Words cannot express my gratitude for your comment. Thank you for watching and taking the time to experience this video series created from admiration and respect for Led Zeppelin. I am very much into the emotional construction of not only artists but my surroundings and try to understand what moves us as people to embark on projects and if possible, make the world a place worth living in. Every script i write is done from a place of empathy and thought, more than views and likes, i am interested in using music to connect us in the energy of possible and reflection. Your words encourage me to keep going! Hope you enjoy "Season 4" coming up :)

@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories What you tell us in your reply here, the intangibles you're attempting to isolate are the very things that drew me to your stories over time. But still, there's more to it, because I very much liked the first video I found, roughly a year ago.
      I am an empath.
I don't want to ramble on and lose my grasp on what I'm trying to say. What you seek may not be attainable even though you've found it! Sort of like Zeppelin?

You channeled my feelings about “Celebration Day” precisely. I’ve been a “full catalog” fan since the late 80s, including whatever boots I could get my hands on, but I resisted purchasing this album until literally 2 weeks ago. Seeing your first installment reminded me that I needed to bite the bullet and give it a chance. I started with the blu ray video of the concert, and it actually beat my expectations by quite a lot. I ended up with a sense of peace that, if this stands as the final official statement of the band, I’m alright with it. I was proud of them for giving their all for one final gig together with Jason.

Firstly, yet again another brilliant documentary by JCM. So, thank you.
Robert Plant is actually the true keeper of the flame when it comes to Led Zeppelin. When John Bonham died, the remaining members said there is no Led Zeppelin without him, and there absolutely isn't. Plant has always been the one who said "no" because he kept his promise. Inviting Jones onto the Unledded album would have made it virtually Led Zeppelin again. It was harsh on JPJ but I think it was deliberately calculated. The 2007 reunion was the perfect end after the failed attempts of 1985 and 1988. Jason Bonham filling his father's footsteps for the last ever gig was the right way to go out. If Page, Jones and Jason had gone on the road after the 02 concert with any other singer than Plant, it would have tarnished the legacy of a great, great band and sacrilege.
"We wish it to be known that the loss of our dear friend and the deep respect we have for his family, together with the sense of undivided harmony felt by ourselves and our manager, have led us to decide that we could not continue as we were."

My family is in the third generation of Zeppelin fans. And it’s wonderful to see how many Japanese kids want to be drummers and guitarists inspired by Bonham and Jimmy (bassists and keyboardists too). There is an interesting case, a girl who has been playing drums since she was three years old, she is self-taught, she heard Led Zeppelin and immediately identified with Bonham sound. She went viral on the internet with a cover of Good Times Bad Times and it’s worth watching Robert Plant’s reaction to this video, she was endorsed by Page in Heartbreaker. Many believe she is Bonham reincarnated…you can be sure that in Japan Zeppelin will never be forgotten. I look forward to Season 4!

Got my first Zep album (IV) in 1972. Literally wore it out. Attended the '77 Seattle Kingdome concert. The acoustics were bad but the experience was surreal. Saw Plant in '83 and Page/Plant at The Gorge, an outside amphitheater in George, Washington, in '98. All of this I experienced with my best friend, David McRae, who turned me on to Zepplin in High School. When Celebration Day was released I invited him over to watch it on my new 55" Panasonic plasma flat screen with Bose sound system. Similar to the Kingdome experience the quality of the sound (which was fine) took a back seat to the emotional experience of seeing a proper reunion (with Jason). It was a very special experience.

Another fantastic installment...ty so much. One of my favorite things about the O2 show is something very subtle: when Zeppelin played back in the 1970s, and they were in the middle of a transition within a song, one member of the band would nod or wink to the others that a "break" or transition was coming ...a silent way of keeping everyone on the same page. In the O2, every time a transition was upcoming, Jimmy would turn and walk towards Jason, and look directly at him, as if to say: "you ready? We're about to change-up." Not only does this show that Jimmy was very sensitive to the pressure that Jason must have been under, but it was a very loving - almost fatherly - way of holding his hand....leading him in the right direction. Every time I watch the DVD I see this and think how mature and caring a gesture this is from Jimmy towards Jason. It also shows how in-command Jimmy was that night, as opposed to previous reunions. Jimmy was locked-in.

Great work again. Living in Japan, I was able in ‘12 to see possibly the first screening in the world of CD as it worked its way around the globe. I made my trek to the cinema in south Nagoya, Japan (one show in the evening). It was a good turnout of respectable older Japanese in their suits and dresses who hadn’t forgotten their youth. The sound could’ve been a little better, but the big screen was magnificent. I take credit for getting the reserved audience clapping and cheering between the tunes. It was all a poignant reminder of those midnight movies of TSRTS back in the day, which were crazy debauched events like going to an actual concert (the only way most would ever see an actual Zep concert) On that note, my friend and I had tickets for Richfield Coliseum, Cleveland ‘80, but Bonzo had other plans 😢.Keep up the great work.

Once again, kudos to you on this latest series! Loved watching it, and as someone who was at the O2 show, it really made me smile with some great memories. I was also underwhelmed with the CD audio mix. It really causes ear fatigue to listen to it at any decent rock & roll volume. But, I did grab it up as soon as it was released, and was happy to have it, and loved seeing the rehearsal video bonus. Seeing the film when it was shown on the big screen was outstanding. The detail presented that I simply never got from either being at the show or from the bootlegs was just amazing to see.
I'll give you one other insight into Jason's activity leading to his JBLZE shows. The Zep tribute band I was in at the time, got the attention of Jerry Greenberg, the former prez of Atlantic Records, who was interested in working with us. One of the first things he did was arrange for Jason to come to one of our shows, and sit in with us. This was early 2009. Jerry thought that Jason might be interested in appearing as a special guest with us on a tour, which would really help to book the band in bigger and better venues. At the end of the day, Jason opted not to do that, and pretty soon afterwards, came out with his JBLZE band. I have no idea if he already had the thought of forming his own tribute band before he came to our show, but it seems to me that seeing what we did and the crowd response we were getting to playing Zep music live might have given him the idea!
Here's a video my wife shot of Jason's song with us. Once again, congrats on the great videos!

I've been watching the 1990s series with such enjoyment of late, so once again, thank you for your relentless work. It's a thing of beauty. In a fair world, the LZ estate should endorse this and fund it, but hey...
Had to come back and watch the Trilogy of Celebration Day episodes as it's raining here in Walsall ( five miles from where Robert was born, the echoes of LZ history resonates round here still. I even taught his nephew's family in my job as a guitar teacher) so I haven't moved from the sofa this afternoon, lost down another LZ rabbit hole. I'm indebted to you.
Those last lines of the last episode and the simplicity of a car journey, some music and the joy those moments bring brought a tear to my eye. Xxx❤❤❤

An endorsement would be nice, but maybe a limitation you know? Glad i have such an awesome community of Zepp fans like yourself. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the end...it triggered that same emotion as i was writing it so trust me, it means a lot. The 2020 Pandemic looks so bizarre now that everyone is back at the "old normal BS" of hey "remote work is not productive, come back to the office". It seems "less car pollution" to save the Planet is NOT a priority anymore right?

I've never been an audiophile (not a knock on those who are) which can be a blessing because I loved this release immediately. My ear is drawn in by composition, energy and the moment. I am not that much on an audiophile in the sense that like you, i value the composition and that's the magic of many 70s records but yeah, the technology these days that engineers try to convince you of using, that's why i record at home and work on my stuff the way i see it. Society today is walking towards automation at worrying pace. Good that we still have music to go back to :) Thank you for watching the series Mat! Stay tuned for Season 4!

So this is one of my favorite episodes. @JCM you brought not only the good the emotion and even the bad of this show but most of I think you brought out the elephant in the room. As great as this was it was not Led Zeppelin and that's not disrespect to anyone. This is what I'm getting and I think it's pretty much how I felt about the show. It was a tribute to the music they produced for Amet on that night. I always wanted a reunion. Live Aid was great for me but again there was that feeling again. Atlantic's 40th was great but that feeling again. For me the very first Zeppelin record I ever listened to was not a studio record. My introduction to Zeppelin was a bootleg On Blueberry Hill! I remember it like it was yesterday two vinyls in a plain white double sleeve. Believe Communication Breakdown started it off and it was powerful I was hooked and just thinking of that record that was the difference. The power and the improvisation was not there for any of the reunions. So I guess Robert has been right all along. Like getting those airplanes out of there....na just leave it! Great series!👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏

Wow Thanks John! Yeah i mean the concert was such a special event you can"t help to smile looking at them having one last go at it but musically time passed and well, the ship sailed. Now while Plant was right my on-going research does show a deeper issue that really explains a lot of theit post Zeppelin careers. It's not easy for Page to "move on", some people really miss the fact that it was HIS enterprise back in 1968 hehe. Hope you dig the next series premiering this Saturday.

As always, great content. No, I didn't particularly like Celebration Day (the album) and I think it has more an emotive value (an exclusive one-off reunion) than a musical one. I don't think the downtuning goes along very well with Led Zeppelin dynamics but they did what they had to do and that was great. On the other hand, How the West Was Won and, even more, the Led Zeppelin DVD (released shortly after) are unvaluable. The DVD in particular is the most vivid document of how wide was the musical range (and culture) of the band in its prime. Through your videos I could also appreciate how the decision of Plant of taking distance from the band from 1980 on was actually the right one: it gave him more artistic credibility and he did what he could to get the best out of his career, despite the massive Led Zeppelin shadow. Page did not have the same determination and I'm saying this as a massive Page fan.

    • @tektoniks_architects

Led Zeppelin was the culmination of Jimmy's professional life. After his session work and the Yardbirds, Jimmy was the founder and creator of the greatest rock band of all. There was and is no higher plateau after that for Jimmy. Despite the band being 4 musical equals, it was Jimmy's band, completely. He was the founder, the leader, the architect, the visionary, the keeper of the legacy, and the main driving force behind the music. He wrote 90% of the music and songs, and was the person most responsible for their career path. All Jimmy ever wanted was to celebrate that achievement, moving forward...but without Robert, that's not possible. Robert is loyal to Bonzo, and would never tour as Led Zeppelin, having gotten out from under that shadow. So while Robert is free to experiment and create as he wishes, Jimmy will always reminisce about his greatest creation. It's part of a long-standing tension between Jimmy and Robert that has probably always existed despite their success, was elevated after Karac Plant died and Plant felt he was slighted by Jimmy, and the final blow being struck when Bonzo died. To some extent, I believe Robert will always carry a small amount of resentment towards Jimmy for the death of his friend.

Another great episode. I always took The O2 show as their way to feel relief that they finally pulled off a post Zeppelin show successfully. I was hoping for a tour but knew it was not likely. All the wear and tear for a tour at their age and at the level of skill required to overcome scrutiny was not practical. Besides, they don't need the money. Sure, Plant toured a lot, but he did it almost under the radar where the expectation was not and the top of the mountain Zeppelin level. Note: There is nothing available that matches the detail and the passion for Led Zeppelin as what you post in this series. Saludos!

Fantastic work with this episode, as always. I've never bought any of the various versions of CD, and never really had any interest in doing so. Honestly, I was well-contented with the bootlegs that had appeared shortly after the concert took place, as many of them were very well done and really captured the feel of their live performance. It's only been in the last few years that watching the official release provided a new perspective on it, and you really nailed my own thoughts on it. I'll probably end up buying a version at some point. Well, maybe. It's all here on RUclips. This isn't like the BBC Sessions release from back in 1997, which was a day one purchase for me and was more than worth the money I paid for it. That, to me, was the best representation of Led Zeppelin's live performance that's been officially released.

2018, Enville fair, Staffordshire England, Robert Plant is near by, and donates to the various dog charity and local charity stalls, and i win a copy of celebration day.
Untill that point i too had resisted buying a copy.
I have been a fan since i was a kid, i have seen our local hero Bob Plant in all his bands, even the sevret gig of " The Priory of Brian" at Dudley Zoo, and I have seen him doing covers with local bands at pubs, and I also see him in our local villages, so it is suprising that I never felt the urge to buy Celebration day.
I plyed it a few times and even copied it to my mp3 lists on my laptop and phone. I stoll play the tracks on random shuffle on my phone in the car, and i never press next track when it turns up as i drive, so maybe I too have now accepted it as a Zeppelin album.....

Thank you once again for your insights and expertise! I've always wondered by the band didn't play Good Times throughout their 70's tours. It's a great explosive opener, contains one of their coolest riffs, and doesn't go into super high vocal territory. This rendition proves how effective it could have been. And I loved that they did Ramble On. One of my favorites, and very well done here. On another note, the Stairway version they do here seems mournful and resigned rather than hopeful and uplifting, but I think it really works--maybe reflecting how things might have been if the dream hadn't ended so tragically--at least those were my feelings when I heard it. Finally, what's with Jimmy's guitar sound? It seems awash in effects. I would have preferred a more solid stripped down rocking guitar sound. Less is more. Cheers!

JCM, another brilliant episode. I can never thank you enough for all the hard work you put into this project. Yes, Celebration Day was too polished. I thought the same thing with the live version of the movie/concert, "Song remains....." Honestly, I wish they would release raw footage of all the phone videos. At least there would be some realism to it. I'll stick to my guns stating that the big reason this concert happened was the backlash the band was getting with the youtube videos of old blues songs that were ripped off by Jimmy. Percy wanted to protect the legacy of Zep....and it worked. Throughout watch your brilliantly made video, I have a saddened response to Jimmy and why he didn't push on with his music. He could've went the route like Carlos Santana or Jeff Beck and just toured venues with guest singers while releasing albums. It's sooooooo disappointing. Clearly, Jimmy has always been a follower with his shyness and insecurity leading him. He never looks comfortable in the public.

Raw footage from cellphones, yes, that's the way to enjoy such an event really. Your theory on why this happened is interesting though, i need to let that thought sink in. Jimmy is a shy man, no matter what they say. Looking at the band's psychology let's say, he really lost his manager and music soul brother in John Bonham. It makes me wonder why Ahmet Ertegun didn't take him more under his wing you know? Not blaming Ahmet, but it just puzzles me how their careers post Zepp seemed to have been complicated because they DIDN'T want to reunite under the name again. Makes you think how the industry likes revolving doors and bands carrying on with the show at any cost. Thank you very much for watching Astroman, i enjoyed reading your comment!

I never noticed that the drum sound on Celebration Day was actually bad... it's not the same of course, because everything that goes into making the sound of a drum is different from previously (the construction and size of the sticks, shells, heads and hardware). Don't forget the hands... I bought the closest equipment I could afford to getting Jimmy's Les Paul / Marshall / Ernie Ball / Vox wah sound. Then we get to my hands... i was oh sooooooo glad that they did "For Your Life." Presence has got to be by far the most criminally underrated album ever. Whining about no softer stuff or a lack of variety just shows a lack of knowledge about the band. They stated - very clearly and very on - that their albums were "a statement of where we were at that time."

Thanks for making these series', José. I was away from the rock scene through the 80's onward, and wasn't impressed with a lot of what was coming out, so I didn't keep tabs after Plant's early solo career.
I did see Page and Plant live in '97. I thought it was just okay, really. But the interview videos onYT from that period are great! Especially the Australian ones.
I didn't know anything about the behind-the-scenes with the reunions politics, and the first time I ever saw Jason Bonham, or knew he followed in John's footsteps was the O2 show! Have you ever seen JPJ play acoustic Zeppelin with Paul Gilbert from Mr. Big? Seriously great stuff.

Another excellent job JCM, you are the high priest of all things Led Zeppelin. As for the Celebration Day releases, I avoided buying it because, to me, it is like a facsimile of the great LZ. I was a young guy when they were the biggest band in the world, I saw them at Pontiac Silverdome in '77 and I just have a hard time seeing them all ''controlled' and staying away from the improvised jamming that, I believe, Robert laid down the law of no jamming! or else he wouldn't do it. I could be wrong, but it just seems to me that Robert has Jimmy over a barrel regarding LZ.

'For Your Life' is definitely a high point. It sounds much more funkier than I remember fom the studio album. I think it's a shame they didn't end with 'I'm Gonna Crawl' from ITTOD. It would have been a poignant bookend to the show

It does sounds funkier right? The way the Les Paul makes that riff come to life, makes me think that the 1975 sessions were so against the clock that the Strat sacrificed much of the beefy tone in favor of slick production. Thank you very much for watching the series! Stay tuned for more!

SO many good things that you serve up in this series. Have you any JCM original music, lessons, etc.? Maybe others would like to experience JCM music as well. IMHO, Jones stands a little taller than the others. He seems the most level of the lot. Also, he may be as/more accomplished as producer Page. He had a stellar resume prior to ZEP. Thomas,
      Well said 👏
I'm take the minority view and agree with Robert Plant's view that to reunite Led Zeppelin for nothing mote than nostalgia and a handful of promoters becoming filthy rich.
It would ruin their legacy. Look at KiSS, the Stones, Eagles and in particular Deep Purple. Deep Purple should have called it a day after the failure of the House of Blue Light in 1986.
Led Zeppelin as a band ended on the 25th September, 1980.
Live Performance: - Knebworth in August 1979. Yes they played a 16 day tour of Europe in 1980. These performances are, or were dismissed as too stripped down.
      Celebration Day - 6 / 10
I gave it a 6 out of 10 rating on Amazon. Back in the day Amazon was where you wrote deep, incisive reviews. Amazon ditched this approach circa 2015.
      Trolled
I was abused and Trolled. How could I give the greatest ever rock band such a low rating. I compared Celebration Day to The Song Remains the Same and How the West was Won. The latter, How the West was Won was a contentious effort in itself when we found out there were hundreds of overdubs
E.g. Black Dog was spliced from three different concerts
I asked many Zeppelin 'fanatics' who had discovered Led Zeppelin in 2007 ' how can you give Celebration Day 10/ 10; the Song Remains the Same 10/10 and How the West was Won 10 out of 10.
One inane reply was 'but it's Led Zeppelin and they get 10/ 10 as their perfect. That person's Comments lead to a wake up call for real fans aged 43.
Other reviewers, in particular guitar players, eventually, backed me up. They said Celebration Day was good, but definitely not great. Yes, the songs were too stripped down, and, there was no great build up as there was on prior live albums.
I also said that Jimmy took a grunge tone to certain songs.
Time moved on my review forgotten.
A few years later I received a notice from a fan on Amazon.
She said " a Canadian reviewer lifted your review from Amazon. No, they didn't copy it whole, but they took your first two poignant paragraphs as well as your key points and expanded on your observations.
The Canadian reviewer went on a diatribe on the fact that Jimmy Page did in fact 'grunge the chords' on certain songs.
Oh Yeah. Amazon soon after completely deleted my review of Celebration Day.
