degree. I am so lucky to have found your videos it takes me back to a better time in my life. You and your friends are a credit to music. Nothing better than a group just making great music at home.
That's horrible to hear, I'm only 14 but if something like that stopped me from making the music that I love, I'd be devastated.
That's what's beautiful about music, that you can still be touched as much listening to someone else as much as when playing it yourself
Ray Britt so sorry that happened to you man. hopefully you will be able to play again soon
Ray Britt that was one of the most inspiring comments I have ever read. Your comment alone has made me want to practice my guitar and ukulele so much more. God Bless you!
totally understand... I have bad tendinitis and am a professional musician.
YOU THREE PLAY TOGETHER MORE. THE INTERNET DEMANDS IT. This is my favourite thing by you ever Josh. Anyone agree?
I agree!!!!!!!!!!
John Doesitintheair they're in a band together called Kingdom Jasmine look in the description of this video for the link
My sister had me listen to these guys, thought they sounded good, but then I found this video of them doing a cover of one of my favorite artists...I suddenly liked them much more. John would be proud, this is a great cover.
Thanks man
They are superb. No two ways about it.
My favorite videos are when you play with Carson, I love you guys together! Cheers!
same here... Bob absolutely nailed it here, though.
they all nailed each other here.
totally, he has the perfect voice for this folky/country song.
You kids even knowing who John Prine is fills my heart.
They're not kids. Clearly they are grown ups who have worked hard on their craft.
I'm 69 years old ..... 61 years playing the guitar ....... you guy are mighty fine !!!!!! Keep on pickin'
These young men make music so enjoyable to hear!
John Prine may have passed away but thanks for keeping his music alive. Thank you.
I was looking around in the gibson custom shop once when it was in the Opry mills mall in Nashville and someone picked up a guitar and started playing this, within a few seconds a couple of other random people - apparently not knowing each other - joined in with instruments they were looking at and played the whole song. When they finished the whole store applauded and everyone just went back to what they were doing. One of the cooler things I ever saw. This just reminded me of it. Great job - you boys should go far.
I’ve never eat anyone who doesn’t like John’s music. I first heard him about a year before he recorded his first album - in about October 1970 - when he was playing at The Fifth Peg a couple CB of blocks away from where I was living. The first time I saw him, I thought this must be how it felt to see Dylan in the Village in the early ‘60’s. I’d go to 2 shows on Friday’s & 3 on Saturdays ($1 cover & 2 drink minimum) because I knew it wasn’t going to be long before he’d be going on to bigger things. But he always seemed to enjoy the small crowds at the Fifth Peg - especially the 3rd show on Saturdays which was usually composed of those of us who lived nearby & were big fans. It was more like hanging out with your friends, one of whom was a great musician.
How cool! Lucky you!! ❤
Dude are you serious? I use to go to that place all the time until it got all flooded out back in 2010
That damn flood wiped it out man I miss that place with all of my heart!
The wonder of music is it brings people together who have never met and they can become immediate friends.
These guys should be signed. No vanity, just talent. Great performance.
65 live in Oz, love what you do , you bring back the best of my musical life, wish you the best steve
Josh and his musical friends are incredible performers. They can play just about any kind of music and play it well.
Rest easy, John.
RIP John Prine today. This version of his song is how I was introduced to John Prine 4 years ago and I thank you for doing that for me. Much appreciated.
Same
Same here in Holland
This is what is missing from Hollywood movies and late night TV or anything that is presented as entertainment by the major networks and studios. Your music is great and very real. Done without a big green screen set up and auto tune. I think you guys could play in Vegas right now, or anyplace you want to play. You are great.
Sir, you are absolutely right! And this i say from germany. Same here. Some real, handmade entertainment would be good for peoples minds nowadays. Thanks for your comment, completely agree
Mostly cause in Hollywood, Appalachian/Southern culture is looked at as the enemies culture/not culture at all.
Very true but it's actually been missing from that scene since the early 2000s
Takes me back to my childhood. Never ceases to impress me with your choice of song. Prine is one of those hidden American gems you can't explain to people who have not had him on loop while life unfolds.
Bob's voice is just so natural for John Prine music. Love this so much!!
I consider myself lucky to live in a time where there are fabulous young musicians like you that we all can listen to for a long time to come.
Nothing better than 3 friends doing what they like most and giving us all a great show in the process! Awesome and I hope you enjoy each other’s company for many years to come and keep giving us such great music to look forward to!
Rest well, John. Your chapter of the Great American Songbook may be closed but the story shall continue.
Listening to this (again) on the third anniversary of John Prine’s death. Love his catalog, love this song and y’all did a fantastic cover!
I love in Carson's verse how he forget's the lyrics and just wings it. Bob laughs, and then Carson looks at him during the chorus like "whoopsie"!!
Not many people (that I know) know this song. I'm always surprised and impressed to find people who do. I learned it as a 6th grader from a teacher who liked to teach me guitar outside on the back steps of the temporary buildings. Thanks, Dean Vogel!!!You gave me something to live for, I was in a sad place in my young life.
Josh knows all kinds of music and people-he is a savant in this regard.
At the end, you guys may laugh at your performance but this was one of your most soulful songs I've heard. You really did it justice.
I bet John Prine would agree that was an amazing cover.
This opened the door for me to the music
of John Prine. Thank you
Man as a Duo...Perfection
Life is great when Josh and company come out with a new video....
Found this video about three years ago when I first started learning guitar. I keep coming back to it and honestly it's probably my favorite recording of any song ever. This video was the first time I ever heard Paradise and in my mind this is the definitive version of John Prine's masterpiece.
I've always used this as a marker for the guitar player I want to be. I've now played this song at probably close to 50 shows and every time I just hope my performance is even half as good as this.
Damn, son! Now I wanna hear your version!
Josh, not only do you have a marvelous voice, you have an ear for great performers. The two of which can take you far. I'm honored to have heard you play and sing withing my lifetime.
For the love of God! Thank you for keeping this music alive!
Thank God that this world has Josh Turner in it! What a blessing! This has brought me SUCH renewal, almost restoration. Carry on, Josh. May you make the magic for many years to come.
William Ruha God bless you, sir.
Fantastic. I am so glad I came across this. This is what music is supposed to sound like. Beautiful singing and playing. Thank you. RIP John, you were golden.
I just can't stop listening to this song. It's been on repeat for 5 hours straight, please help.
When harmonies are good, really good, there is a phantom that's created, nobody, everybody...you guys have created that phantom
carson has an amazing voice
This is my favorite version of this song.
Praying and pulling hard for John Prine today. This is the best cover of his work you'll ever find.
I thought I was the only 90s baby who loves John Prine. This makes me unbelievably happy great job!
Honestly the best version I’ve heard
Agreed. They sing this song better than John, himself, did.
One of Josh's special talents is actually the singing of the songs-not simply singing notes and words. And he grows this on out by having all the other young talent he encounters learn to do this too. Singing songs with the emotion of the story it is telling captures a special, powerful message/meaning. To sing a song that matches the joy or sorrow or whatever emotion it was written in is a game-changer.
It's probably embarrassing how many times I've listened to this. It's hard to say when you're at your "best," Josh, but you're so evidently having a blast here. I'd love to hear more like this.
Well said.
These videos are why I love RUclips, great.
I'd like to thank you all three of yours for the quality music moment, for the pleasure of watching enjoy and having fun and for making me discover artists and styles I don't usually listen to.
John Prine might be gone now, but his light will keep on shining forever.
My all-time favorite folk song. I've never heard a bad cover of it. This one is *excellent!*
I can't believe I've never heard of you until now. You sir both have and are a gift. Thank you for keeping the good stuff alive.
Right? Found this channel about a month ago on recommended videos. How is this man not famous?
4.07.2020 .. You guys do this song justice and I'm sure Mr. Prine is glad to be back in Paradise.
Being from Kentucky, and a bluegrass fan, this is really smooth. Musicianship is superb.
Richard, if you haven't seen their version of Vincent Black Lightening, it is worth a listen: ruclips.net/video/fQK2xFOAxrI/видео.html They are teens in this video.
Muhlenberg county native here. We like this song. A lot. I moved away to Bowling Green with my family about 10 years ago, but this song reminds me of Rochester and the Green River. My dad loves it especcially. Great cover guys.
Extremely good. I'm figuratively stunned.
Gotta love young folks playing old John Prine. Great job gents!
Needed to come back to this today
Still on my playlist 4 years later. What a great cover.
This is my favorite song I’m so glad this was recommended
Another spectacular performance. The future continues to brighten!
This is pure American music!
You three are an insane trio. I'm talking Soggy Bottom Boys + Johnny Cash good. Seriously amazing!
But these guys actually have original music? Cash was just a cover man with an image that sold
@@Jay-ft3xh I never much cared for Cash as a singer. This pure bluegrass singing is so much better
This song was a great way to start the new year
Thanks.. you did John Prine justice..Josh you and your friends are the best on Utube.. big fan of your work 😎 keep up the good work and God Bless 😎
Fantastic I could listen all day
Man, that Martin.. you can see how much music's come out of that thing over the years. Beautiful, dudes!
Good job from a lifelong Muhlenberg County citizen!
Agreed, I’m from right down the road in caneyville.
This was my grandfather's favorite song. He had worked in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, and said it was flat land, so the big shovels dug down into the earth, and what hills there were, they just took them out completely. Great singing, gentlemen, great guitar and banjo and mandolin, too!
love what you guys are doing! Josh, when you belted out that "Its too late in asking" bit at the end, nearly fell out of my chair... jeesh!
i downloaded this and dead ass listen to this like every day
John Prine is so proud of you ! Great music :)
this is too pure for this world
Noise complaint lol. Entertainment value is off the scale! Sick talent... you three are amazing!!
just blows my mind. truly awesome.
Excellent as usual. Love when Josh and Carson get together and great guitar playing also
You three young men have an incredible amount of magic amongst you. There is undoubtedly a place on this earth where you could flourish.
Didn't notice until today (and I've watched and listened more than once) but it appears that Carson flubbed the lyrics, knew he was flubbing the lyrics, but was cool enough to keep on going at about 2:18 in the third verse. At least, the reaction of Bob Barrick indicates he knew that Carson got it wrong and still was chill enough to continue.
Bottom line: Lot of joy for them and me in this version.
Best Prine cover I have ever heard.
Over the top! Love the trio!! Love how you have so much fun! What a gift each of you have. Combined= Wow!
Thanks for making my day!
First heard this song end of S segall movie Fire Down Below I loved it ,,,now U loonies just made me replay this song 5 times !!!!!! love it,,,Thank you
Carson's voice is heaven sent, Josh, he can can play anything with strings and possibly everything else and Bob.....Bob has the Prine 🖕🏻 to a T. Knows he's a great talent but doesn't need the attention. His hair says it all! Fellas, this is gold. The last couple days I saw the top 20 on RUclips and it's a bunch of gamers, no disrespect to the gamers, but this blows all that crap away. Be proud....
Great job guys!!!! I live here in Kentucky and worked at a little minute mart store when I was a teen ager just down the road Peabody Coal. I remember the workers from Paradise (Peabody Coal) would come in on their way to work. This old songs brings back good memories.
The banjo is such an incredibly joyful instrument, as well as being incredibly fun to play! Please keep that banjo part of the team!
I had you "Yee haw!!!" to nobody in an empty room here up in the urban Northeast. This took this youg man with an old soul back to the backwaters, hollars, and prairies of this gorgeous country. Thank you brothers!!!
Alright, y’all, I’m back again to listen to this cover on repeat until I die! On a more serious note, this video is the reason I decided to try and start a band this coming year. This past school year (freshman year of college) was hell for me mentally and emotionally, but the idea to start a band turned into a full-blown plan to get my mental health in order. So if I’m back here next summer singin’ this video’s praises again and talking about a much better year, know that y’all were a big part in making that happen. This is what music should be-a fun, expressive experience shared between friends. It doesn’t matter what genre, instrument, style, or song. So long as everybody’s having fun, that’s how it should be going. Bob and Carson’s joking, Bob’s ecstatic grin throughout, and Josh’s crazy natural and expressive banjo fills all indicate to me that y’all were having a good time. And trust me when I say that that translates into the screen. If y’all didn’t look like you were having the time of your lives, this would still be a technically brilliant bluegrass cover, but the emotional expression really ties it all together and makes it an experience worth having more than once. Thank you all very much for the video.
I wish I could “like” this a thousand times! This song sometimes pops in my head from a childhood memory of hearing my parents and friends play it. So I went on a search to feel the nostalgia. Y’all are SO SO GOOD! Thanks for doing this. I’ve been down a rabbit hole now listening to all your awesome covers.
Josh & company, thanks for polishing up this Prine classic, that's as good a cover of the tune as I have ever heard. Love the banjo fills, the tight timing, and the harmony coming from singing your asses off! Keep up the great work and play, and thanks again for sharing.
Your voices made me smile! But your pleaure in making music with eachother made my heart melt
I'm glad to see you back with your friends making videos again! This was amazing!
Omg I just fell in love with this
RIP John, get well soon Fiona. By the way this is one of the best versions I’ve ever heard.❤️🇬🇧❤️
still one of my favorites. such good energy in this one
Glad you've revive some of these older classics and you guys are such wonderful players please keep it up keep them coming you are a gift!
I'm home alone clapping my hands. Bravo!
Beyond the performance that is always top quality, what's really making me enjoy your videos is the positivity & joy you guys give off ! Having a blast together, that's what music is all about. Your videos cheer me up so much!
Pierre Jambert ditto x 10
No words...just great!
R.I.P John Prine - 7 April 2020
just awesome boys!
This is sad song for me. 😢. The Peabody Coal train literally stripped and hauled away the county that I was born in, Gibson County, Indiana. It used to be a lush green county. Now if you if look at it on Google Earth, the entire county is brown dirt. There is not a spot of green on it anywhere. 🥵
Wow, bummer
Absolutely love this.
This is just stunning; good Lord that was great.
These guys bring me great hope that real music is still alive and thriving
Having grown up in Appalachia (Clay County...near Harlan and just below Hazard...think Nine Pound Hammer), I can tell you that you boys have captured the sound. You fellas sound great as a trio - each brings his own style and sound to the music. Well done. I enjoy your old-time music style and look forward to hearing what you come up with next.
I recently commented on a 'Sixteen Tons' video by two of these guys. I mistakenly gave Merle Travis credit for 'Nine Pound Hammer.' You're from Clay County. I'm from Hopkins, next door to Muhlenberg. I once joked that half of the first was kin on my dad's side and half the other county on my mom's. Mom grew up with the Everly Brothers and her dad was deacon and song leader at Ebenezer Church, where Merle's family is buried and a monument to him was put up. Merle's sister was one of my grandmother's best friends for many years. I interviewed her and Mose Rager (spelling?) for a school paper about Merle right after he died. I was lucky enough to meet John Prine, too.
I agree this is a good cover. You can also catch this style offline at songfests all across Kentucky if you know where to look. Sometimes big name artists sneak in to stay in touch with their musical roots.
This is one of my favorite videos on RUclips.
Wish i was the Noise Complaint guy, I would have stayed for the concert!
Tou guys are GREAT, Josh you are superb!

Reminds of going camping with my family. My dad would play guitar and my sister would sing. I grew up listening to many a John Prine song. I appreciate how much of that genre is on this channel and how well it is executed
