I went to the New York event and I was disappointed that the leaks occurred the day before the event. But I was glad I knew what they would have so I could manage my expectations. Initially I did not purchase anything in the last two sales they had because I wanted to wait in hopes that they would release more outfits for the historical dolls. I enjoyed the event itself as I got to meet some other doll collectors. I purchased the three team USA outfits and Rebecca sabbath set also because of AG takes overs video. I am glad I got it. I don't do these events often but they can be fun.
That sounds like a great haul! I'm glad you had a fun time in New York! Totally hear you about managing expectations- I will have to do better about that next time.
So sorry of your disappointment, I'd have felt the same way from what you said. Even the goody bag looked disappointing with the Truly Me outfit which I'm sure most of you had multiples of because the invitees spent a lot of money over the years. I like the shoes though. Your Addy is really nice. I'm glad I ordered Kirsten's b"day outfit the second day it came out and received it a few days later I am impatient so I would have been peeved if it was back ordered. I guess some people didn't think the items would sell out so fast. I am glad you were honest and didn't sugar coat the event.
Thank you so much for your empathy ❤️ and thank you for the compliment regarding Addy, I am just becoming so obsessed with her 💖 glad you got Kirsten's birthday outfit, I hope they come out with more of those soon!
You have a beautiful Addy Walker. She definitely reminds me of when I had a PC Addy in 1994. I have a Beforever Addy. I purchased her original meet outfit when AG put it on sale. I also purchased AG"s version of Addy's birthday outfit. I did not go to the event.
@@SuperButterfly217 thank you so much 💖 I do appreciate how true to form they made these special edition dolls. Beforever Addy is also beautiful! I bet your doll looks beautiful in the birthday outfit 😍
I went and honestly what you expressed is what everyone is saying, and they wondered why they had an event. I had a great time though and was appreciative that AG sponsored such an event. Everyone was kind and the event give away was lovely and a surprise. They did have one Kirsten birthday set that was still there when I left. I purchased things that was on my list, actually some of the things at you purchased. One item I had to call AG to return. Rebecca's holiday dress. The ribbon on the dress was a wreck and it is a main visual on the dress. It was full of tiny wrinkles, starched in so there was really no repair there and at full price it needs to go back so they can check that batch. There is not a problem to return or have an exchange so that worked ok, a little disappointment there but it will work out in the end. It was a great time to buy a doll and some accessories. All in all for me I had no complaints.
I'm glad to hear you had a great time! Bummer about Rebecca's dress- hoping you can get that exchanged because it's such a beautiful outfit! Also, the giveaway was definitely a nice add-on, you are so right!
I'm sorry it was a let-down. I appreciate your intent to minimize the number of packages AG sends out by buying several things in the store all at once and am sorry it didn't work out that way.
Omg!!! So sorry you didn't have a better selection on the dolls. I went to the DC store and bought Kirsten. They had a decent selection then but that was about 2 weeks ago. Got to talk to 2 fellow collectors.....which is always great! So glad you got Addy!!
Your Addy doll is gorgeous. I’m sorry you had a disappointing experience at this event. I have never been to one of these as I live in Canada but I would agree that there should have been fully stocked shelves with all the characters and newest outfits. Glad you got some cute outfits anyway. Rebecca’s accessories are adorable. Love the hat😄
Rebecca's accessories were such a win for me! They felt so much higher quality than I expected. And thank you for the compliments towards my Addy- I can't stop looking at her sweet face! 💕
Talk about picked over, we went to the DC event too, and I was looking forward to getting #127, but there were only 2 in the whole store and her eyes were so terrible. Like glaringly bad. I wasn’t going to get Lila b/c of the price increase, but my daughter wanted her. Again, the eyes- one was looking left and the other right. It was so hard to find an ok one. Turns out we didn’t. Her hair was pretty bad out of the hairnet. I was thinking of returning her immediately, but the personal shopper said we have 90 days to return her if we are not satisfied. Take her home and try curling her hair. My daughter did manage to get her hair ok, but when I took a pic of her, I saw that one of her eyes is wonky. Ugh. The lighting in the store was not the best, and I thought her eyes were ok. And she costs so much! Not happy. And I know- I saw the NYC Store treats, and I was like, whoa- why so different? And the store was so hot; it’s like they shut off the air. And yes, such a let down that there were no new dolls or historical items. I’m like, why’d they have this event? My daughter was also looking for the Kaya displays, and was so disappointed that they weren’t any Kaya’s in the store. Despite all the negative stuff I said, we did have fun and would go again. I just hope the release is bigger next time. Thank you for uploading. I hope your move goes well.
I'm so sorry you couldn't find a 127 and that your Lila ended up wonky 😕 that is so frustrating. They really did not plan as well as they should have to make sure everything was well stocked for the event. I'm happy to hear that despite that, you and your daughter had a good time together. I feel the same way, I loved talking to the collectors and the overall vibe, just disappointed at the execution.
I was expecting something more, too! Unfortunately, I couldn't go since my nearest store is 4 hours away. I love your Addy! I just wish the rereleased had the soft brown eyelashes instead of the Standard black ones. Maybe it's my nostalgia talking though.
I drove the 2.5 hours to the Charlotte store (which was in the morning before the store opened) so there wasn't picked over sections like you are describing. Just the standard limited stock of this tiny store. I agree with many of your points about the event. The only reason I wasn't as disappointed is because I went to the Lila event in October where it was also advertised as "first access," but then Lila released before the event. That event should have been advertised as a Lila brunch because the focus was on the lackluster food at the bistro, not on Lila. I could see people buying Lila while I was held at the bistro table. And that event was $50 per person!!! The saving grace for me was that this shopping event was only $10 per reservation so I got myself and two friends in for $10. The release was lackluster and if we had known that was all it was, we would have saved the drive. I think you are right: I won't be going next time unless there is an official hint about a new doll being released.
I think having the events in the morning is key- that is such a good point! And wow I hadn't realized all of that about Lila's release- big yikes! Glad you were able to spend some time with your friends though 💖 the lengths we go to in order to fuel our AG needs!! 😭
I’m honestly surprised that they didn’t do actual Olympic outfits, like the ones from the last Summer and Winter Olympics. Even if it was the same gymnastics, swimming, volleyball, etc outfits as the last one. Was just kinda like “oh…that’s it?”
Sorry to hear the event was disappointing! I tried to go to my local one, but couldn't due to weather conditions. In the end I don't feel like I missed out on too much. I thought there would be significantly more new product available....the Truly Me outfits aren't up my alley personally. If they're going to do an event like this, I feel it should be for a huge release. And to hear the store was picked over by the time the PAYING Berry members got there puts a bad taste in my mouth. Not very exclusive if the items have been out all day and are, as you said, already picked over. There have been leaks for potential items coming, such as home decor and human scaled clothing and accessories. I thought those would be at the event and that's why I wanted to go. But that was not the case lol. I would still like the opportunity to go to an event but hopefully the next time they do one, it's planned better and has more product!
I agree, I hope the next time they put together an event it is executed better! I would love to go to an event for a bigger release- I think that would just create a much more fun environment, and make people more excited!
I think people got their hopes up and fed into each others expectations to the point where people went to the events expecting the moon. I heard that Orlando didn't get the red white and blue outfits in time and the fact that the DC store was low on stock is disappointing and have no excuse. As for the rest of the issues, they're probably a result of hoping for too much. We took the train into NYC and had a great time. The atmosphere was fun, the crowd seemed happy. The store was well stocked and got restocked throughout the event. The goodie bag was worth the trip and the value offset the reservation and the train rides. Not to mention the extra 50 reward points, 3x the points and a $50 e-certificate for spending more than $250. Win-win-win!!
I'm glad you had a great time! I agree that the point increases were great. I had been debating between going to the NYC and DC store for the event. I ended up choosing the DC store because I like the vibes there more (I don't like that the new NYC store basically puts the historical in a windowless cramped basement!), but it sounds like I made the wrong choice!
Thanks for warning us that this was going to be a negative video. I didn’t watch it. I don’t like to hear negative when it comes to dolls; this is my one place to escape unhappy, entitled people.
I was also at the DC event. I legit came just to get a Kirsten birthday outfit and hoping to see either more historical stuff or even a new princess release. I too was let down. I ended up just getting a Julie outfit for the 3x points, and while I did enjoy meeting other collectors, it was very underwhelming..
It sounds like DC dropped the ball. I’ve heard nothing but great reviews about the Dallas store. Sad they raise the prices. I’m happy for American girl too, they been selling out of outfits and dolls. That can only be good for the doll Community.
Yeah it looks the the other stores (I've seen NYC, Charlotte, and Dallas) all had really great and prepared set-ups. I agree that selling out is a great sign! Hoping Mattel sees the consumer excitement for the historicals especially

Awww, thank you 💖 she is such a beautiful doll. So glad they re-released her!
Loved the red, white, and blue outfits! Especially the one with the white skirt.
The skirt is definitely cute! It's a piece that's great for mix and match.
