I feel it was a good review. I know a lot of people buy action cameras thinking they need it and end up defaulting back to their phone cameras since its more convenient.
Your concerns about the magnet are very valid; it's a standard test for most mobile devices since anything with a speaker has a magnet pretty close to the surface. Magnetic (ferritic) particles are actually present in a lot of sand/dirt, and regularly find their way into people's pockets. The magnets are cool but for an "active" device, it's more for the cool-factor than actual retention to the device. A clip-based system works just as well.
You do you man, you gave us your honest thoughts and did a good job testing the Action 2. Everyone wants to find a reason to fight and hate on everyone else, don't worry about it. Stick to who you are, don't morph to the mass's because you didn't praise the product they were looking forward to being great and buying. DJI might not send you anymore of their products because you were not like "bruh, this is sooooo rad", but if that's the case, then you don't want to work with a company like that anyways.
I didn’t comment the first video, just ignored it but i have to comment this comment. And I didn’t even read comments on the other one so I’m sorry if i’m not totally right about what other people might have complaint but here are my thoughts and reasons why Inignored the other video. I wanted to see reviews of the camera, didn’t want to see it compared to a more than 3 times the price device… furthermore, in my case at least, i use action cameras so I don’t depleate my phone’s battery and so I get a dedicated device for recording the action. Watching a review of the action camera being compared to the phone just didn’t make any sense. But thare’s another reason that is very important, he was comparing to an expensive phone that not that many people own. So the choice was basically: 1 - buy a phone that costs 3 times the price of the camera and risk not having battery in case of emergency or 2- buy a least expensive phone and the camera, still pay less than only buying the phone and you don’t risk not having battery for emergencies…. I think it’s easy to understand why the other video was completely useless and unreasonable. To Fstoppers: thank you for putting in the effort of making another video that actually makes sense to watch
@@asergioamEDC uhhh, ok, not sure why your telling me this, I don’t care, my point was it’s his opinion and creative choice to publish what ever he wants in the way he wants on this platform. Everyone and their brother has a smartphone that can take as good if not better footage than this $500 action camera. If your in the market to drop $500 on this, you definitely have a smartphone that was made in the last 3 years. Stop crying to me and go watch one of the 200 other videos that praise this thing. Your clearly going to buy it anyways if your taking the time to write a novel to me about it. Plus who cares what he compares it to, did you see the images it produced? Was that not good enough for you to see the quality and form your own opinion? The mere fact that he mentions any other device has zero bearing on the more than ample footage that shows this devices capability, which is sufficient for anyone to make a purchasing decision. Just because he didn’t do what YOU wanted doesn’t mean it was wrong.
He was honest He was talking from his perspective and therefore lacking objectivity. The endless possibilities you’ll will get from people who will buy this camera will be seen . Just look at the insta go 2. It’s a newish market, a different pov shooting which impossible with a smart phone. I think that’s what people were peeved about , his broader imagination.
@@TopblokeGolf it’s not a scientific method peer reviewed paper, it’s RUclips. This is not a new market, GoPro tried this in 2013 - 2015 with the session and it didn’t sale. Even if what you say is true how come everyone is not attacking other channels comparing it to the GoPro 10? GoPros are not a new market so the same argument would apply in your theory. Plus if you look at the majority of comments they are supportive of the original video. This is merely a few people who are mad he didn’t praise this thing because they want it to be great so they feel like they didn’t wast their money. In other words people are looking for validation for spending a crazy amount of money on a camera that other than being a bit smaller, has not improved any other aspect in terms of its video quality from the action 1. Which I might add the action 1 still holds up in todays market. I’m not saying there isn’t a place for this camera, hell I’m going to buy one. My point here is that this INDIVIDUAL on RUclips can make art how he see’s fit. Now you and everyone else also has the right to state your opinion, but it does not invalidate what he created or the way he presented it. Everyone here is missing the bigger picture, it’s not about the camera, it’s about his freedom to produce content how he interprets the product in his own personal view.
@@PrestonGladd you’ve misunderstood me, it’s exactly what I’m saying that it’s not about a black and white statement. This guy gave an opinion on a subject that was relevant to his narrow use of a camera. Yes he was right in his world . But not for someone who likes filming from their headwear or chest or magnetically sticking to undercarriages of vehicles etc That’s a relatively new market, show me a video of people doing that before the go 2. My criticism of the author is not his knowledge of cameras but his lack of perspective.
2 questions. #1.) did you enable high quality in the pro settings? by default the compression is set to high which makes the quality crap in my opinion. I chose the high compatibility codec for better quality. #2.) Did you disable the auto temp shut off mode? I switched it from standard to high and that allowed me to record for over an hour with just the main unit without any other modules attached. just potential solutions for the problems you mentioned earlier
That’s good to hear about those 2 features. However, kinda poor form from DJI to have those as the defaults? Perhaps a chunk of the negativity could have been positive - DJI stitched themselves up
Did you change the video compression within the Action 2 before recording for your review? Apparently the default compression is pretty bad and it's recommended to change it before first use.
Long, long overdue GoPro Session 5 replacement! For RC plane and quadcopter FPV filming, the 56g and Rock-Steady are prime attractions. But I'm not rushing out to buy one until the temperature issues are resolved, including the EU/GB geofencing issue.
You are absolutely right. I bought a DJI Osmo Action a couple of years ago because of the front screen, making it great for vlogging. It was a great camera but I hardly used it because for most of what I needed it for the phone is more convenient and image quality was comparable. So I sold it and bought an Insta360 One X2, now I use this camera a lot and it’s because it adds convenience to shooting your videos.
This is one of the toughest part about getting any camera 2020 and on. The best camera is one that you have on you and i am one who has hundreds dollars invested in a dslr camera gear but never bring it out because i don't to lug around such a huge thing. Now if phone companies are listening, if they made a magnetic camera that can work like the go to....omg!!
It’s whole design was based around “how much more money can we squeeze out of every customer “ . That amongst other things why I changed my mind about buying this. I was anticipating getting this when it was released but changed my mind on the day . I have now convinced myself I do not need this waste of money
DJI went strictly action camera with this because they already have an awesome camera for vlogging in the pocket 2. that’s why this design went a whole different route
Yet everyone says (even dji that) Action 2 is not an action camera 😄😄 Of course if "action" means walking on the street, cycling because this piece of crap will fall immediately. Don't trust these magnets for action... yku can clearly see that ALL the reviewers fucked up the camera for just 2 weeks standard useage... (it's scratched, hit, takes all metal pieces and mount looses + potato jet broke it 5 mins later when attached on his fpv drone)
I just got Pocket 2. I'm still editing my first video that I made with it. I didn't use a phone as a monitor. The only 2 things I don't like are 1) it's tiny screen but the small size is also an advantage here and 2) It overexposes bright small objects. For example, I was filming my dog playing on the grass and it was overexposing my dog's bright hair until I brought Pocket 2 very close to my dog and only then Pocket 2 made a nice balanced footage.
I think you did a great job man. Don’t worry. I have received my Action 2 today. And I will be honest there is some real issues with the product. Overheating is a major issue for flogging and anything that it’s not got airflow. It’s cooking it’s self in 3:30 module only in 4k120. Then there is the time to transfer footage from the memeory to SD card. It’s taking 14+ minutes for 10GB. Frankly this product has some major issues. Fantastic to see you address the “reviews” too from others, so much lies out there right now.
Lets be real...the fact the phone manufacturers make a device with 3 cameras, auto focus..emails, speakers, wifi signal, take a SIM card, electronic sims...the list goes on, and yet for a mere extra $400 you get SO much more PLUS a better dedicated camera. Each device has their place for sure, however the part for me that you pointed out was the audio in the waterproof housing, we left that era years ago.
I have few osmo action cameras, sony a7iii that we used to vlog with, but now when i got iphone 13 pro somehow i am using it more and more for vlogging. So i understand what are you talking about. I will still use my old osmo action for Enduro riding. I dont trust this new locking system when i am on my motorcycle. Another thing is that i cannot swap batteries like on old osmo action. Sometimes i use 3 or 4 batteries on one ride.
I loved the first video and thought it made sense for the same reasons you outlined. You can compare any two things you like and it’s up to everyone else to take away what they want to take away from the comparison. Keep up the quality content!
Your original video gave helpful context and an interesting look at a popular device compared to the Action 2 in image quality (I'm going to assume at default settings with the cropped in mode). I found it helpful! Thanks for the follow up.
I appreciate your perspective and the different angle you chose to take on the review. Anyway, how did you expect the video footage from the action 2 to be better than the iPhone? You already have a GoPro 8, which should be comparable.
Your first vid was spot on for me. I don't own any type of action cam but do have an iPhone so the video was great and made me ask whether or not I need an action cam. Also as you pointed out there are so many videos comparing it to the GoPro10 that another would not be helpful. In fact I'd love to see a comparison of the GoPro10 to the iPhone now!
Regarding using the camera by itself in the water and worrying about it coming loose from impacts: would it be possible to jury-rig a holding system by wrapping something like, say, a strip of gaffer tape around the camera to keep the latches closed? Or a strip up both sides or something? Just spitballing here out of curiosity. Obviously that'd be an extra step to perform each time, so it might not be practical even if it felt secure.
👍🏻 … For me, no need to clarify as I got that from your review and I really appreciate the take. Love having the iPhone as a baseline and not just because i have the 13 pro too. It is a great camera! Doesn’t deter me from this dji as I am looking for this form factor and am also considering insta360 go 2 which probably isn’t as good as this
The obvious use that very few reviews are touching on is its FPV drone usage. This alone sets this camera apart from nearly all others as far as size and portability and mounting options.
I feel comparing it to a phone was brilliant, I was surprised how much better the quality was of the phone. The part about the magnet collecting metal shavings I can totally relate to, I had it happen to some of my magnetic nut drivers, so hard to get those filings out too!
I can't believe you made this video, I thought it was a great review it was straight and to the point. You didn't feel you had to explain yourself when you compared the iPhone to a proper camera. If there are issues with the dji there are issues with it and people should be aware before they buy because it's not a cheap bit of kit. It's certainly fair to compare it with an iPhone.
Honestly I think your comparison to the ip13 while outside the norm is interesting and adds to the information available to us consumers. My wife has a phone with a dead camera. I am considering getting an action camera vs a new phone for her. And this was the perfect comparison. I now know that while the image quality may not be on par with a phone, it is an acceptable solution.
Put simply your previous video made me a subscriber because I appreciated your unique angle and honesty. This is coming from someone that owns multiple DJI products and was looking to buy this one for MTB.
Thank you for your videos. Your first video with comparison to your iPhone was great! Action cameras compete with others in their niche, and as of late, with phone cameras. The thing I hear from others when I pull out an action camera is "I used to use one...but now I just use my phone." Not everyone does extreme sports or vacation vlogging at water destinations, so comparison to a consumer phone that is water resistant is legit. As a creative myself, I've been using my phone for b-roll or quick videos, and so this comparison did what it intended.
Personally, I prefer watching negative thoughts about things I'm interested in, to the "I got it free, so it's fantastic" reviews that are so common on here.
So true, I prefer negative reviews, or more exactly the "I didn't like this or that" because those are the things that could probably annoy me the most when I buy. So I try to find that balance: that's a major issue VS I can live with that.
Nice followup. I think you’re right, it’s hard to find a camera that works well for sports like kite boarding. The combination of every pixel changing in every frame makes it hard to compress the video without it going to mush. The camera really needs 360 degrees of horizon levelling. The lenses need to shed salt water spray, as well as splashes. And the camera mounts are often tilted off the desired axis when a wave hits them. Pretty tough requirements.
I’d like to see an action camera with higher data rates to handle improved image quality. I’m pretty sure there’s head room between 100 Mbs data rate the cameras are using and what the best SD cards can handle.
@@FStoppers Thanks. To be honest though I agree with the way you tried to approach the action 2, as nowdays an action camera is a camera and comparing it with a phone, and for the phone to have a better camera, that's something that we don't expect to see. Keep being and doing you man!
I wish Samsung or Apple would just put their cameras in a square water proof box, and make them action cams. Better in EVERY way. Control it largely through an app on the phone. SD card slot onboard and a power/record button. That's all.
It is an excellent concept and I want it, but... Since I also love stills and this is a neat thing to carry around on a stick at this point in time I would need it to have: - HDR video, HDR photo - 24MP sensor and/or aeast attachable zoom lenses for 24mm 60mm - better fstop than f2.8 -
Your original video made perfect sense. Most ppl that buy these aren't doing extreme sports. Comparing it to what we already all have makes sense The Osmo Action design sucks and most ppl recognize that.
I agree with you 100%. This update was a switch to compete with Insta360, rather than a competitor to the GoPro. I would have easily upgraded from my Action 1, if it was the same form factor. It also leaves us Action 1 owners scratching our heads.... what the hell do we do with this thing?
that's why it is named "action" for action-type activities. every person who has a gopro or any action camera also has a phone, iphone or android phone. so they are very different tool for different situations. so comparing it to a phone is just invalid. If footage quality is what ur aiming for then my mirrorless camera is better than this, so does it mean I don't need this? c'mon...
So Lee, I've been a fan of your channel ... like forever, you're content has always been accurate, factual and reliable. Rare to find on YT. I am looking at buying this camera and have watched most of the better reviews out there and all strikingly similar to one another. Not yours. It is a unique perspective, that we all need to hear, and then to come out the next day with some 'splainin' to do, is big of you. Firstly, so many of this camera's videos are " Run, don't walk ... and buy it!", and after looking at the sample videos, all perfect and color graded.... It's like watching a Hamburger commercial, going and buying one and then saying "This ain't like the one on TV". Borderline deceptive. So the ONE thing I wanted to see was video quality footage, and when you presented the comparison shot (at 1:32) in this video, it told me what I wanted to know. The quality is just so-so. I've owned the original OSMO, the Pocket OSMO, the DJI Action. With the possible exception of the original OSMO, the video quality is generally just ok ... and that is being generous. For the money DJI charges for these cameras, they should work better, have better images and video. So thank you for pointing this out... I'll keep looking
Hi Lee. From one perspective, you can't really use the magnets in the water, because the magnetic base half with the sd card is not waterproof, so long before the magnets fail the water would destroy the camera. I believe it's only for use on dry land so excellent update. Thanks so much for making this video as it shows how important it is to make sure that created content does not send an unintended message as it's so difficult sometimes to predict how people react.
@@FStoppers agreed, but you need the waterproof case of you use the base with card. I suppose you could just use the camera with GoPro clip base and that would likely fall apart in a high speed fall on the water unless you have a modified clip. If they added a lanyard clip to the camera at least if it falls off you won't loose it
I have an iPhone 12 Pro and can attest to how high the quality is. All great content has 'b-roll' and compelling content. I primarily bought this camera for that purpose. The size is such that the DJI is a better tool for creative content. The challenge now will be to combine both into a seamless workflow. That's TBD.
Thanks for the review. The most important question to me - For everyone who has an action camera what older models are good candidates to be replaced by this one and for spending $600 plus on another camera. Looking at the DJI site it looks like it would be $1,000 to get all the accessories that would make this fun.
just received the action 2 yesterday and would say the previous review is legit and honest. my initial points: the magnetic mount is still new and lots of accessories are not available atm. the necklace mount does not work for my sport (mtb), video still shakes like hell and im currently looking for another mounting point. it has the option to shoot raw photos, video has dcinelike options too, but no one has actually compared the differences between these settings. mimo app apparently has lots of issues with this camera and hopefully they will update and improve the camera and the app.
I was wondering how this would work for us folks who actually want to do pov stuff. Have you tried connecting it to the GoPro chest mount with the included thing? Does it feel like the second module is bound to break loose while connected? So many questions i have. I ordered one and it should be here next week but my curiosity is killing me.
honest and good review - I'm not going to buy this camera - so I saved 500 dollars - DJI Osmo action 1 and gimbal attached to it and you obtain the same result about stabilization as the action2. we wanted and wished the same shape as the Osmo 1 but with the needed improvement because this kind of Osmo 2 looks like a prototype shape more similar to a toy than to an action camera.
It's all good! Just like any other products, there's just a paticular market for the Action 2. It definitely serves its own purpose and for me, it's terrific.
Thank you for being brave enough to admit that you might have been a bit harsh. Good and honest review, but I’m still on the fence 😂😂 I love the look of it and really want one but I’m putting serious thought into it now after watching both of your reviews. I’m not planning on going in the water with it but would like to film my friends during their open mic nights, there’s always lots of booze and I’d rather they spilt their beer on this rather than my phone! Take care and once again thanks for your honesty.
I think your review was fine, Lee. Did I think the iPhone was a practical comparison for action cam users specifically? Not particularly, but I got the point. The other "reviews" really didn't give an honest appraisal. I didn't solely decide to not buy the camera because of your review, but it did affirm my initial perception of the design. I support DJI, this camera just isn't practical for most high intensity action users. Not just water sports either. It might be a cool tool to have on hand if it is in the budget, but strictly as an action cam, the GoPro is, on balance, the superior choice, even with a few things on the Action 2 winning out.
The modular design with one part not being water proof introduces a big design flaw from the get go. Additionally the proprietary mount is a non starter. The Insta 360 had the mount system down with a simple 1/4 20 thread. Perfect. It goes on everything. GoPro mounts were designed for lighter cameras in their past, the plastic tabs and friction mounts on the now larger cameras fail, at least for me on my Mtb. Looking at the ball mount adapter for this DJI, this piece is not going to last long, it’s a consumable and it’s proprietary, when they stop making this design, you’re gonna be out of luck, my guess is small rig or someone will make a cage with a 1/4 20 on it. GoPros tend to be unreliable, ymmv, overheating, freeze, battery pulls etc. the GoPro max I had, was actually quite good, the 9 was awful. What you need in a action camera is waterproof, solid mounting points, decent audio, simple on off - easy to reach, replaceable lenses, and 99 percent reliable; The device will turn on and off when activated, no overheating, no fail when writing to cards, and no freezing. Simply an action camera it has to work, second chances are not an option. The camera image quality can’t be awful but it does not need to compete with an Arri Alexa. If it’s on par with, which this is, with others in the market it’s in the realm of good enough. The video quality is less important than story your going to edit from it. The more computational imaging the greater the size, computing power and battery drain, so although the iphone gives a better image it has a different platform to produce that and with a different use intent. Try starting your video with the phone on your helmet. Or reaching over on the surf board. We need to step back form the 2 4 6 8 k wars and megapixels to achieve greater reliability, battery conservation, record times and heat in these devices for sure. I really like there is memory embedded in the camera, it’s a bummer that its limited, but its probably done so because the record time and storage capacity match up. It’s also a bummer that you can’t use the usb-c connection to add an external mic. They are opting for Bluetooth connectivity only with their new mic system. The duo screen and mic package plus accessories is pushing this to over 1k piece of kit. Think about that. All things considered, My purchase would be a insta360 x2 with lens guards and their replacement insurance. It does everything this does and more while not being restricted by an inefficient modular design, limited water proof storage, mic access and limited mounting options.
I saw that video and I like it! It's a unique comparison! The iPhone 13Pro may be in a league of its own, but at the end of the vid, I had a deeper appreciation for the Action 2! Phone cameras may be great but I saw the instances where action cams can do better!
Phone-action cam comparisons, like phone-camera comparisons, are definitely relevant, but form factor is always the most important factor, so mount them both under, on, in cars (wheels, engines etc.), tractors, combines, planes, helicopters, etc., and see how image quality suddenly becomes secondary, ironically enough :) Just a general comment. I'm sticking with the original Action. The new one's image quality seems inferior, but we'll have to see the reviews ;)
think when watching at your comparison dji with ip13 i think that was harsh..but then when you explain this video, found out that you are sincere...definitely will follow and subscribe your channel..keep the honest review...thumbs up........
The action 2 can be purchased for $399.00 the Iphone 13 may be 1000. However the camera section of the IPhone doesn't account for the whole cost of the phone . Maybe 1 third of the price of the phone.
I find the review comparing with iPhone 13 Max Pro was new, good insight "for those who own iPhone 13 Max Pro". For me I found the information on the metal sand sticking on the magnetic clip part was good info also.
No defense needed dude. I record in 1-2 hour segments for 8 hours straight, so without a charging port and card slot I can't use this camera. Thanks for pointing that out. Too bad 'cuz I love the Action 1 and would probably have upgraded for the small size and light weight. If they come up with a 1/2" mini-module that has a charging port and a card slot, I'm back in.
Good points in regards to the iPhone comparison. I can see your argument. But would like to see more of test of the magnetic latch than an opinion. Just cause its like stating it as fact to a viewer. Would mounting it on a stand, and lets say taking a high pressure hose to the latch to see if it gets loose? As a non water sports person I cant see how water can get it unlatched without counter force on the opposite side like when using your fingers. But as a mountain biker it looks solid to me. Worth a mention to try out if you're inclined. Thanks for the review.
It's like a magnetic version of the GoPro Hero Session, only flatter. But obviously this gadget is cool for specialized usage. Pretty hopeful that the Osmo Action 3 would be way better.
I thought ur review was one of the more honest reviews compared to others on RUclips this is a different camera the GoPro. It’s more like the instago 2
I thought that comparing the Action 2 to the smartphone was really sensible. The action camera target market isn't people that own action cameras, it's people that don't own them. Most users find out the hard way that their lives don't necessitate an action cam, and so they never buy a second action camera. People who are avid action cam users already know what they want.
There is also lots of people that are in between, who do some action sports MTB & biking, snowboarding, etc but not in an extreme way, do some traveling videos, make videos of their kids while in action and don't want to have a huge action cam setup also have hands free. That's where the action 2 fits perfectly.
Why a follow up video? I didn't know that a review from one individuals experience has to please everybody now. If that's the case then what's the point of a review?
Thanks for this video! I didn't watch your initial video, but oh boy I'm impressed with the HDR video made on iPhone 13 at 0:16 while Action 2 footage is waaay less attractive. I wish next version will offer an HDR video and also will recognize a human's face and make it exposed correctly.
I bought the DJI Action 2 two weeks ago. It is a poor camera. I was disappointed for two main reasons. First, the videos shot on it are poor. Second, the battery life is so bad it did not last for 20 minutes. I put it on the windshield of my car to film the views when driving. But when I saw the videos, I just didn't want to post them on social media.
A thousand dollar ‘camera’ on an iPhone? What😂😂😂 who in the world said that? The phone’s a thousand because of the SPECIFICATIONS INSIDE THE PHONE, not JUST the camera
@@FStoppers An argument can be made that they are intertwined. The hardware that makes it so expensive like the Apple Silicon are what make a lot of camera features possible. Ditto a lot of the Photos app features such as the machine learning to do person, location and object detection. So it’s not cut and dry. Everything (hardware, software, camera) is really intertwined on the iPhone in a way that simply doesn’t exist on a standalone camera. Imagine what more advanced camera hardware (larger sensor, better lenses, etc.) could do with the processing power and software the iPhone is capable of. Would be pretty incredible.
Actually I wanted to hate this camera and did. I got it for 299$ flash sale on prime days. I have been using it and finding it much easier to use than my osmo action. I am slowly finding that it is becoming my favorite camera. What is great is you can be vlogging and then just put it in your pocket and it is no big deal. Have not had any overheating issues at all either. Now with steady mode it give a great crop for vlogging. When I get healed up I plan to get into it more but so far I am not regretting this purchase and this from someone who hated this camera from the get go.
Your original video was very helpful. Why would I buy the DJI action 2 when my cameraphone is better. Please do a review on the Pixel 6 and give it hell for not having 25fps - making it useless for post work in PAL countries.
Man I am tired of sponsored reviews and Ad reviews. All the video guys constantly hype stuff and never even touch on the real problems. Action cams freezing, crashing, lost files, etc. They just hype to be well paid by brands. Obviously... If you cheeck out forums, you get a better feel for the gear or even youtube comments. Stand by your thoughts, your review makes sense and it creates more loyal followers. Last couple days was Ronin, A74, Action 2 launch hype season and the creators are becoming hype clowns. That is sad.
Thanks for sharing I don't think it will be a popular camera. You can instantly see it's limitations no matter how much you paper over the cracks. We see it now in all walks of life.....marketing teams not understanding their market. Not long back the product did the selling, now it's the biggest advert wins. I think Sony had the best blogging / action camera with the X3000, I can't understand why other manufacturers didn't pick up on the concept and improve on it. Keep up the good work buddy 👍
What's your take on the Controversy Of the rust shooting in New Mexico . I think all 3 are guilty of not checking the gun I also feel very very bad for her family
I don't think you can blame an actor who was handed what they believe to be a "toy" gun by an expert gun handler. The average person probably can't even tell the difference between a blank and a live round.
If you can't tell the difference between a blank and a live round you should never put your hand on a gun. A blank has no bullet. If you are handed a gun you and only you are responsible for it while it's in your hand.
It's most certainly not the actor's job to check the gun. If anything, the blame should go first to the armorer, who is the person responsible for gun safety on these sets. But this time, apparently what happened was that the assistant director was the one who grabbed the gun from the props table, announced that it was "cold" (meaning that it's safe), and handed it to the actor. There are also claims that there were previously complaints about gun safety on the set prior to the accident too. So it seems to me the armorer should have been in charge of clearing the guns, the director should have been empowering the armorer to make those calls and the director should have properly responded to safety concerns. I certainly wouldn't blame the DP or the actor though.
@@tommyadams1897 Odds are, similarly to what happened to Brandon Lee in The Crow, what probably happened was that an actor was given a gun (loaded with blanks) and there was some sort of blockage in the barrel. Sure, an actor could check that the top rounds in the magazine or whatever are blanks, but really the weapons handler/armorer should be the one ensuring and taking responsibility for the safety of the weapons, making sure that the barrel is clear, and so on.
@@FStoppers everyone who handles the weapon checks it even actors they do it every day on scene. Everyone knew it was a real gun they shot it that morning with live ammo plinking . This is 2021 this should've never happened . I do greatly respect you commenting on this
DJI Action 2 will be an epic failure! Too expensive. Too costly. Too impractical for travel vlogging. Yes there must be some huge advantages for some serious action shots. But they will think again after losing Action 2 several times.
The only thing I will add is that there are a small handful of phones that will record as good or better, and also there will be a small % of people (world wide) that can afford those phones. So then, yes, hands down the Dji will win :)
Seems to me the tiny form factor of this camera makes it MOST ideal for headband use, even more so than GoPro.
Just asked the same question. I bet loads of reviewers have neglected this. First thing I did when I got it.
Long, long overdue GoPro Session 5 replacement!
For RC plane and quadcopter FPV filming, the 56g and Rock-Steady are prime attractions.
But I'm not rushing out to buy one until the temperature issues are resolved, including the EU/GB geofencing issue.
the one thing DJi tauth us is that they can release firmware updates quick to resolve issue in dji products
It'll be fine if you're flying right? The go 2 overheats too, but if you're flying i dont' get any issue when its moving.
It doesn’t overheat when flying, it doesnt even get warm.
Did you try adjusting the EV to compensate and make the image brighter? Have firmware updates solved any issues?
Did you change the video compression setting to shoot in h264 rather than hevc?
I'm doing action... and I think this camera is useless for action xD. It's more like lifestyle toy for action in park with your dog LOL :P.
I appreciate your honesty in this video and the original review. Your videos always have integrity. Keep it up!
I just used that blue/orange underwater housing from Amazon on my iPhone 12 in Hawaii and it worked flawlessly.
I 100% with your view Lee. Having to use an under water housing to gain SD card is a total non starter for me
Honestly I think your comparison to the ip13 while outside the norm is interesting and adds to the information available to us consumers.
Danny Black has a honest review of DJI Action 2 comparing it to the GoPro 10
Too many people are nitpicking too much now-a-days on reviews. You do you. Keep up to good work.
your review was the only one I needed to hear!!
Your review was a breath of fresh air Lee, the sort of video that still makes Fstoppers worth subscribing to. Keep it up.
Honest review is hard to find nowadays. So kudo to you
Personally, I prefer watching negative thoughts about things I'm interested in, to the "I got it free, so it's fantastic" reviews that are so common on here.
From what I saw online, I believe that the dji osmo action 1 is better than the action 2 in video quality. What is your opinion on this?
No clue, never used it.
@@FStoppers Thanks. To be honest though I agree with the way you tried to approach the action 2, as nowdays an action camera is a camera and comparing it with a phone, and for the phone to have a better camera, that's something that we don't expect to see. Keep being and doing you man!
I’m not sure what’s wrong with DJI and they’re waterproof housings they also had a problem with the pocket two housing leaking
I wish Samsung or Apple would just put their cameras in a square water proof box, and make them action cams. Better in EVERY way. Control it largely through an app on the phone. SD card slot onboard and a power/record button. That's all.
It is an excellent concept and I want it, but...
Since I also love stills and this is a neat thing to carry around on a stick at this point in time I would need it to have:
- HDR video, HDR photo
- 24MP sensor and/or aeast attachable zoom lenses for 24mm 60mm
- better fstop than f2.8
-
Your original video made perfect sense. Most ppl that buy these aren't doing extreme sports. Comparing it to what we already all have makes sense
The Osmo Action design sucks and most ppl recognize that.
I agree with you 100%. This update was a switch to compete with Insta360, rather than a competitor to the GoPro. I would have easily upgraded from my Action 1, if it was the same form factor. It also leaves us Action 1 owners scratching our heads.... what the hell do we do with this thing?
I have the iPhone 11 Pro and your video made me think twice about my need for this camera. I cancelled my order with DJI. Thank you!
that's why it is named "action" for action-type activities. every person who has a gopro or any action camera also has a phone, iphone or android phone. so they are very different tool for different situations. so comparing it to a phone is just invalid.
The camera and the base both have magnetic bottoms.
The original Osmo Action is better in every way than this new one, and half the price.
The heating problem is very serious one! I'd say the action 2 has some serious issues and I think hero 10 still a better choice I returned it anyway!
You made the point as to why APPLE SHOULD SELL AN ACTION CAM they would slay the competition
just received the action 2 yesterday and would say the previous review is legit and honest. my initial points: the magnetic mount is still new and lots of accessories are not available atm. the necklace mount does not work for my sport (mtb), video still shakes like hell and im currently looking for another mounting point. it has the option to shoot raw photos, video has dcinelike options too, but no one has actually compared the differences between these settings. mimo app apparently has lots of issues with this camera and hopefully they will update and improve the camera and the app.
Lots of people saying it got over heating problems
Thank you for being brave enough to admit that you might have been a bit harsh. Good and honest review, but I’m still on the fence 😂😂 I love the look of it and really want one but I’m putting serious thought into it now after watching both of your reviews. I’m not planning on going in the water with it but would like to film my friends during their open mic nights, there’s always lots of booze and I’d rather they spilt their beer on this rather than my phone! Take care and once again thanks for your honesty.
I think this camera is great for vloggers. U can strap it to ur shirt or hat and just record a tone of broll
Fair comparison with the phone. Action 2, not an action camera
The Action 2 is pretty bad. You were right. Its a major fail for DJI. The Hero 10 blows this away.
Gen 2 of this system is gonna be insane
your first video was so spot on that this one is really not necessary...
I think I'll wait for the GoPro Hero 10 Session. With a replaceable lens, touch screen, built-in GP mount, BT remote, and MicroSD.
Ur review was the only honest one! I get mine on Saturday 💯
The Action 2 is $500? I'll pass.
Lee, I thought your DJI Action 2/iPhone13 review was very fair. Good points, too.
wow. thanks for being here for us!!!
Crystal clear. Totally agree with your review.
You are right. I'm going to upgrade my phone instead.
I thought ur review was one of the more honest reviews compared to others on RUclips this is a different camera the GoPro. It’s more like the instago 2
I think it should compare to Go2.. its just a lil heavier and video and audio might be better enough..
Красавчик. Нормальный пацан, сказал, что именно думает на свой взгляд. Нормально.
I appreciated the honesty without the googoo gaga over the top gushing.
Exactly, I've been having this debate for years with stupid RUclips commentors.
No need to justify...
I loved your review, people are just salty
Great review, DJI fanboys just don't want to admit this is a shocker and Gopro 10 has left DJI in the dust in action cams!
You knew it will be controversial and prepared this follow up video to get more content. Smart.
I do greatly respect you commenting on this
Critical honest reviews are good otherwise everyone just follows whatever is trending or being promoted on Instagram etc. #keepitreal
Ha... expecting a timeout....? hope you already received the Mavic 3.....!
I can see the iphone 13 over sharpens though. It's nicer to have the option to sharpen in post.
