Hi Lots of good ideas! So sad to hear of your child's passing. My closest family has all passed, as well as older close friends - so its going to be a big reunion in heaven! One other idea: those in North Carolina and other places affected by the two recent hurricanes are not going to be having such a good Christmas. So supporting Samaritan's Purse or getting in touch with locals there can make a huge difference. After the wildfire in California in November, I was so grateful for gifts of warm clothing and warm socks!!! The Lord Jesus bless you both, we have much to be Thankful for! In His Love, JJ & Service Dog Ruthie😊🐕‍🦺✝️🙏💕

Wise video for this time of year. Very sorry learning about the absence of your loved one. My heart goes out to you. Glad to hear of the way you bless others for and with her. Very good ideas that you shared. Thank you Jonathan and Kylene. My most memorable gift I received was a hamburger, fries and drink. Back when I was younger after a long day of providing service canning tomatoes, the group I carpooled with stopped at McDonalds. They all jumped out and asked if I wanted anything. I said no thanks. (I did not have any money, I sent almost all the money I made back to my family who needed it. I just got a new job.) I was so exhausted and hungry. My friend came back with a bag and handed it to me with a smile. I also smiled and devoured it. Happy trails!

A woman I work with is always cold. She has a heater under her desk and she often wears fuzzy earmuffs at work (and not just in winter!). I bought two pieces of fleece and made her a full size tie blanket. No sewing, just cutting with scissors and tying knots. Hopefully she will like the blanket as her Christmas present! 🎁🎄🎁

Such great wisdom for this time of year! All the marketing and gift giving, while done with good intentions, can quickly take away from the true "reason for the season". So sorry to hear of the loss of your daughter. My heart breaks for you all. I pray God will continue to bring you comfort as you journey through grief and peace knowing she is with the Lord. Sending hugs.

You are wonderful people. I am so sorry that you have lost a child.
I am an older, Jewish woman. As such, Christmas isn’t a part of our lives. But we do give a Christmas gift to every neighbor on our street. It’s an important holiday for the majority of the country. We live in a 55+ community and are the only Jewish couple here. We all exchange a small gift, usually cookies or candy that is home made.
We do have grandchildren, and we do give them a gift for each night of Chanukah. When I was a kid, we got a few coins to use to play dreidel each night.
My grandchildren’s mother is not Jewish. This has made it harder to keep things as simple as I would like. However, I do go to thrift stores a lot, and take advantage of half off clothing sales. And we do get them each one thing they really want. So the little ones do get one gift each for the full 8 nights, but none are elaborate. They get chocolate coins to play dreidel.
We do give a substantial gift to our synagogue at the end of the year. That’s a priority, and the kids understand that. Those funds get used in the community, and I feel good about that, as I see the good they do.
I appreciate all of your videos and advice. I started prepping a couple of years ago, and you have both been very helpful.

Thank you for these great ideas! :) we’re giving USB rechargeable light bulbs this year :) we have several and have used them a LOT this year (both in power outages and in everyday use! 😅 we have rechargeable lanterns but these are just a lightbulb with a hook, so they’re not heavy or bulky and can go anywhere :) the last time we lost power, we put a couple of them on the fixture above our table and we were able to play games and read without much life adaptation necessary :) my favorite part was that it’s up off the table and there is no flame to worry about :)
I’m so very sorry for your loss. Heartfelt Prayers for you and your family….especially as you navigate the horrible firsts this holiday season 💔

I love thrift stores! Money has been tight more often than or not, and my (now-grown) kids are used to getting secondhand gifts. We all like books, DVD's, and various collectibles, and we can get more for our money by buying used. Same goes with emergency supplies: wheeled duffle bags, wool blankets, mess kits, cast iron pans. "Used" isn't necessarily junk.

The most meaningful gift received is: Unconditional Love and Time. A gift for your viewers to consider. Is Time, A gift certificate from the giver for 1 full day, or a half day of Time. The time can be used to help the recipient with household chores, etc.. or just a day of companionship over lunch. Our deepest sympathy for the loss of your beautiful child. What would one give for one more day spent with a beloved family member. Consider the gift of, Your Time, Your Companionship, Your personal physical help, for they are all a reflection of your Love. ❤️ 🙏🏼

Back when I used to teach Confirmation classes, and it was getting close to the holidays, I would do an exercise with the students. I would ask them to think about the best present they ever received and the best present they've ever given. Thinking about the best one received, but they tended to struggle with the best one they had given. We would go around the room, and I was last. The best present I ever received was a card from my youngest daughter telling me that instead of buying me a present, she donated money for a poor family to receive a farm animal. The best present given needs a little backstory. In December 2006 my wife was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer (she's still with me). We were living in Madison, WI and there were direct flights from their to Dallas, TX where youngest daughter was living. We hatched a plan to have her fly to Madison for a long Mother's Day weekend, totally surprising my wife. The day came and the taxi with my daughter showed up. As she started walking to the front door, I opened it, and my wife asked why, and I said, "Here's your Mother's Day present." Obviously there were tears.
I always wowed the class with these stories.

I personally have had a very long year, My sister passed Jan 16th this year and I nearly lost my Mother a couple of months ago. My favorite memory is when my sister crocheted an Owl wall hanging for me. She did it in my favorite color, I have it hanging in my kitchen. I try not to value things but that little Owl is a treasure. Happy Thanksgiving and God Bless You.

The Christmas after our big 1989 earthquake my family decided to have a preparedness themed gift giving. We gave everyone a First Aid kit, one of my brothers gave everyone cool durable flashlights, someone gave everyone a hand crank dynamo powered radio (that thing lasted over 30 years and we only replaced it because none connectors for charging phones, etc with crank fit anything people have today (but it’s now being repurposed by a neighbor who was looking for a simple am/fm radio to listen to in the afternoons). When I was a kid we used to help my Mom make baskets of Christmas cookies for the all the neighbors.

As each of our neices and nephew got married we'd start a new Christmas gift tradition with them. We give each family 6-12 or the #10 cans of food storage basics from the Home Storage Center along with one of the super large containers (from Costco) of Stephens Hot Chocolate mix. Then we "sneak" in a prepper item or two. Over the years it's been items like Sawyer water filters for when they go "camping". Solar rechargeable lanterns for when they go "camping". Indoor safe butane stoves they can take "camping"....lots of things in the name of "camping". This year we have already purchased and wrapped Fire Blankets for each family.

I was joking to my sister about everyone getting a 20# of rice....lol

Most meaningful gift? I was working for a horrible energy supplier and had to coordinate with all of the local providers of emergency heat sources. It was a high-stress duty, because I was dealing with government bureaucracies and angry or frightened clients. I was also in the midst of a very nasty divorce while living in what was little more than an oversized laundry room with bare lightbulbs and cracked windows. One afternoon, a low-income customer walked in with a small bucket that she'd filled with some fresh fruit and bits of candy just to thank me for helping with her heat application. This woman didn't have a pot to you-know-what, but she took the time to make the only gift I'd get that year. I was so speechless that I didn't think to get her name, and I'm not even sure I thanked her properly. I still have that bucket, although it's a bit worse for wear, and I think of her kindness every time I use it.
