We’re making over the dining room!! Last week, I flipped a thrifted dining table off FB Marketplace and this week, we are going to complete the room. The biggest challenge in this area is the fact that it is an open floor plan, so I need to make this area stand on its own. So there are a couple of DIYs I want to do to make that happen, including a wavy console table, a quick sideboard leg swap, and a renter-friendly no-hardwire lighting hack!

Love the console table, but something’s tells me over time you’re probably going to need a center leg. Those whole place is coming together beautifully.

Yeah I came on here to comment on the same thing 😂 make sure you don’t put anything heavy in the centre as that table is way too long without that extra support in the middle. Other than that, looks really nice 😊
I wondered that myself. Some stabilization is needed, I feel. It’s lovely, though, with the scalloped trim!
It will definitely sag. Also, a single 1x8 does not make a table (of that length)(and yes, I understand what a console table is) It requires support.
All she needs to do is put a brace across the bottom.

Agree - so cozy and welcoming! I also agree about two legs in the center of the sofa table. There's something about the dimensions that makes it seem off without them. I think it would be more sturdy and less likely to flex, but mostly it would *look* more sturdy. It's super cute!
I agree with adding at least one more set of legs in the middle as added weight may make it sag in the middle

Great Job Tina! One suggestion...because the length of the table, I would suggest adding a center leg to help support it the top. Otherwise, you risk having it warped. Learn this the hard way!
I was about to say exactly this! The table came out great but it's going to bend in the middle without some additional support.
I like the idea as well but worried it is too narrow and might topple over.
Love the sofa table! I worry about it possibly needing a center support? Hate to see it bow over time.
Going at a slower pace but still taking those steps to change is useful advice for DIYs and life. 😅 Love your furniture builds!

My sideboard was originally a bedroom dresser so it's quite large with a room. It houses all of my grandmother's China and I'll tell all my linens for the dining room which consists of every color runner you could think of for the table

It’s all beginning to look like a home now, lovely. As others have said, a pair of legs in the middle of the console table will be needed because of the span and for stability.

Oh my goodness, this room is beautiful. It has so much style and looks very expensive. And with the Japandi decor items bring so much life to the space. Now I want to put one of the paper lights in my granddaughter's room. She will be 3 in a few weeks, and our gift to her is all the items needed to make her a "big girl" room. I found some smaller Asian lanterns with tassels on them, to hang in a group. I'm sure that that idea came from you as well!!

I love the flow of this space. The sofa table is just too cute. I love the scalloped, curvy, wavy (lol) edges. add personality without looking juvenile, if that makes sense. And incorporating pieces that celebrate your culture is always the icing on the cake for me.

I really like the screen idea but I'm not sure where you would put it and my first thought was that you are an artist, why don't you paint one, my second thought was that hopefully you will find one on marketplace because finding one in Japan and getting it back will be very expensive. Dining area looks amazing. I love that console table. With it being that long, would it possibly sag in the middle over time? Maybe not if objects are only placed on the end? Or maybe eventually add a middle support of some sort?

Absolutely beautiful as always! My only concern is that the console table looks kinda floppy in the center. You might need to add additional support legs. But the roof trim was a spectacular choice and makes this very easy and accessible for beginners!!!

I love the sofa table, I would have never thought to put one there but it really helps define each space! You most likely aren’t done with the space but I think adding drapes to the big windows would make the space feel cozier. Just an idea ❤

My sideboard holds decor items that I am not using at the moment or that gets changed out with the change in season. It also holds our extra water bottles that I want to hide. Oh and it holds stuff for my plants including the watering can. You did a really great job on creating zones in an open concept room. Looks great!

I love how you used the roof stuff for the console table! I was concerned that the table might be bowing a little in the middle - did you add extra support to make sure that won't happen? It turned out beautiful! Also love the paper shade above the table. Well done - very beautiful space!
