CHANGED THE VIDEO TITLE!!! Seems like a lot of people thought I was taking Mania down a peg when I called this game better than Mania, so I must’ve fucked up expressing my point 😭 my fault gang! I love both games and I’m a suuuper pro-Mania Sonic fan, so the title was meant to show just how good this game is in comparison to a game that is generally VERY well received (putting both games on a very prestigious pedestal). Evidently that’s not what came across so uh… my fault yall, I’ll just call it peak and move on.
Its good, but not better or comparable to Mania or a professional game. There is too much emptiness in many of the levels despite the player running straight for long periods of time. The city level is so cluttered that its so obviously a fan game.
I disagree with the "Sega hire them" talk. Working for Sega means the same rush schedule standard developers get. If Sega told them to redo that city level, chances are it will just get cut. Sonic 2 was made in 10 months. Point is, working for Sega would require making many levels in a short period. If it took them this long to make 3 zones, there is no evidence they could make 10-14 zones at a professional pace
6:30 To be fair in Sonic Mania Plus, they replaced Blue Spheres with a Pinball machine, that way you can gain shields, rings, and lives while playing Peakball.
Sonic’s movement feels so freaking good in this game man, the drop dash up the wall feels like a real DIRECT evolution the drop dash and the amount of times it saved me falling to the bottom path is insane. If Sonic Mania is Sonic 4 then this is Sonic 5
18:20 because the original games were running in mind that the action button will be the only button you need. That's why you use one and the same button for jumping, spinning, insta-shield/dropdash, turning super, etc. I guess it's like this with every Sonic game, because A) it's made by veterans that don't want to change the old ways of action button in Sonic games, or B) they are just doing it for the sake of making it feel like an old Sonic game. In every aspect it's just dumb and we should normalise to use more than 1 button for everything.

Huge agree on the Mania blue spheres. I love that game, but i have to intentionally pace myself to not get tired of them lol Also, i really respect the balls to make a completely underwater act
something I love is how they make it so knuckles glide keeps your speed, you do a full spin dash and glide and you just… go insane…. Makes me enjoy playing knuckles even more than other games
If you haven't yet, go through Coral Garden as Knuckles 👀 18:20 Haven't tried Sonic Eclipse or Sonic Requeset, have you? I think it's becoming the new norm to let us use shield powers and character abilities at the same time. Although I feel like it might be a little too much power sometimes when it comes to Tails and Knuckled. Galactic has a good balance by limiting that to just Sonic. Anyway, great video, you're better at keeping your thoughts straight while playing than I am for sure

I like this... Talking over gameplay and reacting to it in real time... It's good! (If this is how you make your vids, I'm sorry. This is my first time watching you). This game is AMAZING, it's my first time hearing about it as well and OH MY GOODNESS, IT'S PEAK... The pixel art is incredible and the platforming is great as well. What stood out to me most was the Luminoucity Act 2. I personally don't like it when new "fan made" characters are put into Sonic games, but this red robot that you see time to time in the act gives me HUGE Metal Sonic vibes and I'm all for it. Additionally, the boss fight is amazing. It may be long, but it's the background that caught my attention. The different characters watching as Sonic fights the boss is what I wish there was more of in games. I love the fact that when you either take damage or hit the boss, they also have their own reactions and it just makes the whole scene feel more realistic. The small cameos (Honey the Cat, Feels the Rabbit, RISTAR, etc). Are all just so sweet to see. And finally, when you leave the stage, you can see Metal Sonic in the back watching you leave, and just THAT DETAIL makes you aware of the tension between the two, and how he might even come later in the game. All in all... It's just PEAK!!!

This is the first I have heard of this game, Downloaded it. Had a blast! I really love the wall drop dash, It's a nice save for if you miss a wall. It's just enough to get you to the platform you want to get to without having to resort to pizzatower/lost world wall running. Lovely stuff.
That water level is absolute FIRE. That red robot reminds me of Johnny from Sonic Rush Adventure. Also random tangent, but what the heck does the leaf shield do?

It also has its own visual aesthetic which Mania has as well, but Mania felt a bit more “in line” with the other classics. This one feels like a true evolution/unique visual take on the character + the level design and stage gimmicks, special stage/bonus stage, all that are super cool. Obviously both are fire tho lol

If they worked for Sega, in February they would start making the game, then November would be the release date. Then the world will judge their game design skills based on the product. Unless they are really good at fast paced work its another Sonic 06 situation. And that only depends on how good they are at fast professional pacing
Sega should work with the developers and officially released this as is. A whole new Sonic game in the classic style with a fuck ton of new shit to make the game fun and interesting. All sega has to do is just publish it.
