Fixed side vent and center left vent tabs today. Used car came that way. Thanks for the removal tips however I did have to use super glue to secure the back piece to the tab in both instances. Nice to have them functional now!
Glad it helped. I had to use the glue on the mercedes, but it also work, so be it) lol
Also, there is a tiny metal piece that has a bulge in the middle. That metal piece must be placed inside the vent piece which is used to control the position of the vent. Place it with the bulge pointing in the direction of the vent grill over which the vent control piece will be placed. The bulge on the metal piece makes the vent control piece to slide easier on the vent grill when you are controlling the air direction.

You essentially use the hook tool to pull the backing piece flat up against the back of the slat then slide the tab on using the hook to hold the back. keep some pull force with hook then push the tab in and it will click.

All of them broke on my 528i wasnt even aggressive on it. Ill just point it up and snap broke. Cmon bmw expect better quality
All of my BMW's have that kind of problem, thay usually pop out because the structure of the knob itself, you can use super glue after all, but i wouldn't. Be more gentle with tham))👍🏻

It definitely easy to replace the whole piece, but yeah, that small knob is kind the same way...
@@Makhnovets well the price diff wasn't spectacular. But I just used the wrong keywords when searching for the knob being I found zero results.
JulioAbel90 Say how much was the “whole vent” ? I found a 4pcs air vent outlet tab clip for bmw on ebay for $22 free shipping usually 1 piece goes for $11 beats getting “oem” for such small item

I know the BMW is an ass-hole company, but it also apply on previous owners, not all of the people have same way of taking care of their stuff, and specially something fragile as BMW. One think that I love about those kind of fixes, that for me it's easy to repair or restore, and that's why I keep buying those cars, but in terms how fragile components that manufacturer use it is absurd!
I have a 2011 E90. Maybe I was lucky ... Without disassembling, I aligned the spikey piece from the front using tweezers and used a metal hook to hold it while I clicked in the tab on the front. ruclips.net/video/Qyd-h8GitiA/видео.html
I'm not saying I'm did the right way, but i did the way it works for me. I knew there way to use that angled piece of wire, but it is what it is)😉
You were really lucky. I tried this and pushed the spikey piece off the wings and it fell inside the ac hole when i was tryin to fish it out... :( now i gotta wait and order a little frickin pry tool b4 i can turn my ac on. im too scared its caught in something in there. :I

It's true, that you can use that hook that comes with the replacement part. I couldn't for the reason that two parts didnt engage properly when you press them together, on other hand sometimes you still need to take a part the setup as the wins are dislocated or some sort...
Or just but a Venttab and save urself all this useless extra labor

It’s made in china, sold in US.
That country depends on china products. The same piece from dealer will cost you $100! If you can make up a difference in price, I will buy only real stuff or one made in USA🇺🇸 !
